Inventory of Psychological Characteristics Associated with Academic Performance: University Students Validation This study aimed to adapt and validate a self-report questionnaire to study students of academic merit for a Portuguese population. The Inventory of Psychological Characteristics Associated with Academic Performance was originally developed by Dutch researchers. The sample consisted of 1,366 students (771 women, 597 men) from the 1st cycle degree in the Portuguese higher education, belonging to three areas of study: Science and Technology, Social and Human Sciences, and Arts and Humanities. Exploratory factor analysis pointed to a six-factor structure related to three dimensions: Cognitive-Creative, Motivation and Learning Strategies, Persistence, Social Interaction, Search for Excellence, and Cultural Interest. Reliability indexes (Cronbach's alpha) for each of these dimensions are adequate. The results are discussed and guidelines are presented for future studies.

Relationship between Attention and Performance in Reading, Writing and Arithmetic in Children This study sought to verify the relationship between attention (selective and sustained visual) and school performance (reading, writing and arithmetic). We evaluated 258 students from the 1st to the 9th year of elementary school in Brazilian public and private schools, with a mean age of 10.33 years (SD=2.52). The students were evaluated by the Bells Test – children's version (BT) and by the School Performance Test second edition (SPT-II). Test scores were correlated by the Pearson correlation coefficient, considering the level of significance of p<0.05. There were significant positive correlations of weak intensity between BT and SPT-II total scores and significant negative correlation of weak intensity between BT errors and omission scores and total SPT-II scores. An observable relationship between the constructs studied exists; however, it is suggested that future investigations use different methods to evaluate other skills related to school performance and attentional processes.

Neuroticism in hospitalized patients with borderline personality disorder. The Borderline Personality Disorder is more prevale nt among personality disorders in the general population and clinical population. It affects about 6% of patients in primary care, 10% of patients in psychiatric clinics and 20 % among those who were hospitalized (APA, 2013). From the current model of personality perspective, the Big Five, many studies have found that patients with borderline di sorder score higher on Neuroticism facet than in the other facets of this model and th at people without the disorder. This study therefore was to investigate the intensity of b rderline symptoms and differences between the sexes in Neuroticism Factorial Scale (E FN) and its facets in 40 patients with Borderline Personality Disorder admitted to a psychiatric clinic. It was also applied to borderline Symptons List (BSL-23) to evaluate th borderline disorder symptoms. Facets of EFN are: Vulnerability, Psychosocial Mala djustment, Anxiety and Depression. According to the EFN, the facet of Psyc hosocial Maladjustment involve characteristics of borderline personality traits an d could identify the disorder. The results showed a high score in this sample relative to the standard EFN score scale (122.39 ± 12.00).There were no significant differe nc s among the genders, although men have superior averages in the sub-scales of vul nerability (82±72), psychosocial maladjustment(77,27± 25,99) and women in the othe r and in the anxiety scale(82,58±22,34), excluding in both the Depression facet.
