In this paper, a kind of concatenated modulation with OPPM and PWM for LED indoor communication is proposed. 400 Mbit/s bit rate is achieved in analysis and 50 Mbit/s transmission rate is demonstrated in experiments. The Monte Carlo simulations are applied to get the BER curves of the system based on the AWGN channel. The modified bit-flipping algorithm could get 2dB coding gain more than the standard bit-flipping algorithm at the BER level of about 10-5.

We demonstrate some methods to improve the correlation performance and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of chaos correlation OTDR. By inserting a fiber ring resonator in the external cavity of laser diode with optical feedback, we optimize the chaotic laser source to eliminate the high side-lobe corresponding to the length of external cavity. The side-lobe noise of correlation trace induced by the randomness of chaotic signal and other noise interferences will limit the SNR and measurement range of chaos correlation OTDR. We also show that this limitation can be mitigated by using the wavelet de-noising method and the correlation average discrete-component elimination algorithm.

Traditionally, the superluminal behaviors of evanescent waves have been studied by means of tunneling time theory. Seeing that evanescent waves are identical with near fields, to present a heuristic and straightforward explanation for the superluminal behaviors of evanescent waves, in this paper we study the superluminal behaviors of the near fields of an electric dipole antenna, and obtain the results in agreement with the phase time model of tunneling time theory.

Based on a two-dimensional plasmonic metal-dielectric-metal waveguide with a thin metallic layer and dual nanocavites inserted in the core, a novel nanostructured absorber is presented. A transfer matrix model for the proposed structure is established, and the optical spectra are investigated. Design results show that a narrow reflection spectrum occurs at position of the near-unity absorption, and is significantly influenced by the environment. It is able to generate a sensitivity as high as 1000 nm/RIU, which be used as an excellent sensing platform for chemical and biochemically relevant molecules.

A new photochromic diarylethene compound, 1-(2-methylpyridine)-2-[2-methyl-5-(3-methoxylphenyl)-3-thienyl]perfluorocyclopentene(1a) was synthesized. its photochromic and fluorescent properties have been investigated in detail. While, fluorescence properties in different solution have also been discussed. The results of the research demonstrated that it has shown good photochromic behavior and relatively strong fluorescence in different solution and in PMMA at room temperature. Finally, photo-mode rewritable optical storage using 1b was performed. The images demonstrated that the compound can be used as optical storage material.

A material of nitrogen, carbon-codoped TiO2 (HITNC-1) with an unusual optical property in the near-infrared region is prepared at 800°C in NH3 and CO2 atmosphere. TEM results show semiconductor nanocrystals with grain size approximately in the range of 2~8 nm. HITNC-1 exhibits two strong absorption bands in near-infrared region, which is relative with the F-type color centers produced by the behaviors of Ti3+ trapping electrons and lies on the doping of N,C atoms into TiO2 lattices. The results of the surface photovoltage spectrum indicate that the intensity of positive photovoltage signal is 20 times than raw TiO2, and emerges a new signal in NIR region. The transient photovoltage results provide the investigation of dynamic behavior of photo-induced charge carriers in HITNC-1. Therefore, the photoelectrochemical properties clearly demonstrate that N,C-codoped TiO2 at high temperature could induce the separation of e- and h+ and harvest photons for optical property.

We present our group's recent research progresses of mid-infrared (mid-IR) surface emitting two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal (PC) lasers via MBE-grown IV-VI group semiconductors on silicon substrates. The device design was based on a 2D micron-level honeycomb structure, in which complete photonic bandgaps will form in mid-IR region. For the initial demonstration, two intensive PC modulated mid-IR light emissions were identified under cryogenic temperature range. After theoretical modification, room temperature surface emitting PC coupled mid-IR lasing was observed recently. With further optimization, room temperature surface emitting continuous wave PC laser is envisioned in the near future.

Photosensitive structures were produced by heat treatment of polycrystalline p - and n - CuInSe2 in vacuum and in air polycrystalline substrates at temperatures near 500°C. The spectral dependence of photosensitivity of the two types of structures in natural and linearly polarized radiation were investigated and analyzed. T photosensitivity of the best structures reaches 16 mA/W at T = 300 K. The laws of polarization photosensitivity of such structures were determined and discussed in relation to the fabrication conditions of the structures. It was concluded that there is a new possibility of using polarized photoelectric spectroscopy for diagnostics of phase interactions in complex semiconductors and for optimizing the technology for producing photoconversion structures.

For organic polymer asymmetric rib waveguide, the fundamental mode cut-off conditions, the single-mode conditions and the polarization characteristics were studied systematically under different rib height, rib width, core height and the short side width of core slab by means of semi-vector finite-difference beam propagation method. The results showed that both fundamental mode cut-off area and the single-mode area increased with the reducing of rib height and rib width and the single-mode area decreased with the reducing of the short side width of core slab at a certain core height. The effect of core height was small on the fundamental mode cut-off and single-mode conditions at a certain rib height or rib width. In the asymmetric ridge waveguide the polarization characteristic had not been changed basically and the birefringence decreased with decreasing of the short side width of core slab. The results had great referential value for application of the organic polymer asymmetric rib waveguide.

In this paper, the PDE method of image segmentation was introduced. And then, the geometry active contour was mainly discussed. For example, geodesic active contour (GAC) and active contour without edge (C-V). Furthermore, the application of GAC model in image segmentation and the value achievement of GAC model. At the same time, some corrective methods were summed in this paper. Finally, it got the good result when using C-V model in the detection of spot.
