The purpose of the work is to obtain a heat-resistant binder with the addition of metakaolin from mineral and man-made raw materials of the Aral Sea region. The results of obtaining alumina cement using kaolin, limestone and alumina-containing waste are presented. Effective compositions of alumina cement in the kaolin-limestone-alumina-containing waste system have been developed. To improve the physico-mechanical properties of a heat-resistant binder, the preparation of metakaolin with its subsequent addition during clinker grinding was investigated. The reliability of the obtained results is confirmed by the use of modern physico-chemical methods.

Structural changes in cerium dioxide, when heated in vacuum in the range of 25‒1600 °C, in air in the range of 25‒1500 °C, and during successive annealing in the range of 1600‒2100 °C in air, followed by quenching in water, were studied. In the crystal lattice of CeO2‒х, the F → F1 phase transformation in vacuum proceeds in the range of 1100‒1600 °C; additionally, at 1200 °C, X-ray lines of the C-type Ce2O3 phase appear. The thermal expansion coefficient of phases of the fluorite type F and F1 in the range of 25‒1500 °C in air, as well as phases of the fluorite type F, F1 and type C Ce2O3 in the range of 25‒1600 °C are determined in vacuum and their dependence on the change in the oxygen content in the CeO2‒х crystal lattice was found. The kinetic conditions for reduction of cerium dioxide in vacuum and oxidation in air are different. The cubic structure of the fluorite type F CeO2‒х, when the samples are heated in air, is preserved up to 1800 °C with the content of anionic vacancies, at 1900 °C the transformation F → F1 occurs. The formation of loops, edge and screw dislocations in the structure of cerium dioxide grains after annealing of samples in the range of 1900‒2100 °C in air were discovered for the first time. The decomposition of the structure F1 into cerium oxide phases of types F and C proceeds at 2100 °C along the height and boundaries of screw dislocations. It was found that fragments of the C-type phase of cerium oxide are located on loops along the height of screw dislocations, which indicates the movement and evaporation of these fragments. When the samples are oxidized at 1600 °C in air, the black-colored C Ce2O3‒х phase in a gradient of different concentrations moves along certain trajectories to opposite ones. grain boundaries, abuts against dislocation loops, bends them, and oxidizes to phases F1 and F. In the structure of polycrystalline cerium dioxide, when heated in vacuum and in air, certain concentrations of defects control phase transformations.

Optimal material and charge compositions of technical ceramics for grinding media have been developed. It has been established that the best indicators of the material composition and technological properties have prototypes of ceramic masses with alumina content from 55,25 to 64,93 wt. % for obtaining mullite ceramics, as well as 65,79 to 74,21 wt. % for obtaining mullite-corundum ceramics. The possibilities of using kaolins of various grades for the development of new compositions of grinding media for low-temperature sintering are shown.

The article presents an overview of the existing types of binders for heat and sound insulation made of glass and mineral fibers. The interest in the development or modification of binders for the manufacture of thermal insulation used in the transport, construction, and industrial sectors is due to increased requirements for their operational characteristics, as well as fire and environmental safety requirements. Trends in the development of binders for fibrous thermal insulation materials that meet modern requirements are indicated: thermal protection systems must have sufficient strength and flexibility to maintain their integrity during manufacture, transportation and installation in target volumes, sufficient elasticity to restore volume after compression, low specific gravity, low coefficient of thermal conductivity, resistance to flame, low smoke emission and resistance to moisture gain during heating and cooling.

Depleted gold-containing sulfide mineral materials can be used in cement production, in the construction industry, in road construction and other sectors of the national economy. This will allow metallurgical enterprises to switch to low-waste or non-waste technology. Studies and practice of ore dressing with a high degree of sulfidity show that gold extraction is directly dependent on the degree of sulfidity of the ore and the content of the main ore sulfide minerals in it. To increase the efficiency of gold extraction, a device for enriching gold-containing sulfide materials using centrifugal flotation is proposed

The properties of the glass phase of fused refractories containing 28‒94 % ZrO2 are given. The influence of the glass phase composition on the main performance properties of refractories ― corrosion resistance and tendency to release defects is considered. It is shown that a decrease in the amount of glass phase in fused baddeleyite-corundum refractories with a simultaneous increase in the amount of ZrO2 leads to an increase in their corrosion resistance and complication of the annealing conditions of products. The properties of the glass phase, which determine the tendency of refractories to release defects, depend mainly on the SiO2 : Na2O, the purity of raw materials and the method of melting the charge. Oxidative melting with the treatment of the melt with an oxygen-gas mixture is a prerequisite for the formation of a refractory glass phase in refractories and the production of products with a low tendency to the release of defects.

The present article discusses ceramic fibers of refractory oxides used as the main components of heat-resistant refractory materials. Obviously, external defects affect the mechanical characteristics of refractory oxide ceramic fibers. In this regard, using optical and electron microscopy, the morphology of the surface of ceramic fibers was investigated, defects were classified, analysis was carried out, the causes of their occurrence were established and methods for their elimination were proposed.
