Malnutrition is an issue of global dimensions affecting all ages. Malnutrition in children is common inearly age especially during infancy and weaning. However, it also prevails during early schooling. Inadults and elderly it is studied as under Protein Energy Malnutrition. It has not only short termadverse effects but also exhibits long term sustained and progressive effects. Kuposhana/Bala Shoshais explained in the Ayurveda literatures and elaborate therapeutic interventions are also described.The disease Karshya also applies to this condition. Shiva Modaka, a drug described under Bala Rogaseems to act on vide dimensions of pediatric health with indications in common pediatric ailments too.The present clinical study is an effort to evaluate the efficacy of the said drug on hematological,biochemical and immunological parameters in Malnutrition in school going children.

The Prakriti is the innate constitution of an individual based on the predominance of Dosha determinedat the time of conception which cannot be changed from birth till death. Qualities of Dosha areexpressed on body due to its predominance and it is called Deha Prakriti. Koshta refers to the state ofthe Abdomen or Alimentary tract, and usually is determined by the behavior of the bowel habits.Koshta also varies according to different Prakruti. Koshta concepts helps to understand find out typesof Vyadhi and its help for treatments because drug selection depends on Koshta. Sravana andBhadrapada Masa constitutes Varsha Rutu. So this study is an attempt to understand the relationbetween Koshta and Prakruti in different Kala with special reference to Sravana and Bhadrapada Masa.

Clinical efficacy of Panchatikta Kshira Basti inthe management of Gridhrasi

The study was undertaken to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Panchatikta Kshira Basti in themanagement of Sciatica. Panchatikta Kshira Basti contains Guduchi (Tinospora cardiofolia). Nimba(Azadirakta indica) Vasa (Adhathoda vasica), Kantakari (Solanum Surrattense), Patola (Trichosanthesdioica), Kshira (Milk) Goghrita (Ghee), Madhu (Honey), Saindhava (Salt). This remedy proveextremely beneficial as it can be performed on the OPD and IPD basis, gives significant relief in thesymptoms e.g. radiating pain, stiffness, twitching sensation. The subjective parameters like Pain, SLR,VAD, VDS etc., were used to score clinical outcome. The average clinical improvement was calculatedby proper statistical treatment. Our experience with this modality has been encouraging as theresponse pattern is good in considerably short duration of treatment. The patient improves graduallyafter 4 weeks of treatment. The sustained improvement with Basti presents a window of opportunityin the clinical management of Sciatica. Ideally this technique should be practically taught to thephysicians and should be evaluated scientifically using principles of biophysics and nerve conductionstudies.

Evaluation of Anti-epileptic activity of UnmadGaja Kesari Rasa II in Animal Models 动物抗癫痫活性评价

Apasmara can be correlated with epilepsy, In Ayurveda, Unmada Gaja Kesari Ras II is advocated inthe treatment of Apasmara. Present study was done to evaluate Antiepileptic activity of UGK II aherbo-mineral drug. In Electro shock model total 24 albino mice were classified into 4 groups eachgroup containing 6 mice. Human dose was extrapolated with extrapolating factor 0.0026 and drug dosewas given to control, standard, test x and 2x group. The duration of tonic hind limb extension (THLE)and mortality was observed for duration of 15min. The complete inhibition of THLE was considered aspositive criteria. In PTZ induce convulsion model total 24 albino mice were classified into 4 groupseach group containing 6 mice. Human dose was extrapolated with extrapolating factor 0.0026 anddrug dose was given to control, standard, test x and 2x group. The time required for clonic convulsion,incidence and mortality was observed for duration of 30 mins. UGK II at 2 drug dose level provesequally effective to standard drug Phenytoin to abolish THLE. UGK II at 2 drug dose level is effectivewhen compare to control group and Sodium valproate prove effective to reduce onset of time ofconvulsion when compare to test drug.

Evaluation of learning memory activity of Unmad Gaja Kesari Rasa II in Animal Models 动物模型对Unmad Gaja Kesari Rasa II学习记忆活动的评价

In recent era there is competition in each and every field, so there is lot of mental stress or mental disorder seen. In modern medicine there are various drugs such as antipsychotic, antiepileptic, mood stabilizer etc. which have certain adverse effect such as drowsiness, dizziness, memory loss etc. But Ayurveda certainly has an answer, there are total 112 formulations mentioned in classical text for physco neurological disorder i.e., Unmad and Apasmar, out of these there are total 25 herbo-mineral formulations and Unmad Gaja Kesari Rasa II (UGK II) is one of them. Present study was done to evaluate Learning memory effect of Unmad Gaja Kesari Rasa II a herbo-mineral compound. Cook’s and widely model was used to evaluate learning memory activity. Total 30 wistar rats were classified into 5 groups each containing 6 rats. Human dose was extrapolated with extrapolating factor 0.018 and drug dose was given to control I and II, standard, test x and 2x group, after that learning and Relearning trails were given and avoidance, escape and no response was observed. It has been established that UGK II (Rasa Kamdhenu i.e.; R.K Unmad Chikitsa/9-12) has effective role in learning and memory activity.

