This paper proposes a new approach for direct torque control (DTC) based on fuzzy logic concept The developed fuzzy logic controller (FDTC) uses mainly the inputoutput data. Its real-time implementation is described and experimental and simulation results are compared. Sufficient agreement between the two results has been obtained.

Using the Park equations and considering speed governor and excitation regulation, this paper simulates the process of asynchronous generator under low excitation and loss of field. Experimental results verify the mathematical model and the simulation results. Further, according to the values calculated under low excitation, such as voltage, current, speed and power angle, the general movement trend and frequency are discussed.

A substantial portion of squirrel cage induction motor faults is rotor related. An accurate transient model of squirrel cage induction machines under rotor faults is presented. A coupled magnetic circuits approach is used and very few restrictive assumptions are made. All parameters are calculated from the actual geometry and winding layout of the machines rather than from transformed or equivalent variables. The detailed depiction of the procedure needed to implement such an accurate model with simulation results is the subject of this paper.

This paper puts forward a developed scheme against the deficiencies of the out-of-step protection based on the three-impedance element principle, which is widely applied at present. Compared with the original scheme, the developed scheme can predict the out-of-step caused by steady stability disruption or transient instability by using the least square method in advance and monitor the limit of steady stability. So the performance of the out of step protection is improved. The paper gives the whole developed protection scheme. The results of dynamic simulation experiments verify the scheme.

The winding insulation of low-voltage induction motors in adjustable-speed drive system with voltage-fed inverters is substantially stressed due to the uneven voltage distribution and excessive voltage stress (dv/dt), which result in the premature insulation breakdown. This paper describes test results of the insulation characteristics from 20 HP, 380 V induction motors for inverter applications. Five different types of insulation techniques are applied to 19 induction motors. The insulation characteristics are compared to partial discharge, capacitance, AC current, and dissipation factor tests. Also, the insulation breakdown tests by high voltage pulses are performed, and the corresponding breakdown voltages are obtained.

Nowadays on-line monitoring scheme with trending technique is widely adopted in insulation diagnosis. In this paper, two types of online monitoring instrumentation for an insulation diagnosis are proposed. The first unit obtains the parameters such as partial discharge magnitude and dynamic stagnation voltage (DSV) in selected frequency bands. The partial discharge activities can be interpreted more precisely by these techniques. The second one indicates the partial discharge spectra in reduced time resolution with lower cost. Several online sensors for partial discharges monitoring are also introduced.

This paper proposes a novel circuit of DC-rail parallel resonant zero voltage transition voltage-source inverter (DC-Rail PR ZVT VSI) for three-phase motor drive. In this circuit all switches are turned on or turned off under the zero voltage switching (ZVS) or zero current switching (ZCS) without high stress of voltage and current. Power ratings of the resonant components and auxiliary switches required are small. The control scheme is simple and less dependant on load current This paper gives details of the theoretical analysis, the rules of selecting the auxiliary switches and the commutation components and the control strategy of the proposed circuits. Finally, the validity and the efficiency of the circuit are tested and verified by experiment results. Some questions in practical application are discussed.

The rotor structural design and anti-demagnetization method are studied on the 1120 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) in the design and manufacturing process in this paper. The rotor structure, which has the merits of sufficient anti-demagnetization and strong rigidity, is designed. Design and manufacture of the motor has been worked out.

A new reduced-order extended Kalman filter to estimate the rotor flux components and speed of an induction machine for speed sensorless vector control is proposed. With this method, two rotor flux components are selected as the state variables, and the rotor speed as an estimated parameter is regarded as an augmented state variable. The algorithm with reduced order decreases the computational complexity and makes the proposed estimator feasible to be implemented in real time. The simulation results show high accuracy of the estimation algorithm, and verify the usefulness of the proposed algorithm.

This paper presents a novel method to estimate the rotor flux position of an induction machine by injecting a high frequency signal at very low speed, including zero speed. When the high frequency fluctuating signal is injected in the terminal of an induction machine, the difference of impedance between the d-axis and q-axis of the synchronous rotating reference frame can be measured. This phenomenon is explained by a high frequency model of the induction machine, which is oriented with a high frequency signal space vector. The rotor flux angle can thus be tracked by tuning the space vector of the high frequency signal. Experimental results are provided to verify that this algorithm is robust against parameters variations and load changes.
