Half a century after the resurrection of the State, though Israel is a young country, it is blessed with many intellectual assets. Despite the many political storms it continues to weather, Israel has become a hothouse for some of the most profitable technological ideas. It is well integrated into the international community of technological industries and is regarded as one of the most prominent countries in the R&TD field.
The Aeronautical and Space activities of the country are one of the leading technologies of such development.

While large companies are already actively pursuing the adoption of CE principles within their business processes, there is a need for supporting Small and Medium Enterprises to evolve their organizational and cultural schemes, as well as their technological and methodological approaches towards CE. The paper outlines the approach that has been undertaken. Furthermore, it describes a Software System for the support of SMEs in the introduction of CE by self-assessment, case presentation, and tool selection. Research results for the system's application are given.

The overall objective of the EC project CYPRESS is to make informed predictions of the probable changes in aero gas turbine design in the near term (7–10 years) and the longer term (17–20 years) and to predict the pollutant emissions from these engines. Engine classes representative of the range of products of all European manufacturers will be included. CYPRESS will particularly investigate the effects of engine design and cycle on the relationships between CO2 and NOX. Because of the prospect that emissions should be regulated at all altitudes, CYPRESS will focus on predictions of cycle efficiencies and emissions throughout the full flight cycle.

This research is aimed at obtaining experimental data on contamination of the atmosphere by emissions from aircraft engines in cruise flight conditions, to establish and improve models of the physical and chemical processes which take place in the aircraft wake and in the general zone of air traffic corridors. An Su-24 ‘sounder’ aircraft equipped with an air sampling and collection system has been established to obtain the necessary atmospheric samples in flight, and procedures have been developed for performing the research flights. Techniques have also been developed for chemical analysis of the samples.

Following the analogy of visual clearances, the limited delegation of separation assurance to the flight crew is proposed to increase controller availability and flight crew situational awareness. A simulation involving controllers has been carried out to evaluate the potential benefits of the concept in enroute airspace and terminal area. This paper outlines the concept and presents the main results for the terminal area.

The UNSI project, project no. BE97-4044, was a collaborated effort aiming at promoting both unsteady aerodynamics and fluid-structure interaction. The main objectives are to be classified by an improvement of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods with respect to time-accurate, unsteady, flow behaviour, by comprehensively calibrating CFD methods, by carrying out measurements and computations in parallel to improve turbulence modelling particularly for unsteady flows, by extension and/or development of coupling procedures to account for sophisticated flow analysis going to be coupled to structural mechanics and last but not least by demonstrating the capabilities of the improved methods to predict static and dynamic aeroelastic phenomena for non-linear flow.
