Hvorfor er der så få kvindelige datalogistuderende

This Master's thesis investigates the reasons why there are so few female students in Computer Science. More specifically, the thesis investigates what attracts both men and women to computer science, on what criterions they base their choice of education, and which pros and cons women experience as a result of their gender during their studies and later in their worklife. Furthermore, the study looks into the assumptions of current students and graduates concerning why so few women are attracted to Computer Science. The reason for investigating this subject is that there is a rising need in Denmark for people with higher education in IT – especially within the traditional, theoretical, mathematical founded fields of education such as Computer Science. Surprisingly few women apply for these fields compared to traditional other scientific ones. The investigation employs qualitatively designed online questionnaires. They are evaluated through Healy and Perry's assessment criterions. The evaluation is extended by Guba and Lincoln's transferability criterion. A total of 139 students, graduates and former participants in it-camp for piger (IT Camp For Girls) responded to the questionnaires. The analysis of their answers shows that on the whole, women are attracted to Computer Science because of its mathematical foundations. It also shows that both men and women presume that the low number of female applicants to Computer Science is caused by various factors including the following ones: the education is dominated by men, prejudices concerning women's technical abilities are prevalent, and the education suffers from a poor image, since computer scientists are pictured as stereotypical geeks spending their life alone at their desk. It might be worthwhile to expand the investigation to include, for instance, respondents from other countries or with another education.

Epiktets filosofiske livskunst som terapeutisk pædagogik

Bogen givet et saerligt indblik i Epiktets filosofiske livskunst som en terapeutisk paedagogik eller paedagogisk terapi. Bogen viser, hvordan Epiktet organiserede filosofien omkring en filosofisk skole, hvis funktion var at vaere terapeutisk klinik for heling af psykiske lidelser. Herefter demonstrerer bogen, hvordan denne paedagogik i praksis bestod af de tre aspekter korrektion, transformation og traening, og at den var struktureret som en saerlig form for filosofiundervisning. Afslutningsvis kastes et udblik til den aktuelle relevans af Epiktets laere i forhold til de eksistentielle udfordringer, som det senmoderne menneske er praeget af.

Formal Study of Moessner's Sieve Moessner筛子的正式研究

In this dissertation, we present a new characterization of Moessner's sieve that brings a range of new results with it. As such, we present a dual to Moessner's sieve that generates a sequence of so-called Moessner triangles, instead of a traditional sequence of successive powers, where each triangle is generated column by column, instead of row by row. Furthermore, we present a new characteristic function of Moessner's sieve that calculates the entries of the Moessner triangles generated by Moessner's sieve, without having to calculate the prefix of the sequence. We prove Moessner's theorem adapted to our new dual sieve, called Moessner's idealized theorem, where we generalize the initial configuration from a sequence of natural numbers to a seed tuple containing just one non-zero entry. We discover a new property of Moessner's sieve that connects Moessner triangles of different rank, thus acting as a dual to the existing relation between Moessner triangles of different index, thereby suggesting the presence of a 2-dimensional grid of triangles, rather than the traditional 1-dimensional sequence of values. We adapt Long's theorem to the dual sieve and obtain a simplified initial configuration of Long's theorem, consisting of a seed tuple of two non-zero entries. We conjecture a new generalization of Long's theorem that has a seed tuple of arbitrary entries for its initial configuration and connects Moessner's sieve with polynomial evaluation. Lastly, we approach the connection between Moessner's sieve and polynomial evaluation from an alternative perspective and prove an equivalence relation between the triangle creation procedures of Moessner's sieve and the repeated application of Horner's method for polynomial division. All results presented in this dissertation have been formalized in the Coq proof assistant and proved using a minimal subset of the constructs and tactics available in the Coq language. As such, we demonstrate the potential of proof assistants to inspire new results while lowering the gap between programs (in computer science) and proofs (in mathematics).

Bogen stiller i den forbindelse skarpt pa sporgsmalet om, hvorvidt og hvordan det giver mening at forsta Deweys paedagogiske filosofi i sammenhaeng med Hellenismens og Romerrigets filosofiske livskunst. Er det med andre ord muligt at begribe Deweys paedagogik som en saerlig form for filosofisk livskunst?

This essay accompanies a selection of 32 articles (referred to in bold face in the text and marginally marked in the bibliographic references) submitted to Aarhus University towards a Doctor Scientiarum degree in Computer Science. The author's previous academic degree, beyond a doctoral degree in June 1986, is an "Habilitation a diriger les recherches" from the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI) in France; the corresponding material was submitted in September 1992 and the degree was obtained in January 1993. The present 32 articles have all been written since 1993 and while at DAIMI. Except for one other PhD student, all co-authors are or have been the author's students here in Aarhus.

"Vi har ikke noget at sige, men vi gør det så koncentreret som muligt" - De Unge Vilde i dansk kunst

