The classification and list of applications of clay raw materials for the ceramic industry are given. A method of stripping dumpcars from stuck or frozen clay material is proposed. To prevent the sticking of clay raw materials, a special device has been proposed that excludes the contact of the bottom of the body with the clay mass.

Using computer simulation, we studied the influence of the size factor on cracking in refractory linings by the example of steel-pouring ladles of ferrous metallurgy. The stress-strain state of the linings was analyzed at the macroscopic scale without taking into account their discrete structure (individual bricks) and the microstructure of the refractory material. We revealed that the maximum thermally and mechanically induced stresses in the linings are confined to certain regions associated with the design features of the equipment. Due to the distribution of mechanical loads and heat transfer features that regions become macroscopic stress concentrators. However, for small equipment size, these maxima are not sufficiently pronounced, and the stress fields formed by different stress concentrators overlap. Apparently, this is the reason for the relatively chaotic arrangement of cracks in the lining. In large equipment, the stress fields of «construction conditioned» concentrators do not overlap due to the large distance between them. The stresses in these concentrators exceed the background values in the surrounding regions of the lining by an order of magnitude or more. This determines the high probability of the formation of a characteristic fracture pattern with cracking in the vicinity of «construction conditioned» stress concentrators.

The results of studies on the synthesis of aluminum nitride and AlN‒Al2O3‒Y2O3 compositions with a low oxygen impurity content by the SHS method are presented. The dependence of the lattice parameter c of aluminum nitride on the oxygen impurity content is shown. The conditions for the synthesis of AlN‒Y2O3 compositions with a low oxygen content in the structure of aluminum nitride are determined. The dependence of the composition of oxide phases in compositions on the content of yttrium oxide in the reaction mixture is shown. The optimal content of yttrium oxide in the compositions has been determined. The results of sintering AlN‒Al2O3‒Y2O3 composite powders with different oxygen content in the aluminum nitride structure are shown.

A composite containing sialon (β-sialon) and nitride phases (β-Si3N4, Si2N2O) was prepared by self-propagating hightemperature synthesis from a powder mixture of aluminum ferrosilicon and microsilica. The effect of microsilica on the nitriding of aluminum ferrosilicon, the phase composition of nitrided products, and the combustion temperature was studied. The composition of the powder mixture necessary for the efficient synthesis of the sialon phase in the combustion mode has been determined. Ill. 5. Ref. 32.

A simplified method is proposed for determining the structural parameters of composite ceramics using porcelain as an example from the average coordination number of random packing and optical microscopy data. This eliminates the ambiguity in the representation of structural parameters. The calculated average distance between quartz particles in porcelain agrees well with experiment. Ill. 1. Ref. 9.
