The accurate measurement of vehicle yaw rate is vital for vehicle dynamics control, such as yaw control and traction control. Generally, vehicle yaw rate is measured by gyro that costs too much to be used commercially as an on-vehicle sensor. Based on soft sensor technique in inferential control theory, a novel method for the estimation of vehicle yaw rate is proposed. The estimation is based on Kalman filter and 2 degree-of-freedom vehicle dynamic models to realize the estimation of way rate of linear minimize mean square error. Results of simulation and experiment show an accurate and low-cost estimation of yaw rate is achieved and soft sensor estimation method is feasible in measurement of vehicle state.

This paper presents a fast license plate localization algorithm for monitoring the highway ticketing systems. The proposed approach can be divided into four sections, that is, vertical edge detection, edge density map generation, binarization and dilation, and license plate location. The algorithm can quickly and correctly detect the region of vehicle license plates. Under the experiment databases, which were taken from real scene, 459 from 478 images are successfully detected. The average accuracy of locating vehicle license plate is 96.00%. The average processing time of one color image is about 100 ms.

This paper discusses a new algorithm for the shortest path founding based on hierarchical graphs. It plots out a flat graph into some sub-graphs, which are abstracted as a high-level graph. The calculation for the shortest path founding begins at the high-level graph. This method shrinks the searching range of the shortest path and reduces the time spending of calculating it. Since the impedance function among sub-graphs can be calculated dynamically, this algorithm can be applied to dynamic traffic inducement system.

On the basic of studying the intelligence route guidance and control system, the multi-layering control system can be simulated through artificial neural network (ANN) models and the evaluation and act control of hierarchy route guidance system can be realized in this paper. Then the large control system can be simplified and realized, and the controllability of control system can be realized. The problems of nonlinear, fuzzy, dynamic, large scale control system can be solved and an intersection model of ANN can be discussed in detail. The problem of the intelligence route guidance system can be achieved in the same method.

While various advanced traffic management systems have been deployed all over the world, the number of approaches of the deployment remains two: centralized and distributed. Compared with the centralized system, the distributed system provides more reliability, scalability and resource sharing. The distributed system also eliminates the bottleneck caused by the communication of the large amount of traffic data. This paper presents a discussion of the distributed ATMS software, followed by a case study of the Wisconsin statewide ATMS software. Parts of the distributed ATMS system have been operated in Wisconsin for more than 10 years. Their experience is a very valuable resource for the development of ATMS.

It is an important way that some remote sensing images of different spatial and spectral resolutions are fused to satisfy the requirement of general application. In order to achieve a good fusion result, low spatial spectral images should be sampled. At present, nearest neighbor resampling is often adopted which has some effects on the precision of new image. In this paper, an image fusion method is proposed with bilinear resampling wavelet (BRW) transform, and compared with nearest neighbor resampling wavelet transform. IHS transform and Brovery transform. On the platform of ENVI/IDL, simulations show that the BRW method has good performance for preserving the spectral and spatial resolutions for remote sensing images, with lowest loss of spectral information.

An underground practical sensing system was developed to detect covered-over manholes along the sewer lines under the urban pavement. The sensor head of the system is composed of a sonde and some transmitting and receiving circuits. Coil-type antennas has been designed and implemented base on the induction principle and numerical simulation. The transmitting circuits generate excitation current for the transmitting antennas, and the signal received by the receiving antennas is processed with the receiving circuits. A windows-based application software can calculate phase shift as well as amplitude value of the receiving signal. And there is also a distance-measurement device to provide information about the location of the covered-over or missing manholes. Satisfactory results have been achieved from the field tests of the system in actual manholes. For loop antennas with a spacing of 0.5 m, the system has a phase resolution of about 1/spl deg/ and an amplitude resolution of about 0.5%.
