Retention Load and Volume Loss of Telescopic PEEK Crowns with Different Tapers Angles and thickness: in vitro study. 不同锥度、角度和厚度的PEEK冠的固位负荷和体积损失的体外研究。

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the Retention force and Volume Loss of CAD/CAM-fabricated polyetheretherketone (PEEK) telescopic crowns which with different Tapers and Thicknesses. Material and methods: Peek primary crowns (N = 5) were CAD/CAM milled and provided with secondary crowns CAD/CAM-fabricated PEEK secondary crowns (group N = 5). The universal testing machine was used to determine the retentive force and volume loss at values at baseline and after 3, 6, 9, and 12 months. Data were analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences P value <0.05(*) was considered a significant difference & P-value <0.001(**) was considered a highly significant difference. Results: Maximum Retentive Load results were analyzed by using mean and standard deviation. repeated measure ANOVA test is used to compare duration in each group in which there is a highly significant difference between durations, also One Way ANOVA test is used to compare groups in each period, while there is no significant difference between groups in each duration. PEEK; secondary crowns exhibit stable retentive force values over 12 months of use showing no signs of deterioration while the retentive force values of electroformed secondary crowns increase over time. Conclusions: Clinical relevance PEEK might be a suitable alternative to proven metallic materials for the fabrication of secondary crowns.

Effect of four conservative treatment methods on the muscular activity of masseter and temporalis muscles for subjects with temporomandibular joint disc displacement with reduction 四种保守治疗方法对颞下颌关节盘移位复位患者咬肌和颞肌肌肉活动的影响

Objective: This study was conducted to study the effect of four different treatment methods on the muscular activity of masseter and temporalis muscles of patients with temporomandibular disc displacement with reduction. Subjects and methods: Total 100 patients were selected. The selected patients were 64 females and 36 males with mean age about 31 years. The selected patients were divided equally into four groups: patients in group I were treated with behavioral therapy; patients of group II had a low-level laser therapy; patients of group III received anterior repositioning splints; patients of group IV received a flat plane splints. Activities of masseter and temporalis muscles were evaluated using surface electromyography (EMG). Statistical analysis was done using one-way ANOVA test for comparison between groups. Within each group, comparison between baseline and after treatment was done using paired t-test (p<0.05). Results : All groups showed significant increase in the muscular activity after 6 months of treatment except behavioral therapy group. The flat splint showed the highest value, and the behavioral therapy group showed the lowest value. Conclusion : Treatment with occlusal splints significantly increased the masticatory muscles activity, and the other lines of treatment can be considered as an adjunctive therapy.

EVALUTION OF TURMERIC AND THYME AS ROOT CANAL IRRIGANTS ON PRIMARY TEETH 姜黄和百里香作为乳牙根管冲洗剂的研究进展

Objectives: To assess the antimicrobial effect of turmeric and thyme as root canal irrigants on Enterococcus Faecalis bacteria lives in primary teeth root canals. Subjects and methods: This study was carried out with informed consent, on fifty-four children suffering from non-vital primary molars indicated to pulpectomy and selected from Outpatient clinic of pedodontics and oral health department, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Al-Azhar University. Children ′ s teeth (54) were divided into three equal groups (18 eac): Group A: Molars roots of this group were irrigated with Turmeric solution. Group B: Molars roots of this group were irrigated with Thyme solution. Group C: Molars roots of this group were irrigated with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) solution (control group). Microbiological culturing and counting of Enterococcus Faecalis were done after The collection at baseline and post-treatment samples for each group. Results: NaOCl group had the highest antibacterial efficacy (83.4%) against E. faecalis, followed by Turmeric extract group (56.7%), then Thyme oil group (55.6%). Conclusion: NaOCl is still the irrigant of choice and has superior antibacterial effect than that of Turmeric and Thyme needs more investigation and additives to increase their efficacy.

Evaluation of alveolar ridge preservation using Platelet-Rich Fibrin with Leukocytes 富血小板纤维蛋白与白细胞对肺泡脊保存的评价

Objective: To evaluate the alveolar ridge preservation using platelets-rich fibrin with leukocytes covered by collagen membrane. Subjects and Methods: Forty patients have one of maxillary premolars indicated for extraction were selected and divided into two groups Study group: consisted of 20 extraction sockets that received L-PRF covered by collagen membrane. Control group: consisted of 20 extraction sockets as a control. Patient will be followed at 3,7 and 14 days to evaluate the healing index. Bone density and dimensional changes will be evaluated by (CBCT) after 3 and 6 months. Results: The vertical bone and horizontal bone resorption showed a statistically significant decrease in study group than control by (study: 6,1 %, control 10 %) at 3 months. The bone density was increased in both groups after 3 and 6 months, however it was a statistically significant increase in study group than control the healing is improved with a statistically significant increase in the second week than the first week in both groups. Conclusion: using of leukocyte with platelet rich fibrin (L-PRF) together with collagen membrane accelerates the formation of bone filling in the extraction bony socket, increasing its density and minimizing its dimensional change.

Effect of different polishing systems on surface roughness and color stability of lithium disilicate ceramics 不同抛光体系对二硅酸锂陶瓷表面粗糙度和颜色稳定性的影响

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect of two polishing systems on the surface roughness and color stability of lithium disilicate ceramic. Materials and Methods: Forty disc-shaped lithium disilicate samples were constructed and cemented into a cavity prepared onto the labial surface of freshly extracted bovine teeth; The samples were divided into four groups (10 samples per group); C: Control, SS: Scaling only, SE: Scaling followed by polishing using Eve Diapro lithium disilicate polishers, SD: Scaling followed by polishing using Diatech ShapeGuard ceramic polishing plus kit. The surface roughness was measured before scaling, after scaling and finally after the polishing procedure. The color parameters were measured before and after the staining procedures using VITA Easyshade Advance 4.0 according to the CIE L*a*b* color order system. Results: Both polishing systems significantly decreased the surface roughness of the disilicate ceramic and was accompanied by a significant decrease in the color change. However, the color change in the polished group was significantly higher than that of the control glazed group. Conclusion: The surface roughness and color stability of lithium disilicate ceramics can be enhanced by recent polishing systems, however, it shows different topography than the glazed ceramic surface.

