This paper presents the dynamic stability of a superconducting generator of 200 MW class connected to an infinite busbar through a power transmission line. Details regarding damping ratio, nondamped natural frequency and output power limit of the machine have been investigated. Furthermore, a superconducting generator system with series-connected capacitor in the power transmission-fine has been studied from the viewpoint of stability improvement. This paper also examines dynamic performances dependence upon control systems such as AVR and GOV (Governor).

The electric propulsion system is an important kind of marine power plant. With advantages of layout flexibility, low noise, energy saving, convenient operation, easy automation, etc. it is widely used for ship propulsion and tends to replace the direct propulsion. By describing the particularity, present state and perspectives of marine electric propulsion, this paper explains the prominent merits of the PM propulsion motor over a DC propulsion motor, and introduces the high-power multi-phase PM propulsion motor in brief. The introduction includes the feature of its mechanical-electrical integrated structure, the externally water-cooled stator, multi-phase stator winding, and PM multi-pole rotor.

Is very important to test the main variables of electric motors, and to predicting the performance of motors which have yet to be built. One of the most important characteristics of the simulation models is that they provide all the parameters of motor tests that are desired in just a few seconds. In this paper, the authors show the characteristic electrical parameters of an induction motor during starting, transient simulation and load resistance changes.

A novel instrument has been designed and implemented to measure and analyze the real-time current and voltage of sudden change, which often occurs at the startup of motors. This paper gives the algorithm for eliminating errors in RMS value estimations and the algorithm for compensating voltage variation. The digitized signals are sent to a PC directly through an EPP (enhanced parallel port), so neither the special communication interface nor additional buffers are needed. That makes the instrument simple in realization and convenient for use. With Hall effect probes, this instrument can measure currents as high as 6000 amps fast and accurately. The measured values can be displayed either in real-time waveforms or in RMS value curves according to the user's choice.

In this paper, we propose a totally new experimental instrument for studying the magnetic properties with 3D excitations. The design of the tester, sample, field sensors are outlined. Some results of 3D finite element field analysis are presented. This testing system is being constructed in the Laboratory of Electrical Engineering, University of Technology, Sydney.

This paper describes a new fault diagnosis model of the hydraulic turbine governing system with the advanced BPNN (backpropagation neural network), which consists of three layers: i.e. input layer (17 neurons), hidden layer, output layer (13 neurons). It is proved that the system can rind the faults correctly in GeZhouBa hydroelectric power station, and it can conduct the faults examination and repair of governing systems. So this diagnosis system should be applied widely in practice.

A tabu based algorithm for finding the minmax optimal of multi-objective optimal design problems is proposed. A min-max optimal in multi-objective optimizations is that with the smallest relative increments of all the objective functions. Contrary to other methods used for multi-objective optimizations in electromagnetic device designs, the proposed one requires no scalarization techniques, thus simplifying the numerical implementations considerably. Numerical examples on both test and practical problems are presented to validate the proposed algorithm.

In the paper, a new class of actuator materials, their working principles and some applications are presented. The materials are active and they are called magnetic shape memory (MSM) materials. They can, theoretically, develop, in a magnetic field, large and precise controlled strains up to 20%. Actuators made from MSM can replace conventional electromagnetic devices in many applications.
