Objectives: One antimetabolite that is frequently used to treat cancer is methotrexate (MTX). Its frequent usage has been linked to negative skeletal effects such decreased bone production and bone loss. This research’s objective was to assess the preventive role of pomegranate peel extract and pumpkin seed oil on the histological and immunohistochemical changes of periodontium of rats receiving methotrexate (MTX). Material and Methods: Thirty-two male albino rats were randomly distributed into four groups.: Group I; normal, Group II; received MTX, Group III and Group IV; received MTX + pomegranate peel extract (PPE) and MTX +pumpkin seed oil (PSO) respectively. Mandibles were viewed under a light microscope for histological analysis using hematoxylin and eosin, specific Masson stain, and immunohistochemical evaluation using the TRAP labelling index that was calculated and statistically assessed. Results: group II showed partial resorbtion for lining of alveolar bone with dissociation of PDL fibers that devoid of fibroblast with more improvement in the histological result in PSO group compared PPE group. Regarding the immunohistochemical results, PSO group displayed a significant decrease in TRAP labelling index compared to other groups. Conclusion: both PPE and PSO could be used as a prophylactic dietary supplement against the adverse effect of MTX on the periodontium although PSO showed more promising effect.

Purpose: this study was to evaluate the retention of high-arched maxillary dentures constructed from conventional, thermoformed, and milled CAD/CAM resins. Materials and Methods: An edentulous patient with a high-arched palate was selected from the outpatient clinic, Department of Prosthetic Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Minia University. The patient was seeking complete denture treatment. Using the master cast in this case, thirty stone casts were duplicated, numbered, and randomly allocated to one of three study groups of 10 casts each. Thirty denture bases were constructed from the following materials to be as identical as possible: 10 of each of the following materials: conventional heat-cured resin, thermoformed resin, and milling resin by CAD/CAM. The retention of the produced denture bases was tested using a universal testing machine. Results : The thermoformed group displayed the highest numeric retention mean (5.576 N), followed by CAD/CAM (4.888 N) and the conventional method (3.232 N). There were statistically significant differences between all groups. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this in vitro study, it may be concluded that the thermoformed resin may be the most suitable material for high-arched palates, followed by CAD-CAM materials. The conventional technique in this case is less recommended.

Purpose: This study addresses stress distribution in the peri-implant bone of mandibular overdentures supported by there implants with different inclinations. Materials and methods: Three separate 3D FE models were prepared to simulate mandibular implant overdentures with ball attachments. Each model was modified according to distal implant’s inclination (0, 15, and 25 degrees), while the midline implant was kept straight. Four loads were applied to the denture: clench, masseter, pterygoid, and temporal loads. The behavioral characteristics of the peri-implant bone and the implants were studied and recorded under the applied loads for the three implant inclinations. Results: According to the study, the stress distribution in the mandible varied depending on the implant inclination. The maximum stress observed on the mandible ranged from 19.1 to 36.1 MPa across all cases studied. As the implant inclination increased, the maximum stress and strain increased in both the mandible and implants. However, the rate of increase was found to be less pronounced at higher fixation angles. Conclusion: These findings suggest that implant inclination should be carefully considered to minimize stress and strain on the mandible and implants during treatment planning for implant-supported overdentures.

Statement of the Problem: selection of prosthetic materials is a critical factor affecting the long-term success of implant supported restorations. PEEK poly-ether-ether ketone-is a quite new polymer used for dental applications. However, there are limited data available concerning Stress analysis and strain development of PEEK restorations as implant superstructure. Introduction; Materials and Methods: A total of 14 frameworks (n=7) were fabricated of Zirconia and PEEK by milling technique, divided into two equal groups to be randomly seated on its corresponding titanium abutment and then subjected to 5000 thermo-cycles. Strain gauge method was selected in this study to assess strain development where strain gauges were adhesively bonded mesial and distal to each implant-abutment unit and data were recorded using a strain meter device. Results: As regards the overall strain (mean of the four channels): there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: PEEK frameworks revealed slightly higher strain compared to zirconia with o significant difference in the over-all strain channels.

