Lycopene: A Powerful Nutraceutical with Diversified Health Benefits 番茄红素:一种具有多种健康益处的强大营养品

Abstract: Lycopene, a tetraterpene of eight isoprene units belongs to the family of carotenoids, abundantly found in tomatoes and its derivative products. It is non provitamin A carotenoid which is associated with powerful antioxidant action that may trap reactive oxygen species resulting in an increase in the overall antioxidant potential or a reduction in the oxidative damage to proteins, lipids, and DNA, thereby decreasing the oxidative stress. Due to this, the addition of lycopene to the diet is considered to be important. It is used as a food colorant owing to its strong color and non-toxic nature. Recent literature reports have highlighted the significance of lycopene in health. It exhibits many health benefits in ameliorating cancer, inflammation, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular complications, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and hepatic, skin, and bone diseases. In this review, we have summarized the information regarding sources, chemistry, extraction techniques, and health benefits of lycopene.

An Updated Account of Multifaceted Medicinal Values of Garlic: A Systematic Review 大蒜多方面药用价值的最新记述:系统综述

Background: Garlic (Allium sativum L.), one of the most important medicinal plants and spices, has many neuroprotective medicinal properties. Garlic has been mentioned in Indian medical traditions and Chinese literature as a remedy for infectious and other non-communicable diseases. Raw garlic and its derivatives have been used to treat a variety of ailments. Objectives: In this article, we attempted to summarize the numerous characteristics of specific sulfur-containing garlic components that have been observed thus far, to have a variety of medicinal aspects. Methods: Non-overlapping literature sources from recent years were searched and extracted using databases such as Dimensions, Google Scholar, and PubMed. We have summarized the concluding outputs collectively from the systematic literature search. Second, the catalytic site of the alliinase enzyme was identified to be formed by Y165, N207, D225, Y228, and K251 amino acid residues. We investigated the interaction of active site residues with the alliinase enzyme's natural substrate further, and the catalytic mechanism was deduced using molecular docking. Results: Several studies on various garlic products and their numerous derivatives are currently being conducted and vividly reported. These studies have found that it has antitumor activity as well as the ability to treat digestive issues and ulcers. Additionally, several potential antibacterial, antiviral, anticoagulant, etc. characteristics were reported by garlic components. Conclusion: In conclusion, the review focuses on the successful research on numerous novel garlic components and their derivatives, which may be useful in next-generation therapeutic approaches. In addition, it advises the use of garlic in moderation rather than carelessly.

Pneumonia Review based on Pathogenic Factors 基于致病因素的肺炎综述

Abstract: Pneumonia is defined as an inflammation of the lung parenchyma, and is caused by different factors resulting in varied manifestations and sequelae. Pneumonia has a great impact on an individual well-being and quality of life, and has brought a heavy economic burden to society. Pneumonia can be classified based on etiologies, lesion sites, coverage, acquisition ways, disease duration, pathological essence, and so on. Based on the classification of etiologies, this article briefly reviewed pneumonia from pathogenic characteristics, pathogenic mechanisms, epidemiology, diagnosis and Chinese medicine treatment. It is found that pneumonia is mainly caused by pathogens via various mechanisms, often outbreaks in winter and early spring, especially in areas with poor medical conditions, and is inclined to the immunocompromised individuals, such as children under 5 years of age and the elderly, its diagnosis basis are mainly clinical features and chest CT. Up to now, almost all types of pneumonia can be accurately diagnosed and effectively improved by different traditional medicines, especially Chinese medicines, while the fast diagnosis technology which is specific to its corresponding pathogen remains urgently to be developed.

Dendrobium Officinalis Caulis is a kind of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which has a long history of use and has been widely concerned by Chinese and foreign scholars. Much work on the chemical constituents (including polysaccharide, stilbene compound, flavonoids, alkaloids, volatile oil amino acids, etc.) together with their biological activities (including anti-oxidation, anti-tumor, enhance the body's immunity, anti-fatigue, regulate the digestive system, improve diabetes and so on) has been achieved. In this paper, we comprehensively reviewed the recent progress of its constitutents and biological activities, to provide the good reference for the researchers.

