Characterization, modeling and comparison of 1/f noise in Si/SiGe:C HBTs issued from three advanced BiCMOS technologies 三种先进BiCMOS技术产生的Si/SiGe:C hbt中1/f噪声的表征、建模和比较

The main objective of the development of new BiCMOS technologies is to enhance the high frequency performances of the devices. Nevertheless, Low Frequency Noise (LFN) analysis, in particular the 1/f noise, is a very sensitive tool to evaluate a technology. In this work we present a complete characterization and modeling of the 1/f noise in Si/SiGe:C HBTs issued from three BiCMOS technologies (130 nm, shrinked 130 nm and 55 nm). The measured base current spectral density SIB, in the HBTs issued from a 130 nm BiCMOS technology, presented a typical behavior of 1/f noise. The extracted SPICE figure of merit Kb has an excellent value of 1.4 10−10 μm2. For HBTs issued from the two other technologies (shrinked 130 nm and recent under development 55 nm) the low frequency noise spectra are often disrupted by the presence of more or less pronounced Lorentzian shape leading to noise dispersion. In HBTs where a typical behavior was observed, the 1/f noise level was found to be proportional to the square of IB, and inversely proportional to the emitter area Ae. The extracted Kb value was equal to 6 10−10 for the shrinked 130 nm technology and approximately 10−9 μ2 for the 55 nm technology. In order to take into account the HF performances, we have also studied the ratio fc/ft. This figure of merit combines LF Noise and HF characteristics.

NICBPM: Non-invasive cuff-less blood pressure monitor NICBPM:无创无袖带血压监测仪

An ultra-low power, ultra portable, wearable integrated bio-medical device, the Non-Invasive Cuff-less Blood Pressure Monitor (NICBPM) is proposed to measure the Pulse Transit Time (PTT). The relationship between PTT and Blood Pressure (BP) is investigated using linear and non linear regression models. Simultaneous reading obtained from an FDA approved, commercially available Blood Pressure monitor and the (Electrocardiogram) ECG and (photoplethsymogram) PPG signal from the NICBPM are used to calibrate the device for 30 subjects during cardiopulmonary exercise test. Bland-Altman plots for the linear regression model revealed limits of agreement of −10.6 to 10.6 mmHg for systolic BP (sBP) and −10.5 to 10.5 mmHg for distolic BP (dBP). Bland-Altman plots for the non linear regression model revealed marginally better limits of agreement between −8.5 to 8.5 mmHg for sBP and −6.6 to 6.6 mmHg for dBP. sBP can be estimated from the NICBPM with 99% accuracy and 99% sensitivity.

A symbol time compression for ICI reduction in high mobility OFDM systems 在高移动性OFDM系统中减少ICI的符号时间压缩

Conventional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) suffers from high mobility which leads to inter-carrier interference (ICI) and thus the system performance is degraded. In this paper, an OFDM symbol time compression (STC) in one half duration is proposed. The proposed STC scheme increases subcarrier spacing twice and thus the normalized Doppler frequency will be decreased by 50% and thus the bit error rate (BER) performance is improved compared to the conventional OFDM system. The proposed STC scheme is implemented by spreading and combining of input data streams. The proposed STC scheme is investigated in the digital video broadcasting terrestrial (DVB-T) system under AWGN and COST 207 typical multi-path fading channel for BPSK modulation scheme. The performance measures are the BER and the ICI power. The simulation results conform the theoretical ICI power and BER performance. The numerical results show the BER performance improvement compared to the conventional OFDM.

Accurate piecewise uniform approximation logarithmic/antilogarithmic converters for GPU applications 用于GPU应用的精确分段均匀逼近对数/反对数转换器

Logarithmic number system (LNS) is increasingly used for low power arithmetic calculations in graphical processing unit (GPU). LNS requires less hardware. Based on uniform subdivisions and linear-Lagrange interpolation, a novel 8-subdivisions logarithmic/antilogarithmic converters are proposed. Compared with different methodologies, the proposed logarithmic/antilogarithmic converters achieve high accuracy. Also, a significant decrease in area is presented in the comparison between the proposed converters and the prior ones. Hardware implementation using shift-and-add approach is adopted to further simplify the hardware. The novel logarithmic/antilogarithmic converters are implemented and synthesized using 90 nm CMOS technology. Up to 23% and 11% decrease in relative error and area are achieved.

This paper presents a motion sensing add-on and a graphical user interface for the balance board. Our system adds kinetic sensing to the board in order to record its rotation in the 3D space. A sports game, a 3D video game for ski training, is set to be controlled by the rotation of the balance board. The system thus adds to the balance board IoT capabilities.

