Many educators have recognized that a teacher-centered approach to teaching and learning frequently results in students becoming passive in the classroom. The flipped education model has resulted in students becoming more motivated and participating in the classroom, particularly in English (Doman & Webb, 2017). In addition, in a flipped university English classroom, the teacher as a leader can first stimulate students’ interest in the flipped classroom; set motivational goals to stimulate students’ interest in learning the language; set specific and manageable goals, plans, requirements, and assessment criteria; provide personalized guidance to students; set an example for students through the teacher’s own behavior; and create a pleasant and relaxed learning environment (Suo & Hou, 2017). All of these changes in teaching styles reflect the transformational leadership of teachers in the classroom, while this change in classroom paradigm has also influenced university students’ learning of English.

This study employed Dynamic Systems Theory to investigate the Listening Comprehension Difficulties (LCD) trajectories of two EFL learners. Through a longitudinal case study spanning a semester, LCD in five listening tasks was assessed using four indicators: vocabulary difficulties, familiar word difficulties, weak form difficulties, and chunk difficulties. Key findings included: 1) distinct nonlinear and intricate trajectories were observed for both learners, diverging from group averages; 2) semi-structured interview showed that individual pathways were influenced by interwoven factors including environmental variables (language policy, linguistic milieu, learning environment, etc.), linguistic factors (task complexity, language apprehension, native language transfer, etc.), and individual differences (e.g., self-regulation strategies, language anxiety, etc.).

African names are reflections of many factors at work, because beyond the fact that they identity symbols, the indigenous Nigerian Society believes that names shape a person’s character, mold their social identity and even influence an individual’s destiny. This explains why this study examined the peculiarities associated with most Nigerian indigenous names, focusing especially on the syntactic features of these names. The names used in this study were drawn from the two major Nigerian Languages of Yoruba and Igbo, and the third language, is the Edo Language of the Benin Kingdom. Consequently, when these names were translated into the English Language, using the parsing tools of Systemic Grammar of S- Subject, P- Predicator, C- Complement and A- Adjunct, the findings revealed that while most Nigerian indigenous names are singular words in their native entities, when these names are translated into English Language and analysed, they are complete sentences in the shape of subject, predicator and complement or subject, predicator and adjunct, in some cases a subject and a predicator. The findings buttress the fact that Nigerian indigenous names are classics, because they are like film – reels that reveal the cosmopolitan world view of the Nigerian indigenous societies. This highlights why these meanings are connotatively metaphoric, because a peoples thought, experience and what they do every day is very much a matter of metaphor (Lakoff and Johnson 1980: 3).

The Sound and the Fury, a long stream-of-consciousness novel written by American writer William Faulkner, mainly depicts a girl’s gradual degradation. This degradation emblems the decline of the Compson family and the collapse of the old moral order of southern American society in the first half of the twentieth century. This paper aims to analyze the olfactory narrative from the perspective of unnatural narratology. Firstly, it interprets the cultural symbolic meanings of the most representative odors in Caddy’s two different stages by employing unnatural narratology theory. Secondly, it explores the role of the olfactory narrative in the creation of Caddy’s image throughout this novel. This paper argues that the olfactory narrative endows Caddy with implicit cultural implications, pushes the plot of Caddy’s destiny forward, and enhances the narrative effect of this novel.

Incorporating external feedback from target readers, the study also investigates the reception of Lotus Huang and identifies external factors influencing the image reshaping. The findings reveal that translators skillfully use techniques like amplification and omission to successfully reconstruct Huang as a spirited, principled, daring, and intelligent female knight-errant. However, variations are observed in certain features, such as her devotion to Guo Jing, which seem to be influenced by translators’ opinions on female characters and modern readers’ preferences. Despite these variations, the study highlights the positive reception of Lotus Huang among the target readers, indicating the successful dissemination effects.

With the development of China’s digital economy, the corporate image of Chinese Internet enterprise has also become a focus of academic attention. In order to study the corporate image of Chinese Internet enterprises in the digital economy period, this paper takes Alibaba, a leading Chinese Internet enterprise, as the research object. This paper establishes Chinese News Corpus and English News Corpus and analyze characteristics of lexical collocation, concordance line and semantic prosody. It is found that by categorizing Alibaba’s strong collocations, the images of Alibaba’s enterprises that Chinese and American newspapers focus on include the image of the enterprise’s workers, products, services. It is concluded that the image of Alibaba’s employees has a positive influence in Chinese newspapers, while the image in American newspapers is more negative, including sexism. The image of Taobao, Alibaba’s main product, is a platform that contributes to raises the income of the rural population in the Chinese newspaper, while it is a platform for fake products in the American newspaper. Alibaba’s services are portrayed in the Chinese newspaper as diverse services platform and a provider of digital solutions for China’s smart cities, but in the U.S. press as a monopolistic platform subject to the Chinese government.

Cultural translatability has long been a hot but mysterious topic in translation academia. Lefevere, as one of the major figures of “cultural turn” in translation studies, investigated translation from socio-cultural perspective and stressed the extra-textual constraints on cultural translation. However, most studies have focused on the major four manipulations and neglected the other specific elements that hinder cultural translation. Nickname in Shuihuzhuan, originated from historical figures, anecdotes, legends, weapons, dialects, and other cultural elements, has revealed its research value in literary translation and cultural transmission. Therefore, this paper intends to take nickname translation in Shuihuzhuan as examples, analyzes those specific cultural elements, and carries out some translation strategies and cultural strategies to deal with them. Though the paper is aimed at discussing the cultural translation by using texts in Shuihuzhuan, the conclusion is applicable to all literature works.

Therefore, this paper intends to take nickname translation in Shuihuzhuan as examples, analyzes those specific cultural elements, and carries out some translation strategies and cultural strategies to deal with them.
