There are not a lot of example of robot introduction aboard civilian ships. This paper presents results on motion field superresolution algorithm with time execution occasionally beyond Windows precision (10 ms). The results on segmentation from simulated underwater situation are also presented.

As the TV world is going digital, new solutions to some conversion demands on TV archive materials need to be specified, and at the same time change of format need to be taken into consideration. Telecine was and still is the main conversion tool used to get electronic video signals of film pictures, and still protect projects closest possible artistic atmosphere of film image, or documentary content of archived material, but film is not what TV archive is all about. Differences appear because of different TV screen aspect ratio, as well as different resolution. Therefore different balance of picture elements, because of the format conversion processes results with different content or atmosphere of the TV projected picture. In this article some possible combinations of transmitted signal and TV aspect ratio are compared.

The Automarine Module is a cost effective method for transforming underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) into autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), with a minimum development time needed. An existing ROV can easily be transformed in an AUV with no alteration of its interior, thus retaining the ROV mode of operation by simply disconnecting the module. The Automarine autonomization module described here has been developed for the VideoRay Pro II ROV, and the same idea can easily be applied on any other ROV.

The first part of this paper gives a short introduction in WiMAX technology. Second part of the paper shows transmission modes in the WiMAX system air interface, followed in the third part by mathematical approach for calculating the cell relative area covered with respective types of transmission modes. Fourth part of the paper presents simulations results that are obtained by using typical terrain and WiMAX system features, and is followed with conclusion at the end of this paper. Emphasis of this paper is in revealing propagation properties that shape relative surfaces covered with certain mode of signal in a WiMAX cell.

The ROV simulator was developed as modular structure with the possibility of connecting signals received from the real ROV. Programming language VRML helped in developing a 3D model of the ROV and the interaction between the ROV and the virtual world has been achieved. The kinematics of the ROV was implemented for simulator needs. The simulator menu offers different virtual environments. The simulator has different additional possibilities such as: gripper management, realistic illumination and camera manipulations.

A major percentage of underwater operations takes place in structured environments. This article presents a low cost way for underwater vehicle positioning in places like pools, tanks, water towers etc. The developed application calculates a 2D position using only a simple scanning sonar and a digital compass. A user interface has also been designed for this purpose. Various modes of sonar scanning were tested in a circular pool and the analysis of the results is presented here.

Advances in digitalization of the terrestrial television signal emission have already become commercially available in many European countries based on the introduction of the digital video broadcasting -terrestrial (DVB-T) standard. As the DVB-T system is not completely suitable for mobile signal reception, a new digital video broadcasting -handheld (DVB-H) system with a number of innovations, intended for mobile signal reception by small, pocketsize receivers has been designed. The signals received on movement are influenced by the frequency Doppler shift, related to the rate of receiver movement and relative angle between the movement direction and signal direction. In this paper the impact of Doppler shift on mobile communication reception and technology to its reduction in DVB-H system are presented.

Time series prediction involves the determination of an appropriate model, which can encapsulate the dynamics of the system, described by the sample data. Previous work has demonstrated the potential of neural networks in predicting the behaviour of complex, non-linear systems. In particular, the class of polynomial neural networks has been shown to possess universal approximation properties, while ensuring robustness to noise and missing data, good generalisation and rapid learning. In this work, a polynomial neural network is proposed, whose structure and weight values are determined with the use of evolutionary computing. The resulting networks allow an insight into the relationships underlying the input data, hence allowing a qualitative analysis of the models' performance. The approach is tested on a variety of non-linear time series data.

Increased ship automatization levels lead to better functionality and safety, as well as reduced costs and crew numbers. This article gives an overview of various marine control and monitoring systems recently developed by Brodarski Institute. Included in the presentation are recently commissioned propulsion monitoring system for fast patrol vessels, distributed fire and flooding protection system, ship guidance system of a highly manoeuvrable small vessel, naval automatic degaussing systems, integrated low-cost mine countermeasures system and integrated hydrographic survey and navigation system for inland waterways.

This paper deals with some of the open issues in the area of MIMO systems from a practical point of view. Theoretical capacity in several channel models and the difference between theoretical and realistic channel are described. Limitations of possible number of antenna elements and antenna topologies are presented. Trade-off between maximum capacity and cost/complexity is discussed.
