In the play Seven Steps around the Fire, Mahesh Dattani, a renowned playwright, portrays the deplorable position of Hijras (Eunuchs) in Indian society and his efforts to heighten the consciousness of the existential pain that these people endure as a result of prejudice in their daily lives. The goal is to evaluate how the Hijra community and the so-called sophisticated and biologically legitimate community, or the typical male and female in society, relate to one another. In the current inflexible societal framework, where their existence is neither recognised nor respected, Dattani's play Seven Steps around the Fire unpretentiously strives to disclose the additional efforts and additional changes the Hijras are needed to do in order for them to sustain themselves. Because of those limitations, they are compelled to live a life of insignificance, devoid of the status and acceptance that so-called normal males and girls naturally enjoy. Readers are moved by the play's description of the eunuchs' pitiful living conditions and are left with a deep wish to see injustice and prejudice eradicated from society. The play's tight-knit plots and supportive structure educate everyone about the Hijras' human rights, which are equal to those of other people and include the same fundamental freedoms. It exposes the appalling circumstances of the eunuchs, whose lives have been rendered meaningless by the ruling class (females/males) of society. The eunuchs are forced to live in a virtual world of humanity devoid of equality, cultural space, respect, and acknowledgment because they are given the freedom to impose their own cultural norms on this deprived class. This research paper deals with all these deliberations.

The relationship between man and the environment is of mutual dependence. They are one indivisible entity. Man can develop his life only by living in harmony with the natural environment. The harmonious co-existence of man and nature is imperative. Unfortunately in this age of science and technology, human beings have failed to understand their inevitable dependence on nature. Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, expresses the intrinsic value of nature through his short stories to children. By sensitizing children to environmental issues, Dr.Ikeda tries to rechannel and amplify their energy toward a revolution that can bring peace and harmony to the entire world. In his opinion, the eco-consciousness in children can invoke spirituality in them and that can lead to the cessation of man-made disasters. The best way to solve the environmental crisis is to teach the coming generations about the fundamental value of nature. Dr.Ikeda’s stories are bundled with elements that make children happy as well as thoughtful.

The present article examines Yemeni folk heritage history and the many cultural and historical influences on Yemeni folklore and folk poetry. It explains how folk literature is passed down from one generation to the next, how it plays a significant role in transmitting the experience of the nation, and how these genres are relevant to modern life based on studies of folk literature scholars like Walter J. Ong, William John Thoms, Hardy Campbell, Michael Zwettler, and James Wynbrandt. The two most captivating types of oral poetry are Zamil and Sung Poetry. This study introduces much-needed criteria for research on a nation’s varied legacy inherited from other cultures and countries. In order to adequately describe contemporary Yemeni folk literature, it is also helpful for readers to be acquainted with the nation’s past.

Discourse of human instincts is an ever challenging notion in psychology. These challenges paved a way for new exploration. One of the significant endeavour on Object Relation Theory is Melanie Kleinian model of psychical development, is the infant seen as coming into the world with life and death instincts. Phantasy, Projection,Introjection, Sadism, Epistemophilia, Reparation, Symbolism in which Klein sees life and death instincts in the human condition. Literature provides a rich platform to explore human psyche since ancient times. Khaled Hosseini’s works are one of such entity to explore human instincts. His two novels, The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns’s characters Mariam, Amir, Hassan, Sorob, Soroya , and Ali had experienced bitter childhood days in their past. The characters of Hosseini’s have suffered from Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which haunts them throughout. The present study focuses on how the Eros and Thanatos frame the personality of selected characters with the fear of their past and to constrain their purpose in life.

The present article endeavors to analyze Arundhati Roy’s critique of big dams and projects. An attempt is made to bring home various dimensions and commitments that inform her critique of the big dams which cause more damage and devastation than serving the needs of the people at large. The primary focus is on Ms. Roy’s participation in the Narmada Bachao Andolan which is an Indian resistance movement that tries to prevent building of large dams, reservoirs and power plants. As the building of projects may lead to evacuation of villages and to lose immovable properties numerous environmentalists, humanists, activists and other personalities also have condemned the government for the decisions and implementations. Arundhati Roy is one among them who raises awareness of dangers of massive dams, of resulting forced relocation of people and of damage to environment. The present article is going to discuss the tireless and selfless service of Arundhati Roy and the NBA to tens of thousands of farmers, Adivasis and common people who are participating in the protest to oppose the aforementioned large structures constructed by the Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA). In conclusion, the article also attempts to bring out the various aspects and convictions that informed Roy’s critique of big projects.

