A filter-antenna configuration for the application for UWB communication system is presented. Firstly, a microstrip transmission line fed monopole antenna for the wide-band (2.65 GHz-8.52 GHz) communication system is designed and Its performance is verified. Secondly, in the place of microstrip transmission line feeding, a planar UWB microwave filter is used and the performance (3.65 GHz-10.16 GHz) of the new filter-antenna configuration is noted. The new filter-antenna configuration considerably improves the antenna performance and wide-band antenna becomes the UWB antenna after the insertion of the UWB microwave filter in place of microstrip-line feeding technique. Hence, the UWB antenna can be used as the wide-band impedance matching circuit to enhance the performance of the antenna in the passband. Apart from this there is improvement in the out-of-band performance. The proposed UWB filter-WB antenna configuration is simple and compact in size providing broadband impedance matching, and consistent radiation pattern within the UWB frequency range.

A single layer, single feed compact rectangular antenna is proposed. Resonant frequency has been reduced drastically by cutting unequal rectangular slots at the edge of the patch. Antenna size has been reduced by 46.13% with an increased frequency ratio.

A coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed semi circular disc antenna with a modified ground plane is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a semicircular radiating patch and semicircular arc-shaped ground plane. To achieve extremely wideband, two modifications are introduced. The first one is to modify the ground plane, and the second one is to insert slits near the feed point. Theoretical results show that the proposed antenna operates over 3.0 to 40 GHz for VSWR < 2. Details of the proposed antenna are presented, and simulated results show that the antenna has stable radiation patterns and good gain over its whole frequency band.

This work deals with the operation and control of a wind turbine driven isolated asynchronous generator (IAG) system to feed three-phase four-wire consumer loads. The voltage and frequency controller (VFC) of IAG consists of a three-leg voltage sourced converter (VSC) and a battery energy storage system. A zig-zag transformer is used to provide the neutral terminal for three-phase four wire consumer loads and to reduce the rating of the VSC. An instantaneous reactive power theory (IRPT) is implemented for the derivation of reference source currents using a DSP. The performance of VFC of IAG is demonstrated through extensive test results.

This paper deals with a rail navigation problem in GPS dark regions where only accelerometer and odometer data are available. A state inequality constraint based method for estimation with a Bayesian framework and Box-Gaussian approximation has been proposed. The method makes use of sequential pseudo-measurement update. A variant of the method with rejection of outlier measurements is also proposed. These methods are compared with the unconstrained estimation method as well as Gaussian pseudo-measurement method with measurement outlier rejection. The comparative study has been done using Monte Carlo simulations.

Innovations in renewable energy technology are becoming important as worldwide needs for affordable, reliable & clean energy grow worldwide. Research is needed for new generation technologies and effective integration of these into electric grid. Renewable sources are abundant particularly in India and we can harness these resources for producing electricity. Globally speaking, wind technology is in full deployment today, although others such as photovoltaic, wave energy are still in development stage. In some countries (USA, Korea) non hydro renewable sources generate 1–2% electricity however in next 10–15 years, it is expected to increase by 10 times. The main advantages of renewable sources are their being environment friendly, require lower capital investment and short construction period. Other benefits of distributed energy sources include long term energy security, decentralized supply for benefit of rural population, meet country's ever increasing energy demand. This paper discusses the need to incorporate renewable energy sources to grid/electric power supply, several issues and guidelines needed to be met before interconnection. It presents modeling, simulation and performance of an interface device modeled as voltage source inverter with a battery at the DC link (BESS).

This paper deals with automatic generation control of an interconnected hydrothermal system considering reheat type turbine in thermal plant area and low head turbine in hydro plant area using optimal controllers. The dynamical response of the load frequency control problem in an interconnected power system under consideration is improved with a practical viewpoint by designing the optimal output feedback controller. The optimal control methods are proposed and their dynamic responses are compared. The optimal control is determined by minimizing a performance index under the proposed output feedback conditions. The results indicate that the controllers exhibit better performance. In fact, the control systems designed on these methods satisfy the load frequency control requirements with a reasonable dynamic response.

This paper proposes a new active shunt-peaked realization for MOS Current Mode Logic (MCML) based memory element. The circuit proposes the use of active inductors in shunt-peaking of MCML memory element. The technique of shunt-peaking offers a way of enhancing the performance of gates at high speed of operations. The benefit of the proposed circuit is verified by designing and simulating various MCML based memory elements with resistive, PMOS, feedback and active inductor load. An overall performance evaluation in terms of setup time, hold time and propagation delay from clock-to-Q has been done in PSPICE using 0.18μm TSMC CMOS technology parameters. For a power supply of 3.3 V and clock frequency of 1 GHz, the simulation results show an improvement of 13 to 25 percent in the values of delay parameters for active shunt-peaked memory element in comparison to other existing MCML based designs.

This paper proposes a new dimension order routing algorithm for Mesh-of-Tree based Network-on-Chip design. It simplifies the router design as well. It results in significant saving in the energy consumed by the network. For uniform traffic, the saving is as high as 63%. It offers the flexibility of designing routers of different sizes for mapping of applications.
