The marine engineer activity is associated with the need for communication in a multinational crew. The article deals with professionally-oriented foreign language training of marine engineers in the context of international conventions. The description of the developed guidebook "Oil Record Book" is given. The original professional situations offered in the guidebook for analysis show the conditions of the activity of mechanical engineers when they perform the main typical tasks of their professional activity and contribute to the improvement of foreign language speech competence. The basic unit of training is a typical professional task as a fragment of the subject context, the development of which includes not only the subject, but also the social component of the marine engineer future activity. The results of the work on the marine specialists training on the basis of the developed guidebook "Oil Record Book" as a means of forming competencies in the conditions of mastering typical tasks of professional work are analyzed. The features and dynamics of the development of professional foreign language communicative competencies are studied

The article discusses the prospects for the use of biofuels as an alternative fuel for marine diesel engines. The results of the analysis of applied technologies for the production of biodiesel are presented. The expediency of using a hydrodynamic mixer as a device that ensures the intensity of the transesterification reaction in the production of biodiesel is substantiated. A technological scheme of a laboratory plant for the production of biodiesel has been developed. The results of laboratory studies to determine the optimal material balance of the transesterification reaction for the production of biodiesel in a plant equipped with a hydrodynamic mixer are presented. The main indicators of the interesterification reaction (viscosity, flash point, sediment height) for a plant equipped with a hydrodynamic mixer have been determined. The optimal mass ratio of the transesterification reaction has been established, which ensures the best quality indicators of the resulting biodiesel and allows evaluating the efficiency of the hydrodynamic mixer used in the plant. Recommendations are given on the ratio of vegetable oil and methanol in the production of biodiesel. The best oil/methanol ratio, in terms of biodiesel yield and quality, is 7.5:1. The use of traditional petroleum fuels mixed with biodiesel can be seen as an effective way to reduce air pollution from ships and ensure compliance with the rules of the International Maritime Organization

When chartering a fleet in the tramp form of shipping, it is almost impossible to competently draw up a charter without the participation of a freight broker who has universal knowledge in the field of merchant shipping. However, in recent times it has become more and more common to observe that maritime brokerage companies operate chartered vessels on their own, trying to maximize their profits. This is how the name “time charter shipowner” appeared, and this form of activity can be organized without significant financial investments, which, of course, is very attractive for companies involved in fleet operation. The authors of this article analyzed the work of companies involved in the operation of the fleet, and also proposed a model for the process of solving the problem of maximizing profits when chartering a fleet in various segments of the freight market. Also, the authors give options for the combined chartering of the fleet and present the features of the formation of income and expenses of a company operating a fleet in various segments of the freight market

Ventilation systems consist of machines that provide the energy for air circulation (fans), main ducts connected to the suction and exhaust of the fans, branches and distribution components. For machinery spaces related to ships, ventilation systems are vital for the proper functioning of thermal engines used as propulsion systems. Gas turbines are heat engines used as propulsion systems usually for special ships.

At peak loads, transient modes or frequent operation o f the cargo pump, the degradation o f pump components and especially bearings increases. Such modes (especially the first two) o f operation increase the mechanical vibration o f rolling bearings, which can lead to their premature destruction. The readings are taken during the pump start and filtered by the average value, converting it into a wavelet packet.
