A diligent search revealed that to this date, there are scarcely any studies that have been conducted in the Philippines concerning deceptive behavior or lying. 110 undergraduate students from a private college in Metro Manila volunteered to take part in this study. A 19-item researcher-made instrument using a 6-point Likert scale was administered on the respondents. The instrument measured the respondents’ level of agreement with respect to items about (1) ease of telling whether a person is lying with respect to social relationship; (2) signs of lying as established by previous research; (3) reasons for lying; (4) effects of being lied to on one’s trust and (5) knowing the truth. The following are the statistically significant findings: (1) The female respondents believe with greater intensity that it is easier to tell whether a person is lying when the individual is an acquaintance or family member; (2) those without romantic involvement believe with more certainty that it is easier to tell whether a person is lying when the individual is a stranger; (3) the female respondents believe more strongly that a person is lying "when the person is being vague or gives few details", "if before answering my question the person repeats the question", "if the person speaks in sentence fragments", "when the person is unable to give clear details", "when the person fixes his/her hair while answering my question" and "when the person touches his/her lips while answering my question"; (4) female respondents believe to a higher degree that "a person lies to protect his self-image"; (5) the respondents with romantic involvement believe with greater intensity that "a person lies to protect his self-image" and "a person lies to get what he wants"; (6) both the female respondents and respondents with romantic involvement disagree more strongly to the statement "people who lie to me don't affect my trust because I lie too."

Professional development is a critical aspect of education for teachers in the Philippines, who encounter various challenges in addressing the evolving needs of their students and the education system. Using the descriptive cross-sectional technique, the study aimed to identify the practices, challenges, and perceived impact of professional development activities among senior high school teachers. While there are similar studies on the subject, there are few to none which present the specific situation of senior high school teachers in the Philippines. The results showed that the respondents utilized professional development practices in terms of graduate/post-graduate studies to a great extent; FGDs, LACs, and other trainings to a very great extent; research and publication to a very great extent; education innovations to a very great extent; membership in professional organizations to a very great extent; and community service involvement to a very great extent. Of these practices, those in terms of community service involvement were utilized the most while those in terms of graduate/post-graduate studies were utilized the least. In addition, the respondents experienced professional development challenges in terms of teacher-related factors to a great extent; professional development availability, cost, and design to a great extent; and instructional supervision and assistance to a moderate extent. Of these challenges, those in terms of professional development availability, cost, and design were experienced the most while those in terms of instructional supervision and assistance were experienced the least. Furthermore, the respondents perceived the impact of professional development activities to a very great extent. The results also imply the need to underscore involvement in graduate/post-graduate studies in the proposed action plan and to improve the job satisfaction of teachers after engaging in professional development activities. Future researchers may conduct a similar study with the inclusion of the views and experiences of administrators and students as a means of validating the supposed impact of professional development activities as perceived by senior high school teachers.

A study in Chitwan, Nepal, aimed to compare economic and environmental factors between organic and conventional farming. Fifty-three farms (20 organic, 33 conventional) in Fulbari and Jagatpur villages of Chitwan district were surveyed for collecting data and analysis. Detailed data from 16 farms (eight from each organic and conventional farms) were used for modeling, focusing on input/output factors using linear programming. The average farm size of one hectare with sandy loam soil was selected for this analysis. An empirical analysis and a linear programming model were conducted to compare both organic and conventional farms. The model revealed that a cropping cycle involving carrots and other vegetables was key for achieving higher gross margins in both farming systems. Interestingly, a cropping cycle with 30% land allocated to legume crops showed higher variable costs and gross margins compared to one with 50% land dedicated to legume crops. Organic farming with a specific cropping cycle involving rice-broad bean-maize demonstrated superior environmental outcomes compared to the same cycle in conventional farming, particularly in terms of nitrogen and phosphorus surplus. Despite both types of farming being labor-intensive, the observed differences in labor use between organic and conventional farming were not significant for particular crops. However, when the model selected the optimal production plan, it showed that labor use was lower in organic farming than in conventional farming. The study concluded that while conventional farms exhibited higher economic performance, organic farming showcased better environmental outcomes, especially concerning nitrogen and phosphorus surplus. The continuation of organic farming is seen as crucial in supporting superior environmental performance at the farm level, rather than solely prioritizing increased production through conventional methods. To bridge the economic and environmental gap between organic and conventional farming for an optimal farm plan, further in-depth studies are essential, considering local factors such as labor availability, timely access to markets for organic products, and the specific cropping plans for optimal farm performance.