Objectives: This study was directed to evaluate the effect of simvastatin as pulpotomy medicament in the primary molar teeth, to determine its clinical and radiographic success rate and to compare it with formocresol (FC). Subjects and Methods: Children aged between 3-7 years which had a total of 80 decayed primary molar teeth indicated for pulpotomy treatment were included in this study. The involved teeth were grouped into two groups according to the received medicament; Group A; Pulpotomized teeth received simvastatin; Group B; Pulpotomized teeth received formocresol. The clinical and radiographic evaluation were made after 1-week, 3-months, and 6-months follow specific criteria. Results: Pulpotomized teeth which received formocresol showed slightly higher success rate, but both of simvastatin and formocresol treated teeth showed comparable clinical and radiographic clinical success rates with no statistically significant difference. Conclusion: Simvastatin can be used as effective alternative medicament for formocresol in the treatment of pulpotomized primary molar teeth.

FATIGUE PERFORMANCE & FRACTURE MODE ANALYSIS OF TWO AVAILABLE HIGH STRENGTH GLASS CERAMICS 两种高强度玻璃陶瓷的疲劳性能及断裂模式分析

Objective: As the high strength glass ceramics had attained a profound contribution in prosthodontics, it was aimed to evaluate the fatigue performance of two machinable high strength glass ceramics with further fracture mode analysis. Materials and methods : Twenty crowns were fabricated using Cerec in-Lab CADCAM system, ten crowns were fabricated from IPS. E.max CAD: group (EM-LDS) as control group and ten crowns were fabricated from VITA SUPRINITY: group (VS-ZLS) . The completed crowns were cemented on epoxy resin dies. The cemented crowns were subjected to thermomechanical cycling for 75000 cycles, then loaded until fracture by using universal testing machine. Failure mode were assesses guided by Brukes’ classification for all specimens. The collected data was statistically analyzed using Student t-test and Paired t-test while the significance level was set at P ≤ 0.05, in addition to descriptive statistics of the fracture mode analysis. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in fatigue performance between the two tested groups with the major fracture occurrence in type III central fracture. Conclusion : both tested high strength glass ceramics are considered as acceptable modalities for restoration of single tooth restoration as both materials have comparable strength and exceeded the reported range of human masticatory forces.

The Efficacy of Nanosilver Coated Stainless Steel Brackets in Prevention of Enamel Demineralization in Orthodontic Patients 纳米银涂层不锈钢托槽预防正畸患者牙釉质脱矿的效果

Objective: the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nanosilver coated stainless steel brackets in prevention of enamel demineralization during orthodontic treatment. Subjects and Methods: A randomized clinical trial was conducted on 32 patients aged 13-16 years. All participants were scheduled to have maxillary and mandibular first premolars extraction as a part of orthodontic treatment. The patients were randomly divided into two equal groups: Group I in which 64 nanosilver coated stainless steel brackets were bonded in the upper and lower first premolars, and Group II in which conventional uncoated stainless steel brackets were bonded in the upper and lower first premolars. In both groups, 32 brackets of one side from upper and lower arches were deboned after one month, and the other side after 2 months. After debonding, the teeth were extracted, cleaned, and prepared for evaluation under scanning electron microscope to investigate enamel surface topography, and energy dispersive x-ray analysis that evaluate the mineral content of the teeth. Results: Calcium & phosphorus contents in the extracted premolars were stable in group I after one and two months, while group II showed significant decrease in calcium & phosphorus contents at the same periods. Scanning electron microscope examination revealed almost normal topographic feature of enamel surface in group I, while enamel surface in group II showed typical features of enamel demineralization. Conclusion: Silver nanoparticles coated stainless steel brackets can preserve the mineral content of the enamel surface, thus decreasing the likelihood of demineralization during treatment than uncoated brackets.

Objectives: In primary teeth, the clinical success of pulpectomy depends on the eradication of pathogenic microorganisms from the infected canals . Thus, this study was directed to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of citric acid and chitosan in comparison with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) on E. faecalis. S ubjects and Methods: A total of 30 children aged between 4-7 years were included in the present study. The enrolled children had primary carious teeth that were indicated for pulpectomy treatment. The involved teeth were categorized into three main groups according to the type of irrigant solution; 6% citric acid (A), 6% chitosan (B), and 1% NaOCl (C). Then each main group was further subdivided into non-activated (A1, B1, and C1) or ultrasonic activated (A2, B2, and C2). E. faecalis count was carried out using a colony-forming unit (CFU). Results: All tested irrigants with and without activation showed a significant reduction in E. faecalis count. The ultrasonic activation significantly improves the antibacterial effect of the tested irrigant. In comparison between the tested irrigants, there was a significant difference. The higher reduction in E. faecalis count was recorded with 1% NaOCl followed by 6% chitosan. The use of 6% citric acid has a lower effect among the tested irrigants. Conclusion: Activation of irrigant solution significantly improves their antibacterial effect. chitosan has a significant effect on the reduction of E. faecalis count. Citric acid cannot be used alone as an irrigant solution.
