Les anthropologues ont longtemps ete impregnes d’un certain atheisme methodologique lorsqu’il s’agissait d’etudier les religions lointaines des « autres ». Or, une telle approche ne semble plus adaptee au genre de terrains realise aujourd’hui. Nous examinons brievement les causes de ce « glissement tectonique » au sein de l’anthropologie, ainsi que ses consequences pour les terrains religieux. Ensuite, nous explorons les nouvelles possibilites qu’offre l’emergence de ce que certains qualifient d’anthropologie « post-seculiere », dont un nouveau dialogue avec la theologie.

La pratique interdisciplinaire pour trouver des solutions aux problemes de developpement en Afrique est pronee par plus d’un penseur. Et le sociologue et theologien camerounais Jean-Marc Ela, d’heureuse memoire, fait partie de ceux-la. En effet, chez lui, sociologie (sciences sociales) et theologie sont deux disciplines qui s’appellent, s’interpellent et se completent. La connaissance et la pratique de la sociologie quotidienne deviennent, pour lui, une voie d’evangelisation, de developpement et de liberation du peuple africain. Cet article developpe donc la maniere dont les deux sciences entrent en dialogue. En outre, il veut repondre a la preoccupation de la reception de la riche pensee de Jean-Marc Ela et de son infatigable engagement, au moment ou nous celebrons le dixieme anniversaire de sa mort.

This article traces the association between wisdom and the fear of God in two encyclopedias of science that circulated in medieval Iberia: Enumeration of the Sciences by al-F ā r ā b ī and The Foundations of Intelligence and the Tower of Faith by Bar Ḥ iyya. It o ff ers insight into the polemical reception of al-F ā r ā b ī 's work in the Iberian Peninsula; an analysis of Bar Ḥ iyya's introduction to his encyclopedia, in which the fear of God occupies a central place; and an analysis of the epilogue of the only Andalusian manuscript that preserves al-F ā r ā b ī ’s Enumeration, which also emphasizes the fear of God. The article argues that al-F ā r ā b ī 's rather scandalous reputation in al-Andalus could explain the framing of his classi fi cation of the sciences, and those inspired by it, with pious considerations on the fear of God as a necessary condition to the study of science.

Cet article propose d’explorer l’importance du phenomene religieux comme vecteur de comprehension du monde medieval. Dans une perspective d’enrichissement de l’echange entre les disciplines interessees par le phenomene religieux, il souhaite familiariser les etudiants et les chercheurs en dehors du champ de l’histoire medievale avec quelques tendances passees et actuelles de la recherche, notamment des travaux interesses par une etude du religieux a l’intersection du politique et du social. En complement de ces observations preliminaires, l’article trace quelques pistes de reflexion pour les champs de recherche de l’hagiographie et de l’histoire du culte des saints et celui de l’histoire de la liturgie, en focalisant sur le haut Moyen Âge occidental.