Pharmaceutical study of Kasisa Satva 枇杷膏的药理研究

Satvapatana and use of Satvabhasma is neglected part not practiced like other therapeutic process like Bhasmas, Parpati and Sindurakalpana etc. now days we get all Dhatu in its pure form but those metals are not extracted as therapeutically active material. Those metals are extracted by using metallurgical methods like leaching, electro wining etc. These methods are not aimed at therapeutically active agent. Basic principle in Rasashastra is to make Asatmya, toxic metal into Sharira Satmya Dravya for that from Shodhana to Marana process, we use all organic Sharira Satmya Dravyas to convert them nonpoisonous, therapeutically active, easily absorbable medicine. These principals are not involved in contemporary extraction methods. This is major difference in metallurgical extracted metal and metals extracted in satvapatana process. Rasa Granthas have mentioned that Satvas are purer, more potent, so here an attempt is done to study the pharmaceutical process of Satvapatna.

Grahani Dosha is vitiation of Agni i.e. functional derangement of Grahani regarding production of Pachaka Pitta (enzymes responsible for digestion) and also holding (Grahana) of Ama (food) for digestion. Grahani in Ayurveda is called as Pittadhara kala which is the seat of Agni responsible for digestion of food and situated above Nabhi. The part of small intestine and large intestine lying between Amashaya and Pakwashaya should be considered as Grahani. This part is also described as the sole site of Pitta. Various disorders of GI tract like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can be considered under heading of Grahani Roga. Both the formulations Nagradya Churna and Bhunimbadya churna are highly effective, promote appetite, digestion and remove Ama Dosha from the system by increasing the power of Agni. Madhu is Yogabahi and it helps to initiate the absorption through intestine properly. Total 40 patients of Grahani were registered and randomly divided into 2 groups for clinical trial of 45days. Result of the study revealed that both the formulations produced significant results in almost all cases barring a few patients who were suffering from longer period.

Background: Viswachi is one among the 80 Nanatmaja Vata Vyadhi. This disease affects the neck and upper extremities with the signs and symptoms like Ruk, Stambha, Toda, Bahu Karmakshaya. Vatagajankusha Rasa is a combination of Vyosha, Bhasmas, Vatsanabha, Karkatasringi, Haritaki etc. It has Vatakaphahara, Vikasi, Vyavayi, Rasayana etc. properties. It is said to be effective in treating Visawachi in 7 days if given along with Pippali Churna and Manjishta Kwatha. Aims and Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of Vatagajankusha Rasa with Pippali Churna and Manjishta Kwatha as Anupana in the management of Viswachi (Cervical spondylosis). Methodology: Among 35 registered patients, 30 completed the course of treatment. They were administered with Vatagajankusha Rasa 1 tablet (125 mg) after food with Anupana 3gm Pippali Churna and 15 ml Manjishta Kwatha twice daily (morning and evening) for a period of 7 days. Nominal and ordinal data were analysed using non parametric tests like McNemar and Wilcoxon’s signed rank tests respectively. Result: Assessment parameters like Ruk, Toda, Sthambha and Bahukarma Kshya. There was statistically significant improvement in the primary and secondary outcome measures (p less than 0.05 was observed). Conclusion: Vatagajankusha Rasa with Pippali Churna and Manjishta Kwatha as Anupana is effective in the management of Viswachi (Cervical spondylosis).

Background: Skin is the largest organ of human body. Its size and external location makes it susceptible to a wide variety of disorders. In recent years there has been increase in incidence of skin problem due to various reasons like Poverty, Poor sanitation, Unhygienic condition, Pollution etc. Dadru is one among Kushta Roga affecting all the age of population. It is Kapha-Pitta Pradhan Vyadhi and presents clinically with the features of Kandu, Raga, Pidika, Daha, Rookshata, Udgata Mandala etc. and can be correlated with Tinea infection. Management of Dadru includes Shodhana, Shaman and Bahiparimarjan Chikitsa. Chakramarda is a wild crop grows in most part of India and it is known as Ringworm plant. So here in this study Chakramadadi Pralepa was used to evaluate the efficacy in Dadru.

Ayurveda Practitioners Consensus to Develop Strategies for Prevention and Treatment of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) 阿育吠陀从业者达成共识,制定预防和治疗冠状病毒病(COVID-19)的策略

Background: The outbreak of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been recently declared as Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) by World Health Organization and the virus has now spread beyond the boundaries of countries and continents. At present, no specific antiviral treatment or vaccine is available or recommended to counter the COVID-19, and the potential therapy is still symptomatic. Objective: The primary aim of the study is to review ancient classical literatures and past human treatment protocols of Ayurveda for prevention and treatment of infectious diseases and flu like illnesses, so as to provide guidance for the prevention of COVID-19. Methods: Classical Ayurveda and recent modern literature with treatment protocols of Ayurveda for prevention and treatment of flu and infectious diseases were reviewed and COVID-19 has been categorized in four specific situations based on the severity of clinical condition. Total 110 Ayurveda practitioners of different parts of India were participated in the survey. These specific situations were conveyed and described to these participants and their opinions and options were collected through social media platform i.e. WhatsApp or SMS. Results: Recommendation and suggestions received from more than 50% participants were taken into accounts to draft the recommendation for probable preventive and therapeutic regimen for the disease. Conclusion: The results obtained in the study may provide a preventive strategy to the Ayurveda practitioners as well as common people across the globe by increasing the innate immunity of the body to combat COVID-19. However, till today, social distancing is considered as most effective way to stop the spread of COVID-19. Further, pilot study for different group is recommended.
