Use of pre-defined architectures for incorporation of aligned carbon nanotubes into epoxy resin 使用预先定义的结构将对齐的碳纳米管结合到环氧树脂中

Carbon nanotubes have been reported to possess outstanding mechanical properties, making them candidates for the next generation of high performance composites. Unfortunately, due to inconsistent nanotube quality, weak interfacial bonding and poor dispersion, current nanotube-based composites fail to realise their anticipated potential. In this study consistent quality nanotubes have been deposited onto preformed substrates of mesh and wire using an optimised large scale catalytic chemical vapour phase deposition apparatus. The bi-directional planar system of nanotubes has then been integrated into an epoxy matrix. This study investigates the interfacial shear strength between aligned carbon nanotubes and epoxy resin. Optimisation of this interfacial region influences the mechanical behaviour of composite materials and has considerable industrial applications in the aerospace and manufacturing industries. The surface chemistry of nanotubes was modified by plasma treatment and monitored using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Mechanical testing with a custom designed adhesiometer suggested a possible improvement in interfacial shear strength. Optical microscopy was used to determine the failure mechanisms between the carbon nanotube and epoxy resin.

A statistical approach for measuring dislocations in 2D photonic crystals 测量二维光子晶体位错的统计方法

In this paper, a comparison between the placement accuracy of lattice atoms in photonic crystal structures fabricated with different lithographic techniques is made. Using atomic force microscopy measurements and self-developed algorithms for calculating the holes position within less than 0.01 nm error, we establish the statistical disorder within such devices.

Fabrication and characterization of hybrid DBPPV-CdSe/ZnS quantum dot light-emitting diodes 混合DBPPV-CdSe/ZnS量子点发光二极管的制备与表征

We have demonstrated the fabrication and characterization of single-layered hybrid polymer-quantum dot light-emitting diodes (PQD-LEDs) with the emissive composite film of 2,3-dibutoxy-l,4-poly(phenylene vinylene) (DBPPV) and CdSe/ZnS core/shell quantum dots (QDs). The electrical and optical characteristics are significantly influenced by the thickness of the emissive layer. When the thickness of composite film is thinned to about 103 nm, the maximum luminance of 4100 cd/m2 as well as maximum luminous efficiency of 1.35 cd/A can be achieved at 9.6 V and 7.6 V, respectively. However, the electroluminescence spectra reveal that the emission contribution is dominated by the emission from DBPPV. A maximum ratio of emission intensity of QDs to that of DBPPV is about 38 %, which indicates the contribution of QDs is minor. In addition, the post- annealing effect on device performance was also investigated. In contrast to previous reports, no obvious improvement can be observed by post-annealing.

Catalyst-free solvothermal synthesis of carbon nanotubes 碳纳米管的无催化剂溶剂热合成

Conventional methods of producing carbon nanotubes are generally limited by the length and quality of the tubes and maybe more importantly, cost. This paper presents the development of solvothermal techniques designed to produce a highly scalable and cost effective method for producing carbon nanotubes in long and highly aligned bundles, without the use of transition metal catalysts. In addition, the nanotubes are prepared from feedstock materials that are otherwise persistent chemical pollutants, making the process of potential interest in environmental remediation.

A supramolecular complex was formed between ruthenium porphyrins and pyridyl-functionalised carbon nanotubes, which were in turn covalently attached to a silicon surface. The surface was characterised by LDI-ToF-MS, UV-vis spectrophotometry and steady-state spectrofluorometric methods.

A multichromophoric ternary complex containing a zinc porphyrin, perylene diimide and a methanofullerene was constructed. The use of a sequential Stern-Volmer analysis was employed to demonstrate the formation of the ternary complex and the energetics of a charge-separated state through a multistep photoinduced electron transfer was investigated.

Preparation of poly(ethylene terephthalate)/montmorillonite nanocomposites films by solution technique 溶液法制备聚对苯二甲酸乙酯/蒙脱土纳米复合薄膜

Poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites were prepared by solution technique using 50/50 phenol/tetrachloroethane as a solvent, assisted with the ultrasonic power to promote the compatibility and dispersion of the montmorillonite in the PET solution. The PET concentrations were varied from 5, 7, and 9 %w/v. Two types of MMT: neat MMT and organoclay; MMT modified with dimethyl dioctadecyl ammonium (2C18-MMT) were used with various amount from 1, 3, 5 and 10 phr to produce nano-scale composites. The effects of PET solution concentration, MMT types (organoclay and neat MMT), and MMT content on the physical, mechanical, and optical properties of the PET/MMT nanocomposites were investigated.

Transcutaneous vaccine delivery has the potential to greatly improve immunization effectiveness and safety. This work characterizes our novel micro-nanoneedles and their payload release profile in vitro and in vivo. We found that these dry-coated micro-nanoneedles quickly deliver the payload to the epidermis.

Engineered gold nanotube membranes for molecular separations 用于分子分离的工程金纳米管膜

An electroless gold deposition method was used to fabricate gold nanotubes within the pores of polycarbonate and porous alumina template membranes. This approach provides control over the pore size of the membrane, with pore sizes being reduced to molecular dimensions. The effect of the pore size and surface chemistry on the transport properties of gold nanotube membranes has been explored. By modifying the membrane with a highly hydrophobic thiol, the separation of hydrophobic and hydrophilic molecules was achieved.

In this work, we studied the proton and arsenic ion implantation-induced intermixing in InGaAsP/InGaAs and InAlGaAs/InGaAs quantum wells. The results were compared and discussed based on the defect formation and evolution process under the different implantation conditions and QW barrier materials.