Medicinal Herbs for the Treatment of Peptic Ulcers 治疗消化性溃疡的草药

Abstract: Peptic ulcers are common gastrointestinal disorders characterized by the erosion of the stomach lining, duodenum, or esophagus. Conventional treatments, such as proton pump inhibitors and antibiotics for Helicobacter pylori eradication, have been the mainstay of therapy. However, the emergence of drug resistance and potential side effects have led to the exploration of alternative and complementary approaches, including medicinal herbs. This comprehensive review examines the potential use of medicinal herbs in the management of peptic ulcers. Ten herbal remedies, including Liquorice, Slippery Elm, Marshmallow Root, Aloe Vera, Chamomile, Ginger, Turmeric, Meadowsweet, Fenugreek, and Cabbage, are analyzed for their therapeutic properties and scientific research findings. These herbs have demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and mucoprotective effects that may support ulcer healing and symptom relief. Herbal formulations, such as teas, capsules, tablets, and extracts, offer convenient delivery methods for patients seeking herbal remedies. However, safety considerations and potential herb-drug interactions must be carefully monitored. Integrating herbal remedies with conventional treatments presents a comprehensive approach to peptic ulcer management. By combining these therapies, patients may experience enhanced therapeutic outcomes and improved quality of life. Dietary recommendations also play a crucial role, with the inclusion of soothing and beneficial foods, while avoiding trigger foods that may exacerbate symptoms. As the evidence base grows, collaborative efforts between traditional herbal medicine practitioners and mainstream medical professionals are vital to ensure safe and effective integration.

A Descriptive Analysis of the Nutraceutical Constituents, Extraction Techniques, and Possible Health Benefits of Tamarind 罗望子的营养成分、提取技术和可能的健康益处的描述性分析

Background: Tamarind is a multifunctional tree, with nearly every portion having significant nutritional or therapeutic use. The fruit, which produces acidic pulp, is the most valuable and often utilized portion. Objective: The aim of this paper is to discuss the distribution, habitat, chemical constituents and extraction techniques of tamarind. Method: This study reviews the chemical constituents, health benefits and extraction techniques of tamarind. Databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Google Scholar were used to search articles from 1990 to 2022. The key search terms included tamarind, phytoconstituents extraction and anti-nutritional factor. Research studies also included similar plant parts extracted from similar solvents which were considered in this review. Results: According to our observations, Tamarindus indica is a crucial plant with significant pharmacological properties. It is extensively used as a conventional medicine to treat a variety of disorders; however, its active ingredients require further investigation for future drug development and pharmacological activity. Tamarind contains a diverse range of bioactive compounds, including polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, vitamins, and minerals, which have been associated with various health-promoting properties. The study examines different extraction methods used to isolate tamarind's bioactive constituents, such as solvent extraction, supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE). Furthermore, the research highlights the potential health benefits of tamarind, including antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory effects, gastrointestinal support, cardiovascular benefits, and antimicrobial properties. Discussion: Tamarind includes citric acid, linoleic acid, volatile oils, vitamin C, potassium, Camp sterol, -amyrin, Tannins, saponins, and glycosides as a result of this. It has several pharmacological properties such as reducing swelling, preventing oxidation, hypolipidemic, weight loss, antibacterial, hepatoprotective, anthelmintic, and painkiller properties. These properties will assist to generate interest in Tamarind and develop novel preparations with more medicinal and commercial potential. The findings indicate that tamarind holds significant promise as a natural resource for developing functional foods, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceuticals with potential positive impacts on human health.

