A novel current chopping strategy for a switched reluctance generator (SRG), a full conducted current chopping (FCCC) scheme, is presented in this paper. According to the characteristics of the phase current waveform of SRG generating operation, it can generate under sensorless conditions without additional circuitry or position signal algorithms. Simulation demonstrates the feasibility of this scheme in detail. Experimental results of a 6 kW 6/4 configuration SRG shows its simplicity and high reliability with little decrease in efficiency.

To ensure uniform line arrangement and line tension in the line winding process of automobile belt manufacture, a new microcomputer drive system has been developed. It includes an industrial PC, a shaft speed modulating system using an inverter, a step-motor control system for synchronous linear movement of line wheel and a line tension control system. Through algorithms and programs, it can realize all control actions, and data recording, retrieving and printing.

By analyzing the sensitivity and its influencing factors of stator earth-fault protection by injecting a 20 Hz signal, this paper puts forward an improved generator protection scheme based on the impedance angle and its mutation component. The simulation results verify this kind of protection scheme has higher reliability and sensitivity under generator neutral grounding through a distribution transformer with a secondary resistor and arc-extinguishing coil compared with the conventional criterion. Against different grounding modes, the sensitivity of the protection scheme is further improved by correspondingly adjusting the frequency of the injected signal.

The permanent magnet actuator (PMA) is a new drive system for vacuum switches, it is the key technology to the transformation from mechanic driver to electronic driver. After discussion on the concept of an electronic driver, an equivalent circuit of a typical PMA is given first, an optimized energizing current is proposed, that needs a minimum pulsed power source. Then the reliability of a PMA system is discussed.

This paper addresses the modeling and simulation of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) supplied from a six-step continuous inverter based on the state-space method. Two transformations of reference frame are used and the method on deciding the initial conditions is presented. The results obtained show that the method is very effective.

This paper presents the configuration and mathematical model of (single-frame and self-cascaded) brushless doubly-fed AC excited induction machines (BDFAEIMs). On the basis of the mathematical model of BDFAEIMs and the control algorithm of their control system, numerical simulation (with C++ language development environment) is made in order to get a valid conclusion. From the simulation results, it can be seen that field-oriented vector control algorithm of utility supply is suitable for the brushless doubly-fed AC excited induction machine drive control system to meet its dynamic and static performances. Finally, a control system which consists of over fifty printed circuit boards (single height of European standards) is made and the laboratory results conforms with the above-mentioned control algorithm and computer simulation.

The general mathematical model of SEIG under unbalanced conditions was presented in this paper. The model is derived from using symmetrical components theory and the sequence equivalent circuits of the generator. The method avoids lengthy and tedious algebraic derivations. Performance characteristics of a SEIG under unbalanced conditions were analyzed. There is a good agreement between the calculated and experimental measured values.

Many self-contained electrical systems require simultaneous AC and DC power supply. The hybrid AC-DC supply generator (HADSG) is a good solution. Several independent Y-connected windings are equipped on the stator of HADSG, one delivers AC power and the others, termed DC windings, are connected to the bridge rectifier. Methods of parameter measurement considering DC winding resistances are presented for a typical HADSG with a 12-phase DC winding in this paper. The d-axis self and mutual reactances can be acquired by various short-circuit tests for one or two three-phase windings. Relevant formulas are derived for calculating the d-axis parameters through measuring the short-circuit currents and voltages of all open three-phase windings. According to the voltages and currents measured in slip-tests for AC and DC windings, the q-axis self and mutual reactances can be obtained. Using these reactances in the simulation program, the simulation and test results agree quite well.

A contactor is a switching device, usually operated by an electromagnet. They are widely used to operate relays that turn on electric motors and other electrical apparatus. The main components of a contactor are contacts, the springs, the magnets and a coil, so the designer of contactors needs to predict their mechanical and electrical performance. This is a coupled problem of electromagnetic fields, transient circuits and mechanical movement. This paper presents a methodology for dynamic analysis of AC cotactor, the model is based on the electro-magnetic system equations and mechanical dynamic properties of a real contactor.