”Vi har ikke noget at sige, men vi gor det sa koncentreret som muligt.”Sadan lyder titlen pa en performance, som Performancegruppen VAERST opforte i Galleri Kongo i Kobenhavn i 1985. Det er samtidig et udsagn, der i sin forening af desillusioneret fjollethed og aetsende ironi synes at karakterisere 1980’ernes nye kunstnere meget praecist. For hvad stiller man egentlig op, nar man ikke har noget (nyt) at ytre sig om? De nye kunstnere ophorte i hvert fald ikke med at ytre sig af den grund. Tvaertimod producerede de i lobet af en ganske kort periode fra ca. 1980 til 1986 en lang raekke vaerker og udstillinger, der hurtigt blev defineret som et afgorende nybrud i dansk kunsthistorie.Afhandlingen tager udgangspunkt i dette nybrud, der i dansk kunsthistorie oftest karakteriseres som De Unge Vilde eller De Nye Vilde. Skont 1980’ernes nye kunstnere ofte forst og fremmest forbindes med en genkomst for det ekspressive maleri, soger jeg i afhandlingen at afdaekke bredden i De Unge Vildes kunstneriske aktiviteter – der foruden maleri ogsa taeller performance, film, skulptur, kunstnerboger med mere.Afhandlingens praemis er, at De Unge Vildes vaerker pa en gang er udtryk for bevidst strategi og ubevidst visuel afsmitning, og at deres vaerker saledes er ’klogere’ end kunstnerne selv og kan bruges til at gore os klogere pa den tid, de er skabt i.Afhandlingen er bygget op om en introduktion efterfulgt af tre hovedkapitler:Introduktionen praesenterer de vigtigste grupperinger af unge vilde kunstnere i start-80’ernes Danmark. Jeg introducerer desuden til paradigmeteori og til den forestilling om tidsand, der fra og med Zeitgeist-udstillingen i Berlin i 1982 bliver et tema i 80’erne. I introduktionen praesenterer jeg desuden nogle forbehold i forhold til den historieskrivning, der indtil nu har pagaet om De Unge Vilde, og som blandt andet er baret oppe af en noget anekdotisk tilgang til periodens dyrkelse af den nye generation. Introduktionen er ment som et oplaeg til de hovedpointer, der udfoldes i gennem afhandlingen:-          At De Unge Vilde for det forste indvarsler et paradigmeskift i dansk kunsthistorie, der abner for et mere mangfoldigt kunstbegreb som afloser for et avantgardistisk kunstbegreb.-          At De Unge Vilde for det andet mobiliserer dette paradigmeskift gennem en raekke destruktive og negerende greb, der i forste omgang ligner det endelige dodsstod for kunsten men reelt muliggor dens genopstandelse.-          Og at De Unge Vilde for det tredje traekker pa en del af avantgardens metoder og strategier i deres fornyelse af kunstscenen – vaek fra det avantgardistiske kunstbegreb.Det forste hovedkapitel omhandler De Unge Vildes forhold til det postmoderne og postmodernistiske. Det er samtidig et udsagn, der i sin forening af desillusioneret fjollethed og aetsende ironi synes at karakterisere 1980’ernes nye kunstnere meget praecist. For hvad stiller man egentlig op, nar man ikke har noget (nyt) at ytre sig om? De nye kunstnere ophorte i hvert fald ikke med at ytre sig af den grund. Tvaertimod producerede de i lobet af en ganske kort periode fra ca. 1980 til 1986 en lang raekke vaerker og udstillinger, der hurtigt blev defineret som et afgorende nybrud i dansk kunsthistorie.Afhandlingen tager udgangspunkt i dette nybrud, der i dansk kunsthistorie oftest karakteriseres som De Unge Vilde eller De Nye Vilde. Skont 1980’ernes nye kunstnere ofte forst og fremmest forbindes med en genkomst for det ekspressive maleri, soger jeg i afhandlingen at afdaekke bredden i De Unge Vildes kunstneriske aktiviteter – der foruden maleri ogsa taeller performance, film, skulptur, kunstnerboger med mere.Afhandlingens praemis er, at De Unge Vildes vaerker pa en gang er udtryk for bevidst strategi og ubevidst visuel afsmitning, og at deres vaerker saledes er ’klogere’ end kunstnerne selv og kan bruges til at gore os klogere pa den tid, de er skabt i.Afhandlingen er bygget op om en introduktion efterfulgt af tre hovedkapitler:Introduktionen praesenterer de vigtigste grupperinger af unge vilde kunstnere i start-80’ernes Danmark. Jeg introducerer desuden til paradigmeteori og til den forestilling om tidsand, der fra og med Zeitgeist-udstillingen i Berlin i 1982 bliver et tema i 80’erne. I introduktionen praesenterer jeg desuden nogle forbehold i forhold til den historieskrivning, der indtil nu har pagaet om De Unge Vilde, og som blandt andet er baret oppe af en noget anekdotisk tilgang til periodens dyrkelse af den nye generation. Singular Choices for Multiple Choice 选择题的单选题

We revisit and evolve Frandsen and Schwartzbach's axiomatic scoring strategy for multiple-choice exams that credits partial knowledge and levels out guessing. The evolved scoring strategy equalizes the implicit weight of each question by default and makes this weight an optional parameter for each question. Partial credit can also be modulated, which provides a measure of the spread of knowledge of the examinee. Based on a decade of experience in a first-year university course, we find the evolved exams to be more understandable and predictible both for the examiner and for the examinees. Finally, we present a family of scoring functions that fit the model.

Sieving and sedimentation analyses by pipette or hydrometer are historically the traditional methods for determining particle size distributions (PSD). A more informative and faster alternative has for years been laser diffraction (LD). From 2003 to 2013 the authors of this paper have worked intensively with PSD and performed various tests and investigations, using LD, sedimentation (by pipette) and sieving. The aim was to improve and understand the relationship between these various techniques, pre-treatment effects and preferably find a unifying correlation factor. As a result, method comparisons of LD and sieving/sedimentation are difficult, as LD is a 3D optical volume measurement, sieving is a 2D width measurement, and sedimentation is density dependent. Platy particles like clay are generally measured to be coarser than traditional methods when LD is used. For LD the clay-boundary is found at 6 μm. For LD, it seems beneficial to split a soil or sediment sample (<2 mm) into 3 fractions at 63 μm and 250 μm respectively. Well sorted samples (like clay, fine silt or windblown sand) can be measured without splitting into fractions, or by splitting at i.e. 63 μm, depending on the clay content and expected PSD.