Method: This study reviews the chemical constituents, health benefits and extraction techniques of tamarind. Databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Google Scholar were used to search articles from 1990 to 2022. The key search terms included tamarind, phytoconstituents extraction and anti-nutritional factor. Research studies also included similar plant parts extracted from similar solvents which were considered in this review. Results: According to our observations, Tamarindus indica is a crucial plant with significant pharmacological properties. It is extensively used as a conventional medicine to treat a variety of disorders; however, its active ingredients require further investigation for future drug development and pharmacological activity. Tamarind contains a diverse range of bioactive compounds, including polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, vitamins, and minerals, which have been associated with various health-promoting properties. The study examines different extraction methods used to isolate tamarind's bioactive constituents, such as solvent extraction, supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE). Furthermore, the research highlights the potential health benefits of tamarind, including antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory effects, gastrointestinal support, cardiovascular benefits, and antimicrobial properties. Discussion: Tamarind includes citric acid, linoleic acid, volatile oils, vitamin C, potassium, Camp sterol, -amyrin, Tannins, saponins, and glycosides as a result of this. It has several pharmacological properties such as reducing swelling, preventing oxidation, hypolipidemic, weight loss, antibacterial, hepatoprotective, anthelmintic, and painkiller properties. These properties will assist to generate interest in Tamarind and develop novel preparations with more medicinal and commercial potential. Background and objectives: This study aimed to explore the treatment of thrombosis caused by Covid-19 with the drugs used in Unani medicine. Unani medicine has rich literature that mentions the pathogenesis, causes, and treatment of the diseases caused by obstruction of vessels. The study explores various drugs with actions that complement the resulting thrombolytic actions and details the rational treatment plan following the Unani medicine protocol. Methodology: The literature regarding thrombosis was surveyed from indexed online journals. The concept of thrombosis in Unani literature was surveyed from the source texts of Unani medicine. The treatment strategy and drugs with anti-thrombotic actions were explored, and a rational graded management of thrombosis in Covid-19 patients was presented that forms the general treatment plan of Unani medicine in patients with thrombosis. Results: The study observed that several Unani drugs from natural sources are mentioned for de-obstruent action. De-obstruent action is a composite action that encompasses anti-inflammatory, disintegratory, blood detoxification, and other activities. There was a concordance with the concept of thrombolytic action, as mentioned in conventional medicine. When rationally used, these drugs form a graded treatment of thrombosis associated with Covid-19. Conclusion: There is a potentially successful treatment plan with several de-obstruent drugs in Unani medicine that may be explored to treat thrombosis associated with Covid-19.

Background: A relatively untapped origin of drugs is medicinal plants. Traditional medicine employs Urtica dioica L. to treat a variety of ailments. A plant that produces fresh leaves that are dehydrated and used as a powder or in various forms is gaining popularity as a recent source of very nutritious food. Objective: This review attempts to address its nutritional profile, as well as its bioactive chemical ingredients and known food functional activities, as well as its historical usage in food and medicine. To date, several bioactive chemical components from stinging nettle have been identified, including flavonoids, phenolic and amino acids, fatty acids and carotenoids. Method: A comprehensive analysis of the literature search was conducted. Several databases have been searched using the common terms Urtica dioica, stinging nettle, phenolic compounds and phytochemicals using Scopus, Science Direct, PubMed-Medline and Google Scholar as search engines. Conclusion: The therapeutic potential of Urtica dioica and its disease-preventing strategies are updated in this review article. Also, its classification, chemical composition, nutritive value, and pharmacological activities are enlisted in this review with further future perspectives of Urtica dioica.

background: Chronic respiratory diseases rate has been increasing alarmingly, causing huge burden on the mortality and morbidity. Environmental pollution and occupational exposure, the major identified risk factors and endless adverse effects of conventional medicine put forward the need for better alternative options. Electuaries are the pharmaceutical formulation of poly herbal drugs that are employed as effective remedy for respiratory disorders in Unani system of medicine. objective: The aim is to assess the effectiveness of Unani pharmaco-therapeutics in the management of various respiratory diseases and the computation of drug/water and drug/sugar ratio for the elaborated electuaries. methods: A web-based review on certain selected Unani drugs and its molecular mechanism was carried out using the data bases such as Pub Med, Google Scholar, Science Direct and Scopus published until the end of June 2022. results: It was observed that several single drugs such as Khayarshambar (Cassia fistula L.), Sapistan (Cordia dichotama Forst), Asl-us- Soos (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.), Khatmi (Althea officianialis L.), Za’fran (Crocus sativus L.), Behīdāna (Cydonia oblonga Mill.) etc. used in Unani formulations claimed to be effective in management of respiratory diseases like COVID 19. The herbs and its chemical constituents showed the preventive effect on respiratory diseases with inflammatory cell mediators, lung pathologies, airway response and immunomodulatory effects. The results of research studies (preclinical, clinical or in silico) and their molecular mechanisms on Electuaries have proved to be optimal for the respiratory system. conclusion: Unani poly-pharmaceutics showed anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-allergic, anti- tussive, mucolytic actions arresting respiratory diseases.
