This Master's thesis investigates the reasons why there are so few female students in Computer Science. More specifically, the thesis investigates what attracts both men and women to computer science, on what criterions they base their choice of education, and which pros and cons women experience as a result of their gender during their studies and later in their worklife. Furthermore, the study looks into the assumptions of current students and graduates concerning why so few women are attracted to Computer Science. The reason for investigating this subject is that there is a rising need in Denmark for people with higher education in IT – especially within the traditional, theoretical, mathematical founded fields of education such as Computer Science. Surprisingly few women apply for these fields compared to traditional other scientific ones. The investigation employs qualitatively designed online questionnaires. They are evaluated through Healy and Perry's assessment criterions. The evaluation is extended by Guba and Lincoln's transferability criterion. A total of 139 students, graduates and former participants in it-camp for piger (IT Camp For Girls) responded to the questionnaires. The analysis of their answers shows that on the whole, women are attracted to Computer Science because of its mathematical foundations. It also shows that both men and women presume that the low number of female applicants to Computer Science is caused by various factors including the following ones: the education is dominated by men, prejudices concerning women's technical abilities are prevalent, and the education suffers from a poor image, since computer scientists are pictured as stereotypical geeks spending their life alone at their desk. It might be worthwhile to expand the investigation to include, for instance, respondents from other countries or with another education.

In this dissertation, we present a new characterization of Moessner's sieve that brings a range of new results with it. As such, we present a dual to Moessner's sieve that generates a sequence of so-called Moessner triangles, instead of a traditional sequence of successive powers, where each triangle is generated column by column, instead of row by row. Furthermore, we present a new characteristic function of Moessner's sieve that calculates the entries of the Moessner triangles generated by Moessner's sieve, without having to calculate the prefix of the sequence. We prove Moessner's theorem adapted to our new dual sieve, called Moessner's idealized theorem, where we generalize the initial configuration from a sequence of natural numbers to a seed tuple containing just one non-zero entry. We discover a new property of Moessner's sieve that connects Moessner triangles of different rank, thus acting as a dual to the existing relation between Moessner triangles of different index, thereby suggesting the presence of a 2-dimensional grid of triangles, rather than the traditional 1-dimensional sequence of values. We adapt Long's theorem to the dual sieve and obtain a simplified initial configuration of Long's theorem, consisting of a seed tuple of two non-zero entries. We conjecture a new generalization of Long's theorem that has a seed tuple of arbitrary entries for its initial configuration and connects Moessner's sieve with polynomial evaluation. Lastly, we approach the connection between Moessner's sieve and polynomial evaluation from an alternative perspective and prove an equivalence relation between the triangle creation procedures of Moessner's sieve and the repeated application of Horner's method for polynomial division. All results presented in this dissertation have been formalized in the Coq proof assistant and proved using a minimal subset of the constructs and tactics available in the Coq language. As such, we demonstrate the potential of proof assistants to inspire new results while lowering the gap between programs (in computer science) and proofs (in mathematics).

We revisit and evolve Frandsen and Schwartzbach's axiomatic scoring strategy for multiple-choice exams that credits partial knowledge and levels out guessing. The evolved scoring strategy equalizes the implicit weight of each question by default and makes this weight an optional parameter for each question. Partial credit can also be modulated, which provides a measure of the spread of knowledge of the examinee. Based on a decade of experience in a first-year university course, we find the evolved exams to be more understandable and predictible both for the examiner and for the examinees. Finally, we present a family of scoring functions that fit the model.

Sieving and sedimentation analyses by pipette or hydrometer are historically the traditional methods for determining particle size distributions (PSD). A more informative and faster alternative has for years been laser diffraction (LD). From 2003 to 2013 the authors of this paper have worked intensively with PSD and performed various tests and investigations, using LD, sedimentation (by pipette) and sieving. The aim was to improve and understand the relationship between these various techniques, pre-treatment effects and preferably find a unifying correlation factor. As a result, method comparisons of LD and sieving/sedimentation are difficult, as LD is a 3D optical volume measurement, sieving is a 2D width measurement, and sedimentation is density dependent. Platy particles like clay are generally measured to be coarser than traditional methods when LD is used. For LD the clay-boundary is found at 6 μm. For LD, it seems beneficial to split a soil or sediment sample (<2 mm) into 3 fractions at 63 μm and 250 μm respectively. Well sorted samples (like clay, fine silt or windblown sand) can be measured without splitting into fractions, or by splitting at i.e. 63 μm, depending on the clay content and expected PSD.

Dalsgaard","doi":"10.7146/AUL.205.148","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7146/AUL.205.148","url":null,"abstract":"Sieving and sedimentation analyses by pipette or hydrometer are historically the traditional methods for determining particle size distributions (PSD). A more informative and faster alternative has for years been laser diffraction (LD). From 2003 to 2013 the authors of this paper have worked intensively with PSD and performed various tests and investigations, using LD, sedimentation (by pipette) and sieving. The aim was to improve and understand the relationship between these various techniques, pre-treatment effects and preferably find a unifying correlation factor. As a result, method comparisons of LD and sieving/sedimentation are difficult, as LD is a 3D optical volume measurement, sieving is a 2D width measurement, and sedimentation is density dependent. Platy particles like clay are generally measured to be coarser than traditional methods when LD is used. For LD the clay-boundary is found at 6 μm. For LD, it seems beneficial to split a soil or sediment sample (<2 mm) into 3 fractions at 63 μm and 250 μm respectively. Formalet med den arkaeologiske forundersogelse pa matrikel 2n var at tilvejebringe viden om, hvorvidt der var bevarede spor af bronze- jernalderbebyggelse, som kunne saettes i forbindelse med de registrerede oldtidsagre i Boes Skov, om en lokal forhojning var rester af en nedplojet gravhoj, samt i hvilket omfang disse spor er truet af dyrkning. Pa sigt er det meningen at lokaliteten kunne anvendes til uddannelsesudgravning for studerende ved Aarhus Universitet.

Arbejdererindringer i AarhusDu finder her en raekke af bogudgivelser, der har afsaet i indsamling af arbejderes livshistoriske fortaellinger i Arbejdererindringer i Aarhus.De fleste af dem er tematiserede redigeringer af livshistoriske fortaellinger knyttet til forskellige fagomrader og arbejdspladser. Alle spaender de over forandringer gennem tid i samfundet, arbejdsomrader og fag.Bogen Fortaelling og fortaellere rummer en raekke artikler, hvor erkendelsen af de metodiske og paedagogiske laereprocesser, som forbinder sig med de enkelte projekter, udvindes. De henvender sig ikke mindst til forskere og formidlere inden for arbejderhistorie og mundtlig historie nationalt og i visse tilfaelde ogsa internationalt. Hertil kommer ph.d.-afhandlingen Sa mange beretninger. Sa mange sporgsmal, hvori der ogsa indgar en samlet oversigt over de mange ars projekter med tilhorende formidlinger blandt andre i form af boger.De livshistoriske fortaellinger, som bogerne bygger pa, er tilgaengelige digitalt pa dansklyd.statsbiblioteket.dk. Elektroniske ordrette bandudskrifter af fortaellingerne er tilgaengelige pa Statens Mediesamling, Statsbiblioteket.De ordrette bandudskrifter pa print og portraetfotos af fortaellerne er desuden tilgaengelige pa Arbejdermuseet/Arbejderbevaegelsens Bibliotek og Arkiv i Kobenhavn sammen med selve projektarkivet (1982-2005) og alle bogudgivelser.
