Various abbreviations in electric power terminology are widely used in technical documentation and professional communication. The paper presents the results of the analysis of specific details, ways of formation and translation of abbreviations within the relevant terminological area. The quantative and semantic methods of analysis have been used in the research. Out of dictionaries, standards, the industry journal and technical documentation English and Russian abbreviations were selected to serve as a basis for generalizing some of their patterns and difficulties of use. The research showed that initialisms are the most frequently used type of abbreviations in electric power terminology. The study resulted in compiling the glossary of English and Russian abbreviations that may be used for translating texts of this specialized field.

The paper deals with a linguistic analysis of evaluative worldview including values, norms and customs described as a hierarchy of cognitive formats and behavioral dispositions in typical communicative situations. Norms reflect the system of axiogenic situations (axiologically relevant reality), they are fixed in the meaning of sentences, phrases and words. The two-dimensional model of behavioral norms discussed in the article includes values as sets of supermoral, moral, utilitarian and subutilitarian orientations, on the one hand, and universal, civilizational, ethnic, macroand microgroup behavioral priorities, on the other hand. Types of norms are analyzed on the material of Russian and English proverbs and nouns with a pejorative

The article presents the analysis of specific features of translation of terms and terminological word-combination in aviation texts on mooring and towing. The work describes problems connected with translation of word combinations denoting structural elements of mooring and towing equipment. The research was carried out together with specialists of UAC Company. In the process of the research the authors worked out an algorithm of work with difficult and polysemantic aerocosmic sphere terms including the terms which have not been included into the dictionaries.

The article analyzes “the man” as the basic concept of a number of humanities – from philosophy, psychology, cultural studies and linguistics to sociology, anthropology, ethnography and other sciences. The article shows that without the content analysis, it is impossible to make an adequate description of a person, his consciousness, culture and language. Thus, it is precisely linguistic studies that can clarify a lot in human knowledge.