Dolichos lablab (Lablab purpureus (L.) Sweet)) is a multipurpose drought tolerant protein-rich legume crop native to Africa and grown in warm temperate to tropical climates for its edible seeds and manure. Literature informs that Lablab purpureus holds significant benefits to subsistence farmers and offers a great promise for sustainable crop productivity, especially in marginalised areas. Its uses range from human consumption as a vegetable to improving soil fertility, and as forage. Not with standing Lablab purpureus crucial potential functions in Namibia, there is currently limited information regarding the plant’s genetic diversity. This study followed a descriptive quantitative research approach where the data collected was used to describe the samples collected. The study aimed at evaluating the genetic diversity among 26 accessions of Lablab purpureus. The plant’s genetic diversity was determined by PCR amplification of three SSR markers namely VM38, AGB8 and GATS911. The SSR markers had PIC values of 0.452663 for marker VM38, 0.473373 for marker AGB8 and 0.260355 for marker GATS911. The Shannon Index of diversity gave a value of 1.25 meaning low levels of genetic diversity among the accessions. The study was the first report of Lablab purpureus’s genetic diversity in Namibia.

Hematite is an iron oxide that has the most stable and environmentally friendly structure. Hematite is used as a good anode material, this is due to its high specific capacity, good chemical and thermal stability, and low cost. Hematite has weaknesses, namely poor cycle stability, unable to withstand volume changes, and low conductivity values. To improve the electrochemical performance of lithium-ion batteries, modifications are made to the anode material by adding a dopant. This research aims to synthesize Co-doped hematite material with variations of 0.2, 4, and 6.8% using NaOH and KOH precipitating agents, characterize Co-doped hematite material using FTIR, XRD, SEM-EDX, and analyze its electrochemical performance as a lithium-ion battery anode. The method used is deposition. The synthesis results obtained brick red and black precipitates. FTIR characterization shows that the sample contains the Fe-O-Fe functional group which appears at wave numbers 519.19 and 517.32 cm-1. Based on XRD characterization, samples of undoped hematite and 6% Co had crystal sizes of 26.4193 nm and 20.6927 nm. SEM characterization results show that the morphology of the 6% Co-doped hematite sample has an irregular semi-spherical shape. The electrochemical test results show that the battery with the best electrochemical performance was produced by a 6% Co-doped hematite sample which had a conductivity value of 2.35 x 10-3 S/cm and the resulting battery capacity efficiency reached 99.9%.

This study looked into the financial practices used by school heads in public elementary schools in Baguio City, Philippines. It specifically looked at the relationship between the understanding levels of ten school heads and their gender, experience, educational background, and attendance at accounting and financial management courses. The research employed a qualitative methodology at the Baguio City, mainly utilizing interviews as a means of data collection, with other methods including observation and analysis. Manual analysis was done on the phenomenological qualitative data that came from in-depth interviews and were backed up by documentation. The findings demonstrate that there is a substantial relationship between the level of accounting and financial management skills and participation in financial training sessions, educational background, and past experience as a school head. However, the knowledge of accounting and financial management in schools is not greatly influenced by variables like gender, prior teaching experience, or prior assistant teaching experience. It is noted that most school heads and accounting clerks handle financial concerns on behalf of the school; most teachers and school clerks are not directly involved in these affairs.

It specifically looked at the relationship between the understanding levels of ten school heads and their gender, experience, educational background, and attendance at accounting and financial management courses. The research employed a qualitative methodology at the Baguio City, mainly utilizing interviews as a means of data collection, with other methods including observation and analysis. Manual analysis was done on the phenomenological qualitative data that came from in-depth interviews and were backed up by documentation. The findings demonstrate that there is a substantial relationship between the level of accounting and financial management skills and participation in financial training sessions, educational background, and past experience as a school head. However, the knowledge of accounting and financial management in schools is not greatly influenced by variables like gender, prior teaching experience, or prior assistant teaching experience. It is noted that most school heads and accounting clerks handle financial concerns on behalf of the school; most teachers and school clerks are not directly involved in these affairs.","PeriodicalId":151974,"journal":{"name":"Cognizance Journal of Multidisciplinary Studies","volume":"95 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139196484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study delves into the effects of integrating Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) and Boosting and Gaining Individual Word Understanding (BAG-IW) materials on the reading comprehension abilities of elementary learners. The research presents compelling evidence regarding the efficacy of these materials in enhancing the reading comprehension of these learners. While the majority of students generally fall within the instructional reading level, only a minority face challenges in grasping the meaning of texts. The study advocates for the sustained use of DEAR and BAG-IW materials to further augment the reading proficiency of elementary learners in Baguio City and Mt. Province. Remarkably, these interventions have yielded success in moving some students from the frustration level to the instructional level, with an additional six learners reaching the instructional level. This underscores the significant impact of DEAR and BAG-IW on students' reading abilities, substantiated by the results of the chi-square analysis. Consequently, this research highlights the imperative of continued investment in these programs, emphasizing their value as instrumental tools for enhancing reading comprehension among learners. The implications of these findings are far-reaching, extending to educators and policymakers who seek to improve the reading proficiency of primary school students, ultimately contributing to their academic success and overall development.