Purpose: This study compares cyclic fatigue and cutting efficiency of two types of NiTi Rotary files, namely AF one files with a constant 4% taper and Hyflex EDM Files with a variable taper. Materials and Methods: Forty files, twenty of each brand, were examined under a microscope to ensure their integrity before testing. The evaluation focused on cyclic fatigue and cutting efficiency. Cyclic fatigue testing utilized a specialized block simulating dental canals, following Grande et al.’s prescribed design. Lubricating oil flooded the artificial canals, and files were tested at specified RPM and torque until breakage, with recorded breakage times. Cutting efficiency testing involved using plexiglass blocks, and measuring the length of cut during 1 minute. A dedicated device facilitated testing, including an air compressor for debris clearance. Results: Data from both tests were collected and analyzed, revealing that Hyflex EDM files demonstrated superior resistance to cyclic fatigue compared to AF one files(p<0.001). However, AF one files exhibited higher cutting efficiency than Hyflex EDM (p= 0.001), with statistically significant differences in both results. These findings are crucial for dentists in making informed decisions about the choice of files for root canal treatment in their practice.

Aim: To assess the knowledge and awareness of CBCT among a group of Egyptian pediatric dentists Materials and methods: An online open-ended questionnaire with 21 items were delivered to around 300 applicants, who practice pediatric dentistry in Egypt. The questionnaire was conveyed by Facebook and distributed among different groups, via Whats app groups and messages, through emails and LinkedIn platform. Demographic, knowledge and awareness data regarding CBCT were collected. Categorical data were analyzed using chi square test followed by pairwise comparisons utilizing multiple z-tests with Bonferroni correction. The signicance level was set at p ≤ 0.05. Results: Two-hundred twenty-nine participants responded to the survey during a 2-month interval. Almost half of the respondents showed poor knowledge of CBCT, 65.2% believes that adequate teaching is not given to dental students, regarding CBCT in their universities, and 95.2% assumes that continuous education courses is required for pediatric dentists. Conclusions: There is explicit gap in knowledge and awareness of CBCT in pediatric dental practitioners, necessitating additional CBCT education and training courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Clinical relevance: The increase of knowledge and awareness among Egyptian pediatric dentists is required, more training and tuition should be integrated in the students’ curricula in their undergraduate and post graduate stages.

Almost half of the respondents showed poor knowledge of CBCT, 65.2% believes that adequate teaching is not given to dental students, regarding CBCT in their universities, and 95.2% assumes that continuous education courses is required for pediatric dentists. Conclusions: There is explicit gap in knowledge and awareness of CBCT in pediatric dental practitioners, necessitating additional CBCT education and training courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Clinical relevance: The increase of knowledge and awareness among Egyptian pediatric dentists is required, more training and tuition should be integrated in the students’ curricula in their undergraduate and post graduate stages.","PeriodicalId":11504,"journal":{"name":"Egyptian dental journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140355132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Introduction: Revascularization therapy for young permanent teeth with apical pathology has gained widespread acceptance as an alternative to traditional apexification procedures. In the context of regenerative endodontic treatment (RET), both PRF and clot formation [1] have been used as scaffolds. Objective : This study aimed to evaluate the microscopic tissue-level outcomes of the revascularization process in young permanent premolar dog teeth in vitro. This experimental study aimed to evaluate histological outcomes of the process in immature dog teeth. Methods : Sixty roots that were not fully developed were divided into three experimental groups (control and study) and each group divided again into subgroups (positive and negative) based on the treatment protocol. Moreover, samples from the normal pulp of dog teeth were incorporated. Results : The study group showed a statistically significant increase the percentage of blood vessels and odontoblasts numbers in comparison to the other two groups (P value < 0.001, P=0.003). In terms of inflammatory count, the negative control group showed a higher count in comparison the other two groups Conclusions : Clot formation and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) demonstrated comparable outcomes in periapical healing, specifically regarding mean area fraction of blood vessels and odontoblasts numbers.
