ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to investigate the initial psychometric properties of the Inventory of Anticipatory Coping Skills for Abstinence from Alcohol and Other Drugs (Inventário de Habilidades de Enfrentamento Antecipatório para a Abstinência de Álcool e Outras Drogas – IDHEA‐AD). The total sample included 457 individuals in treatment for problems related to alcohol or crack use. An Exploratory Factor Analysis, Maximum Likelihood Extraction and Promax rotation were used, which produced a structure of 30 items distributed across three factors: “assertiveness and planning for high‐risk substance use situations”, “expression of positive feelings towards abstinence” and “emotional self‐control in adverse situations”. After analyzing validity evidence based on the internal structure and reliability based on internal consistency, it was possible to conclude that this structure included important behaviors for the relapse prevention.

– Assessment of convergent and discriminant validity in computerized decision-making tests The objective of this study was to analyze the convergent and discriminant validity between impulsivity, executive functioning, and decision-making (DM) tests with and without emotional component and and agent centered DM. Through an Instrumental design, 217 participants were evaluated, 64.5% women, between 18 and 30 years of age (M=23.22 ± 2.44). The Principal Component Analysis showed four components that explained 83.88% of variance and grouped the tests as expected. In addition, the correlation study shows that the true DM tests were poorly correlated, suggesting partial convergence between them. No significant correlations were found between true DM testing and DM testing with agent focus, executive function and impulsivity. The results coincide with expectations and previous studies on the subject.

Results of the ENADE and an Assessment of Academic Training in Psychology The objective of the study was to present an evaluation of Psychology education based on a documentary analysis of National Student Performance Examination (ENADE) results in the 2006, 2009 and 2012 editions. Results include 57,687 Psychology course graduates and show an increase in the percentage of students participating in scientific initiation, monitoring and extension activities, but also a decrease in average scores in the exam’s general components and, markedly, on the specific component (falling from 52.7 in 2006 to 37.6 in 2012). It is striking that the performance of students over these years has fallen more in public higher education institutions than in private institutions. These results denounce many weaknesses in Brazilian Psychology education and should serve as an alert for those involved in teaching Psychology, as well as to the institutions representing the category.

MacArthur Stem Story Battery: Child Narratives as Access to Mental Representations The objective of this study was to identify and compare the mental representations of abused and non-abused children based on MSSB narratives, and to evaluate the initial psychometric properties of such instrument. Ninety school age children, from 6-10 years old (M=8.0), participated in the study, of which 30 were victims of mistreatment and 60 were non-victims. The instruments used were the SDQ and MSSB. Mental representations of abused children were portrayed as more negative when compared to non-abused ones, with more aggressive characteristics indicating low emotional regulation and impulsivity in the face of conflicting situations, and more insecure and ineffective care figures. Some items of the MSSB also evidenced an ability to discriminate the groups in a significant way, in addition to presenting good reliability indices. The narratives are shown as a useful resource for the evaluation and planning of therapeutic interventions with these children. Development of new national studies is recommended in order to improve valid techniques and to understand representations in the field of child violence.

Psychological symptom evaluation in accumulation disorder: A case study Accumulation disorder (AD) is characterized by the acquisition of unnecessary items, difficulty in disposing objects, and disorganization of the convivial environment. The case study analyzes personality characteristics and comorbid psychological symptoms in a patient diagnosed with AD. For data collection, a semi-structured interview was used, the Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ-S2), the Young Parenting Styles Inventory (PSI), the Beck Depression Inventory and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BDI-II and BAI, respectively), the Lipp Stress Symptoms Inventory (LSSI), and the Rorschach Method. In the results, we observed the presence of Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMS) belonging to the disconnection and rejection domain, suggesting a connection between AD symptoms and negative emotional experiences experienced by the patient during childhood. In the future, new studies with a cross-sectional design are recommended in order to substantiate the results obtained by the present research.

Transcultural adaptation of the Caregiver's Feeding Styles Questionnaire (CFSQ) This study aims to describe the translation and cross-cultural adaptation procedures of the Caregiver's Feeding Styles Questionnaire (CFSQ) for the Brazilian context. To ensure the procedural quality, five steps were performed: 1. translation of the instrument from the source language to the target language; 2. synthesis of the translated versions; 3. expert/target audience evaluation; 4. reverse translation, and 5. pilot study. We sought to ensure the translation and adaptation properties of the CFSQ semantically and idiomatically, with experiential and conceptual equivalence between the items in the original language and the target language. The internal consistency analysis of the questionnaire indicated instrument accuracy. The results pointed to initial evidence of the instrument’s adequacy in evaluating caregiving styles present during infant feeding in the target population.

Preliminary validity and reliability evidence of the Child Drawing: Hospital – Brazilian version To obtain validity evidence and reliability estimates for a projective measure of stress resulting from hospitalization, the Child Drawing: Hospital – Brazilian version (CD:H) was applied to a sample of hospitalized children and adolescents (n=81) and a school (n=76). Satisfactory indices of inter-rater concordance (0.488 ≥ 0.804) and intra-rater (0.975 ≥ 1) were obtained for the three parts (A – Attributes Quality, B – Attributes Presence or Absence, and C – Global Drawing Assessment) and the total score of the instrument, as well as for internal consistency (α=0.681). The CD:H scores were higher in the hospital sample. Although there was a predominance of Low Level stress in both subgroups, there were more hospital participants with Significant Stress and more cases of Coping in the school group. Thus, validity evidence and initial reliability estimates were obtained for CD:H. Nevertheless, further research is recommended.
