The article is devoted to the problems of correlation between models of etiquette behavior in Iranian and Russian communicative cultures. We focus on the attention in the article is paid to taarof – the system of etiquette behavior in Persian culture. Taarof plays a fundamentally important role in the life of modern Iranian society and in the communicative interaction of Iranians with foreigners. The article deals with the main postulates of the theory of politeness and the problems of national specifics of speech etiquette in Persian culture. The crucial point for Persian culture is the concept of ceremony, ritualized behavior in everyday communication. Ritualized communication also existed in the patriarchal Russian society, however, modern Russian everyday etiquette has largely lost the features of ceremonial and has become less formal. In the article, we analyze real everyday conversations of Persian culture. We list important characteristics of the ceremonial nature of everyday communication in Iran. There are two situations of an unexpected meeting and a related invitation to visit to be considered. What we are interested in is the stereotypical invitation and refusal formulas, which are idiomatic and figurative. We plan to describe the pragmatic nature of the etiquette formulas of Taarof and to compile the Russian-Iranian dictionary of speech etiquette in future.

The paper is dedicated to the ivory cover, commonly referred to in scholarship as the Murano diptych. The name, alluding to one of the Vene- tian islands, derives from an 18 th -century historic record attesting the presence of one of the sides of the cover in a Murano monastery. This part of the diptych was later brought to Ravenna and today is on display at the Ravenna National Museum. The fragments of the other side of the diptych are dispersed among various museum and library collections in Manchester, Paris, Berlin, and Saint Petersburg. Notwithstanding the scattered location of the ivory, it is possible to reconstruct its constituent elements and original decoration. Besides offering a detailed analysis of the surviving fragments, this paper focuses on the overall iconographic program and formal characteristics of the diptych, and studies its reliefs in light of late antique ivory carving and church decoration. It is argued that late antique ivories represent an important source of information concerning the use of apocryphal imagery in monumental art, enabling us to reconstruct the imagery of early Byzantine narrative cycles.

The ideological foundation of artificial intelligence as a scientific and applied field is an exact epistemology (EE), which is the study of the interaction of the cognizing subject and the corresponding object of cognition through heuristics and reasoning logics that generate new knowledge and its acceptance. Formal means of exact epistemology – languages of knowledge representation and logic of reasoning – and their practical implementation in computer systems provide constructive imitation and strengthening of some aspects of human intelligent activity. The formalization of cognitive activity is extremely in demand in the humanities, in particular, in the sciences of human and society. From the point of view of exact epistemology, a sociological poll – a traditional form of sociological research – is the interaction of the theoretical intelligence (one of the key concepts of EE) of the researcher and the respondents’ common sense. For a correct description of social reality, the question of the respondents’ rational perception of the elements of the questionnaire and the measure of rationality of individuals and their groups is not the last one. The scientific and constructively implemented apparatus of exact epistemology is the JSM-method of automated research support. The method has logical means for presenting opinions, as well as the formal presentation of a closed sociological poll. The instrumental capabilities of the JSM method provide a reasonable acceptance of new knowledge based on an expanded concept of rationality, including rationality as an argued opinion and argumentation, supported by formalized heuristics and the transformation of unclear ideas into precisely defined concepts.

Professor S.O. Schmidt and professor O.M. Medushevskaya of decade have worked in Russian State University for the Humanities, and earlier at the Moscow State History and Archives Institute. They have made a powerful contribution to preparation of several generations of experts in the field of the humanities. Article is devoted to the analysis of views of two scientists, in process of development by them of the previous historiographic experience and supervision over changing scientific reality, on a key problem of humanitarian and natural-science knowledge - a historical source as cultural object and object of history of environment, interaction of the person and the nature in historical movement. From definition of historical sources as the material objects created in the course of human activity, to the serving purposes of historical research, obtaining information on the social phenomena and processes, O.M. Medushevskaya has gradually passed to understanding them as real cultural objects which consider from the subject positions natural and the humanities. The concept of a historical source was formed by S.O. Schmidt under the decisive influence of the historical and philosophical-historical concepts of outstanding Russian scientists of the 19th - early 20th centuries, as well as the latest Western European historiography. The formula “historical source-all that exhales historical information”, opened a way to free understanding of a historical material. Historical sources which are really exhaling information on mankind as parts of the nature, allow to find data and on environment history. The co-evolutionary relations of man and nature create the conditions not only for the preservation of civilization in the conditions of the global ecological crisis, but also for ensuring its overcoming. Sources, as direct evidence of these relationships, form a necessary information resource for research activities in the field of environmental history.

The article is about an analysis of the inscriptions on the obelisk of the Nubian king Atlanersa (653–643 BC). The obelisk was found in the Christian church of Dongola and part of the text has been lost. This article attempts to analyze and translate the surviving text on the four sides of the obelisk. In the inscription, all five royal titles of Atlanersa are restored. The author traces the analogies between the inscriptions on the obelisk of Piankhy (titular placement) and the inscription of Atlanersa on the stand for the sacred barque from the temple B 703 (words of Amun of Napata) and comes to the conclusion about the construction of the obelisk by order of Amun of Napata.

The article links the drawing of Martin de Vos (inv. R-7200), in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, with the engraving for which it was a modello. This allows us to identify the hermit as St. Bavo and to date the drawing 1593–1594, thus correcting the previous proposals of 1585/86 or about 1600. The Moscow sheet is one of about 120 drawings created by M. de Vos for five series of engravings depicting pious hermits, which indicates a great interest in this topic at that time Consideration of these series and their further functions reveals their connection with the world of Catholic Europe, the ideas of the Counter-Reformation and the teachings of Ignatius Loyola, which revived the cult of the holy hermits and preached solitude, for reflection and prayer, as a way towards spiritual improvement in accordance with Christian values.
