The absence of a competency profile in radio and television systems maintenance is responsible for the NDE Skills Acquisition Centres in Nigeria using a training manual, which contains a few competencies for the training and assessment of students. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop and validate a competency profile in radio and television systems maintenance for use as a guide in developing a curriculum for the centres. The study adopted educational research and development design employing DACUM model to develop a draft competency profile. The draft profile was produced by 9 technicians and lecturers through task analysis at a 2-day workshop in Kaduna. Thereafter, it was transformed into an 83-item questionnaire which was content validated by three experts and its internal consistency was determined through a pilot test and the data generated were analysed using Cronbach alpha and found to be 0.91. 40 Copies of the questionnaire were distributed to and retrieved from 40 master craft persons teaching at the NDE Skills Acquisition centres in North Central Nigeria. The Data generated were analysed using percentage and factor analysis. The study found out that 6 major tasks and 83 specific competencies were appropriate for use in training and assessment. Based on these findings, it was recommended that the National Directorate of Employment should organise a workshop to develop a competency-based curriculum and assessment instrument to improve the training in radio and television systems maintenance at the centres.

The use of medicinal herbs for the treatment of various diseases of man is dated back to the pre-scientific era. Informed knowledge by the users and various medicinal plant advocates has been the major hitch in the practice and administration of herbal medicine. This work compared the active ingredients in the leaves of two common anti-cancer botanicals (Vachellia tortilis and Bambusa vulgaris) in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The ethnobotanical survey was carried out through visits to medicinal plant users such as native doctors, farmers, herbalists and medicinal plant dealers within the State. 10g of sample of each medicinal plant measured into the amber bottle with the addition of 20 ml methanol was subjected to High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), a method used to separate a mixture of complex samples. Results of the phytochemical analysis revealed Tyranton as the highest phytochemical extract cytotoxic effects towards human carcinoma cells. Vachellia tortilis and Bambusa vulgaris extracts are very useful in the utilization of anti-carcinogenic and anti-inflammatory. These can be recommended to medicinal plant users as being effective against the aforementioned ailments.

Vowel epenthesis processes vary in their characteristics, and many aspects of their typology are still under continuous study even in English, wherein a lot of academic work has been done, much less so in Yoruba and other African languages where a large part of academic research on the phenomenon is still evolving. The focus of this work is on the identification of form and pattern as well as on the diversity of vowel epenthesis processes in loanwords in Yoruba language. The work also attempts to identify the functions performed by epenthetic vowels in ensuring the complete adaptability of loanwords into the language by examining nature and processes. In addition to identifying and classifying vowel epenthesis as it appears in Yoruba loanwords, this work also examined some empirical questions on the causes and functions of vowel epenthesis, as well as the location and quality of epenthetic vowels in Yoruba loanwords. This study revealed that vowel epenthesis processes in Yoruba loanwords are diverse in nature, functions and position.

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced on 26 October 2022 the re-design of three out of the eight banknotes in circulation. The move is geared towards entrenching the cashless economy agenda. According to CBN, over 85% of the currency in circulation is kept outside the vaults of commercial banks, and ransom-taking in Nigeria needs to be addressed urgently. This Paper attempts to look at this new policy from the lens of the law, using the doctrinal method of research methodology. The timing, which was very close to the general elections, was wrong, and the three months time frame given to people to swap old notes with new ones was too short. Also, CBN acted in contravention of the Money Laundering Act 2022. The Paper recommends that for the cashless policy to be successful, the e-payment system needs to be upgraded in Nigeria.

It is trite law that the ultimate goal of a truly democratic nation is to conduct credible, free and fair elections. It is indeed one of the major challenges of the democratization process in a given nation. However, Nigeria is not known to have conducted elections devoid of rigging, vote buying, a re-run of elections, irregularities, malpractices, declaration of the election as inconclusive, etc. Thus, the issues bordering on reform of the electoral system, including the legal framework of the electoral process that will ensure substantial free and fair elections that meet the minimum standard of acceptable democratic elections, cannot but remain an essential goal of democracy in Nigeria. Under such circumstances, the Nigerian Government enacted Electoral Act 2022, introducing new changes such as using card readers and other technological devices, reducing campaign expenses by the political parties, a timeline for submitting lists of candidates, and criteria for substitution of candidates, amongst others. To this end, this paper, while adopting analytical research methodology, examines the Electoral Act 2022 and its innovations as a curse or blessing towards 2023 general elections in Nigeria. The paper revealed that the Act has regulated some unforeseen circumstances noticed in the previous elections, which necessitate post-election litigations across the country and suggests a way forward towards 2023 general election and beyond to meet the minimum standard of acceptable democratic elections.

