Fishing experiments were carried out in Ishikari Bay, Hokkaido using a bottom gillnet with eight different mesh sizes to estimate the mesh selectivity for pointhead flounder Cleisthenes pinetorum. A total of 957 pointhead flounder were caught. The SELECT analysis with maximum likelihood method was used to fit the different functional models, the normal, lognormal, and bi-normal model. The catch data except for entangling catch was used for calculation. The bi-normal model was found to fit the data best. For the selectivity curve on the bi-normal model, the relative length (the ratio of fish length to mesh size) with the maximum efficiency was obtained as 1.87.

アイゴの海藻摂食に及ぼす振動流の影響を回流水槽で調べた。尾叉長 27 cm のアイゴは食欲の増加に伴い,より強い振動流の中でアラメ・カジメをより多く摂食したが,食欲旺盛な時期でもその摂食は流速振幅 1.1 m/s で半減し,1.5 m/s 程で停止した。この摂食限界はより大型の個体でもあまり増加しないことが体長の異なる個体の遊泳速度から示唆された。これらの結果を本州中部太平洋沿岸で予測される波動流速に当てはめてみると,アイゴの海藻摂食が活発化すると,波動流によって制限される可能性は極めて低いことが示唆された。

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) ‰oats are used abundantly for the ‰oats of oyster farming rafts in Hiroshima Bay. This paper investigated the occurrence of stranded debris of foamed plastics, stranding and unsuitable use of EPS ‰oats on the coast of Eta and Kurahashi Islands in the Bay. Stranded debris of foamed plastic was collected from sand samples of 34 sites. Stranded ‰oats on the beach and unsuitably used ‰oats without covers for mooring buoys and fenders on the sea were observed visually at 58 sites along 48.6 km of coastline. The total number of collected debris was 245,656 items. Plastics accounted for 99.9 of the total number. Foamed plastic fragments accounted for 99.5 of the total, the size of under 10.0 mm represented 98.5 of the fragments, and the average density was 44,521.3 pieces per m2. Unsuitably used ‰oats totaled 6,760, and the density was 140.7 pieces per harbor. The density of stranded ‰oats was 1.1 pieces per km. The densities of unsuitably used ‰oats, stranded ‰oats and foamed plastic fragments on the coast of Eta Island were higher than those of Kurahashi Island.
