Introduction. Reactive hyperplastic lesions of the oral cavity are non-neoplastic lesions that result from low-grade chronic irritation of the oral mucosa. Objectives. The aim of this study was to present the epidemiological characteristics of reactive lesions. Materials and methods. The study was a retrospective analysis of the medical records of 116 patients with reactive lesions. The tissue specimens were obtained by biopsy. 115 patients underwent an excisional biopsy, whereas in one case an incisional biopsy was performed. Results. The most frequently encountered lesion was inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia (IFH) (n=37, 31.9%), followed by irritation fibroma (IF) (n=36, 31%), pyogenic granuloma (PG) (n=15, 12.9%), fissured granuloma (FG) (n= 14, 12.1%). The lesions were more commonly observed in females (n=70, 60.3%) than in males (n=46, 39.7%) with a ratio of 1.5:1, respectively. The buccal and labial mucosa were the most prevalent sites of reactive lesions. Most of the lesions were between >5 mm and ≤10 mm in diameter except for FGs, which were much bigger. Conclusions. Early detection and elimination of all potentially causative factors and irritants is a crucial matter, especially in the case of the vestibule of the oral cavity, which is the most susceptible area of the oral cavity.

Introduction. Gestation is a very sensitive time both to mother and child. Any substance, factor, or environmental condition disturbing homeostasis may cause congenital defects, anomalies or even death. Teratology evaluates those potential factors and their influence. Also, medicinal products used during pregnancy may be teratogenic. Adriblastin, also known as Doxorubicin, and Bleomycin are widely used cytostatic drugs in oncology. Aim. Aim of this study was to evaluate the embryotoxic effects of Doxorubicin and Bleomycin in an animal model. Materials and methods. Fertilised Wistar rat females were given each drug intraperitoneally between the 8th and 15th gestation day, and compared to control group receiving placebo (distilled water, 0.9% NaCl). Another group received acetyl salicylic acid, as a model, well known teratogen. Changes in mothers’ weight from baseline, implantation of embryos, any discrepancies in mothers wombs and health as well as defects in fetuses were evaluated and compared. Fetus skeletons were stained by Dowson’s method to visualise bone defects. Results and conclusion. Both Adriblastin and Bleomycin were teratogenic, producing significantly more embryo absorptions, and fetal defects compared to placebo. The effects of the two cytostatics were similar to the model teratogen acetyl salicylic acid.

Introduction. Treatment of epilepsy patients with one antiepileptic drug often fails and then the insufficiently medicated patients need two or three antiepileptic drugs combined together to stop their seizures. However, polytherapy is always associated with drug-drug interactions whose nature may or may not be favorable for epilepsy patients. Preclinical studies on animals can help to select beneficial combinations of antiepileptic drugs that could be used in further clinical settings. Aim. To isobolographically characterize anticonvulsant effects of a combination of three antiepileptic drugs (carbamazepine, lacosamide and lamotrigine) at the fixed drug dose ratio of 1:1:1 in the mouse maximal electroshock-induced seizure test. Material and methods. Maximal electroconvulsions were evoked in male Swiss mice by a current (25 mA, 500 V, 0.2 s stimulus duration) delivered via auricular electrodes. Type I isobolographic analysis was applied to assess the interaction among carbamazepine, lacosamide and lamotrigine. Results. Isobolographic analysis revealed that the combination of carbamazepine, lacosamide and lamotrigine produced additive interaction in the mouse maximal electroshock-induced seizure test. Conclusions. Additivity among carbamazepine, lacosamide and lamotrigine in this preclinical study can be translated to clinical settings and this three-drug combination can be recommended as a treatment option for epilepsy patients who are resistant to standard treatment regimens.

Objective: Brain Machine Integration refers to a hybrid intelligent system that integrates biological intelligence and machine intelligencethrough brain computer interface technology, which is considered one of the most important frontier science fields in the 21st century. Asan important part of brain integration, machine intelligence has strong storage and computing power. Compared with machine intelligence,the advantage of bio-intelligence lies in its high efficiency and low power consumption perception and logical reasoning ability. It is a keyproblem and challenge to combine the advantages of the two and build a more powerful new intelligent form.Methods: The research work related to brain-computer fusion system was analyzed with literature review and compared with the research.Results: This paper summarizes the research work related to migratory brain fusion system, and analyzes the main problems and challengesin the study of migratory brain-computer fusion system.

Postoperative reconstruction of tissue loss within the head and neck after extensive resections due to malignant neoplasms or traumas has always been a challenge for maxillo-facial surgeons or ENT physicians. Due to the complex anatomical structure of the head and neck region, every patient requires an individual approach and there is no standard method of management appropriate for all patients. The number of patients treated for malignancy is increasing year by year. The possibility of performing extensive resections in the head and neck region are conditioned by appropriate reconstruction. Aim. The aim of the paper is to present the reconstructive methods used in the Clinical Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, F. Chopin Hospital No. 1 in Rzeszow. A short review of the most commonly used flaps is presented, taking into account their advantages, disadvantages and surgical technique in terms of their usefulness in daily clinical practice.

Introduction. Healthy nutrition is very important during pregnancy for both a baby and a mother. Modification of metabolic and hormonal processes i.e. metabolic programming occurs already at the prenatal stage. This process significantly affects the baby’s health and eating habits at a later age. The diet of a pregnant woman should supplement the demand for energy, nutrients, vitamins and minerals. An expecting woman needs to also avoid products that are contraindicated during this period, such as raw milk, eggs or meat. Aim. Assessment of nutritional behavior of pregnant women from the Podkarpacie province. Materials and method. 228 women living in the Podkarpackie province were enrolled in the study. Surveys were collected via the Internet. An anonymous questionnaire developed by the authors was used. Results. Women’s eating habits are primarily influenced by education. Most women had knowledge about proper nutrition and awareness of its impact on the health of the baby. A worrying fact was a very low intake of dairy products. 44% of women consumed dairy products only once a day. Fruit and vegetables consumption was also low (40% of the respondents ate only from 100 to 200 g during the day). Conclusions. Although part of the eating habits of pregnant women is correct, nutritional education should be introduced in this group, especially related to the adequate supply of dairy products, fruit and vegetables to supplement the necessary vitamins, minerals and protein.
