The self-focusing phenomenon of partially coherent beams (PCBs) was simulated using the complex screen method com-bined with the split-step Fourier method to solve the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Considering the propagation of Gaussian Schell-model beams in a nonlinear medium as an example, the suppression effects of intensity, propagation distance, and spatial coherence on small-scale self-focusing were demonstrated. Simulations of overall and small-scale self-focusing using this method were compared with the existing literature to demonstrate the validity of the method. This method can numerically analyze the degree of self-focusing in PCBs and advance the study of their nonlinearity

We reported and demonstrated a solid-state laser to achieve controlled generation of order-switchable cylindrical vector beams (CVBs). In the cavity, a group of vortex wave plates (VWPs) with two quarter-wave plates between the VWPs was utilized to achieve mode conversion and order-switch of CVBs. By utilizing two VWPs of 1 st and 3 rd order, the 2 nd and 4 th order CVBs were obtained, with mode purities of 96.8% and 94.8%, and sloping efficiencies of 4.45% and 3.06%, respectively. Furthermore, by applying three VWPs of 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd order, the mode-switchable Gaussian beam, 2 nd , 4 th and 6 th order CVBs were generated.

We experimentally demonstrated the use of intelligent impairment equalization (IIE) for microwave downconversion link linearization in noncooperative systems. Such an equalizer is realized based on an artificial neural network (ANN). Once the training process is completed, the inverse link transfer function can be determined. With the inverse transformation for the detected signal after transmission, the third-order intermodulation distortion components are suppressed significantly without requiring any prior information from an input RF signal. Furthermore, fast training speed is achieved, since the configuration of ANN-based equalizer is simple. Experimental results show that the spurious-free dynamic range of the proposed link is improved to 106.5 dB · Hz 2/3 , which is 11.3 dB higher than that of a link without IIE. Meanwhile, the training epochs reduce to only five, which has the potential to meet the practical engineering requirement.

Photoelectron spectroscopy is a powerful tool in characterizing the electronic structure of materials. To investigate the specific region of interest with high probing efficiency, in this work we propose a compact insitumicroscope to assist photoelectron spectroscopy. The configuration of long objective distance of 200 mm with two-mirror reflection has been introduced. Large magnification of 5 × to 100 × , lateral resolution of 4.08 μ m, and longitudinal resolution of 4.49 μ m have been achieved. Meanwhile, the testing result shows larger focal depth of this insituoptical microscope. Similar configu-rations could also be applied to other electronic microscopes to improve their probing capability.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a high quality (Q)-factor all-silicon bound state in the continuum (BIC) metasurface with an imperforated air-hole array. The metasurface supports two polarization-insensitive BICs originated from guided mode resonances (GMRs) in the frequency range of 0.4 to 0.6 THz, and the measured Q-factors of the two GMRs are as high as 334 and 152, respectively. In addition, the influence of the thickness of the silicon substrate on the two resonances is analyzed in detail. The proposed all-silicon THz metasurface has great potential in the design and application of high-Q metasurfaces.

In light of the powerful light manipulation ability of holographic metasurfaces, optical imaging with wavelength multiplexing and polarization multiplexing is performed in this paper. The metasurface is composed of identical rectangular nanoholes etched in silver film. Three imaging effects, including the in-plane color imaging, three-dimensional wavelength-encrypted imaging, and polarization-multiplexing wavelength-encrypted imaging, are realized. The designed metasurface has compact structure, and the obtained image has lower noise. The simulation and experiment results give the verification. Multiple images, including spatial multiplexing, wavelength multiplexing, and polarization multiplexing, exhibit immense potentialities of metasurfaces, and this work is helpful for expanding the applications of metasurfaces.