FPGA implementation of machine learning based image quality assessment 基于机器学习的图像质量评估的FPGA实现

This paper presents the construction and implementation process on an FPGA platform of an objective perceived image quality, using an objective image quality assessment (IQA) method. This objective IQA uses machine learning (ML) methods to construct the models upon the features extracted from different concepts: the natural scene statistic (NSS) in spatial domain, the gradient magnitude (GM), the Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG), as well as the spectral and spatial entropies. The training phase to estimate the image quality is performed by a learning which uses two training phases to predict the objective image quality; the first to train the intermediary metrics using the classes of independent features, and the second to evaluate the image quality using the intermediary metrics. The Implementation phase on an Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) platform is tested on Xilinx Virtex 7 (VC707) FPGA board, and implemented using C/C++ code on Xilinx Vivado HLS.

A set of experiments on renewable energy for elementary schools in Lebanon 黎巴嫩小学的一组可再生能源实验

Ages are passing and the world is consuming nonrenewable energy sources at an exponential rate. Luckily, humans have started to raise the alert bit by bit in the world of adults, officials, and even universities. However, the world of teenagers seems to be off the alerting map. This is a huge mistake considering that young minds are more capable than any adult to understand and raise a certain cause. This is why aiming out for these youngsters should be the primary concern on the agenda of any “Go Green” movement or organization. There is primordial need to integrate the renewable energy concept in a very simplified way to elementary school students who, with the correct education, could turn into a powerful green weapon for the crude black future. Hence, in this work, several alteration propositions are made to update and reshape the book chapters on electricity given to students by adding the components of renewable energy as energy sources for a better future. The end product of this research is a toolbox, a “Go Green” box, that contains a booklet consisting of a wide spectrum of renewable energy experiments. This box can be used at schools for a pair of partners and would guide them in the protocol step by step to reach the conclusion. It would therefore make them understand by themselves the benefits of the investigated renewable energy source.

Luckily, humans have started to raise the alert bit by bit in the world of adults, officials, and even universities. However, the world of teenagers seems to be off the alerting map. This is a huge mistake considering that young minds are more capable than any adult to understand and raise a certain cause. This is why aiming out for these youngsters should be the primary concern on the agenda of any “Go Green” movement or organization. There is primordial need to integrate the renewable energy concept in a very simplified way to elementary school students who, with the correct education, could turn into a powerful green weapon for the crude black future. Hence, in this work, several alteration propositions are made to update and reshape the book chapters on electricity given to students by adding the components of renewable energy as energy sources for a better future. The end product of this research is a toolbox, a “Go Green” box, that contains a booklet consisting of a wide spectrum of renewable energy experiments. This box can be used at schools for a pair of partners and would guide them in the protocol step by step to reach the conclusion. Robustness improvement of compact predistorters in a CO-OFDM system using semiconductor optical amplifiers 利用半导体光放大器提高CO-OFDM系统中紧凑型预失真器的鲁棒性

This paper focuses on digital signal processing techniques compensating the non-linear effects inherent to optical modulation or amplification within a coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) transmitter featuring a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). Two complementary approaches are specifically considered: crest factor reduction and linearization using a digital baseband predistortion. Two possible implementations are presented for the digital predistortion block. One is the basic solution of static compensation; the other consists in a parallel two-box digital polynomial predistorter (PTB) combining, in parallel, a static nonlinear block with a memory polynomial predistorter. Moreover, we show that a linearization of the dynamic behavior of the transmitter, in addition to peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction, offers better performance. The robustness of the predistorters or of the combined predistorter/PAPR reduction blocks is assessed for various scenarios. Finally, we propose solutions to improve robustness via multipoint identification or switching strategies for predistortion.

Dynamics of fractional and double-humped logistic maps versus the conventional one 分数和双驼峰逻辑映射与传统逻辑映射的动力学

This paper presents the dynamic analysis of two discrete logistic chaotic maps versus the conventional map. The first map is the fractional logistic map with the extra degrees of freedom provided by the added number of variables. It has two more variables over the conventional one. The second map is the double-humped logistic map. It is a fourth-order map which increases the non-linearity over the conventional one. The dynamics of the three maps are discussed in details, including mathematical derivations of fixed points, stability analysis, bifurcation diagrams and the study of their chaotic regions. The chaotic behavior of the three maps, is investigated using the Maximum Lyapunov exponent (MLE).

Theoretical modeling of wireless body area networks ranging errors based on RSSI 基于RSSI的无线体域网络测距误差理论建模

Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) have been subject to important research efforts for the past years. They are indeed expected to fulfil the needs of a variety of emerging human centric applications at very low cost and ultra-low power (e.g. healthcare, wellness, security, sports, gaming). Even more recently these networks have been considered for radiolocation purposes (i.e. out of transmitted signals on and around the body). This new localization add-on is rather based on the estimation of the separating distance between the WBANs devices, based on radio technologies such as Narrow-Band (N-B) and/or even Impulse Radio-Ultra Wideband (IR-UWB). In this context we present herein a theoretical modeling of Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) ranging errors based on Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI). This model consists in applying a Cramer Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) expression for discussions, but using recent experimental channel model parameters (i.e. path loss and shadowing parameters) obtained over Off-body links, which have been specified in the ISM band at 2.45 GHz.