A rectangular slab stiffened by ribs oriented perpendicular to the support of the slab as structurally equivalent to an orthotropic plate has been analyzed using the finite strip method. The analytic formulation was obtained from the governing equation of motion of the plate using the classical plate theory to an arbitrary boundary and initial condition. The stiffness formulation from total internal energy was considered. The force-displacement equation technique by applying stiffness and uniformly distributed loading was used to obtain the modal solution and hence, displacement at an arbitrary point of the plate for the assumed harmonic function. Approximate stresses following the displacement are also obtained. The comparative solution of the equilibrium differential equation is obtained by means of convergent series expansions of levy plates and the application of Timoshenko and Woinowsky-Krieger averaging of bending rigidity, utilizing suitable orthogonal displacement functions. A computer procedure based on the finite strip method is given through the application of numerical examples, which shows that the procedure provides good results, especially with low discretization and computational effort.

Nigeria today is in a depressed economy because the tool that is needed to revamp the economy is being looked down upon, meaning the government of today has lukewarm attitudes towards Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), not taking note that the development of any nation is based in her economic, industrial and technological advancement. The study investigates the effectiveness of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) on self-employed youths for sustainable skills empowerment in a knowledge-based economy in Lagos State. The study adopted a descriptive survey method. The population of the study was 60 students (30 undergraduates and 30 postgraduates, respectively). 60 questionnaire items were used, but 58 were retrieved, comprising 32 undergraduate and 26 postgraduate students. One research question and one hypothesis guided the study. The paper identifies the effectiveness of TVET and factors that inhibit its relevance on self-employed youths for sustainable skills empowerment in a knowledge-based economy. The study concluded, among others, that government and other stakeholders must provide an enabling environment for quality instructional delivery and TVET should be given utmost priority, having in mind the future consequences and the task ahead for sustainable youth skill empowerment in a knowledge-based economy, among others.

This study looks into how Blockchain technology can be used to establish a decentralised method to book publishing. Traditional publishing strategies can present authors with obstacles such as limited control over their work, money processing issues, and limited access to distribution outlets. The decentralised model afforded by Blockchain technology, on the other hand, has the potential to give authors more control over their work, smoother payment processing, and more distribution channels. The study investigates the advantages and disadvantages of employing Blockchain technology in book publishing and the possible impact on the sector as a whole. The study also includes a prototype of a decentralised publishing platform based on Blockchain technology, which allows authors to upload their work directly to the platform, receive real-time payment, and experience a more transparent and equitable publication process. The front-end of the platform was built with javascript. While writing the smart contract, solidity was employed. According to the findings of this study, Blockchain technology has the potential to transform the book publishing industry by empowering authors and boosting transparency and justice in the publication process.

The profitability of contrarian and momentum strategies has been the subject of numerous research studies. In this paper, we have evaluated the presence of the momentum and the contrarian strategies in the Brazilian and Istanbul stock exchanges and aim to assess which of the strategies is most profitable for the investors. This study is done to provide investors and the research area with updated, pertinent results and help the process of decision-making at different time horizons. A quantitative study following Jegadeesh and Titman's (1993) approach is employed. The study is conducted over two-time horizons: short- and long-term, 2 and 8 years, respectively. The findings of the empirical study have shown the effective existence of the momentum strategy and the contrarian strategy in selected Stock Markets. Also, the findings demonstrate that momentum strategies are ideal for generating a maximum positive return in the long term in BIST 100, while the contrarian strategies are more exhibited in the short term for BOVESPA and the long-term trend.

Also, the findings demonstrate that momentum strategies are ideal for generating a maximum positive return in the long term in BIST 100, while the contrarian strategies are more exhibited in the short term for BOVESPA and the long-term trend.","PeriodicalId":14101,"journal":{"name":"International journal of innovative research and development","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135315006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