The paper attempts to critically analyse the representation of cultural versatility about tradition, rituals, family, class and identities through the lens of Amit Chaudhuri’s novel A New World. By shedding light on culturally significant locations like Kolkata’s streets and markets as well as cultural components like cuisine and music in Bengali society, he hopes to study and re-examine the city’s past while portraying its present. The Indian immigrant Jayojit Chatterjee and his son Bonny’s hybridised sense of identity, dislocation, and alienation would be further discussed in Genealogy and Cultural Versatility. A New World does not substantively explore the struggle to conquer life in his new world. Instead, the novel is a celebration of the old world Jayojit has left behind.

The paper aims to form a comprehensive and in-depth study of the theme of multiculturalism as portrayed within the selected novels of Orhan Pamuk and Amitav Ghosh. The reputed Indian novelist Amitav Ghosh has carved a distinct segment for himself within the world of fiction even as Orhan Pamuk who writes exquisite novels won the Nobel award. Pamuk’s work often touches on the deep rooted tensions of spiritual conflict between East and West, tradition and modernism or secularism. Loss of identity occurs in an alien land within the novel owing to the colonial impact within the postcolonial context. These are the ideas that involve relationship between individuals belonging to the identical or to different communities that sometimes transgress and transcend the shadow lines of political borders. Depicting meticulously the lives of Indian diaspora in Burma, this novel has taken a lot of time for Ghosh, travelling between the boundaries of south Asian countries as to incorporate the events of this novel. Ghosh tells the story of colonizer-colonized relationship through the temporal and spatial journeys of his characters. Pamuk and Ghosh talkabout the national identity, oppression, diaspora, exile and a host of such factors which influence the construction of a nation. Both as novelists deals with culture, nationality, tradition, the conflict between the east and the west, communication, defending individual’s rights of expression and belief and arguing against religious and nationalism.

Mahesh Dattani, one of the greatest dramatists of the contemporary age, focuses especially on the suppressed or the less-privileged people. He is not only a dramatist but also an actor and director. He deals with sensational issues like homosexuality, gay relationship, taboos, the position of women, and the hijra community. In Tara, Dattani has vehemently attacked the prevailing socio-cultural system in India, which poses several kinds of limitations, confinement, compulsions, and coercion to female children. They are not permitted either to act freely or to think freely. Tara is also the victim of such a sociocultural system. Being a disabled girl she faces prolonged suffering, humiliation, and subsequently death. Dattani wants to uphold the rights and dignity of women and to bring about equality between men and women.

The emotion of nostalgia is universal as far as the opinions of researchers and theorists are concerned. There is not a single individual in the world who is devoid of the feeling of nostalgia. It is a psychological phenomenon, and every individual in the world has been influenced by the feeling. It has distinct definitions based on worldwide experiments. The literature published in psychology, pathology, social science, humanities, science, etc. in the world puts on record different definitions of this complex emotion. Though earlier it was considered a disease, today it is simply a sentiment associated with the past. Throughout the novel The Debut the protagonist, Dr. Ruth Weiss, looks back on her life at the age of forty. Brookner’s use of the flashback techniqueis important from a nostalgic point of view. Her early days’ memories connected to her parents, her grandmother, her school, and teachers remain bitter-sweet. Her childhood memories of family responsibilities, disillusionment with love, feelings of insecurity in the outside world, the loss of loved ones, and so on are all associated with nostalgia. Ruth is mostly nostalgic about her grandmother, and the death of her grandmother seems to be the end of the source of the unselfish love and comfort. Her speechless condition at the death of her grandmother speaks volumes about her psychological state. Though her mother seems harsh, her father is soft on her. The novel explores the daughter-father relationship, friendship, and love. She fails to win the love of Richard and Duplesis, but manages to marry Roddy. But she remains lonely, serving her aged father afterthe death of Roddy. The other characters, Helen, George, Sally, Molly, Roddy, Mr. Dunlop, etc., are also projected as nostalgic figures on different occasions.
