This paper reports an experimental study of hydrodenitrogenation, at 330-350 °C and 50-150 atm total pressure, of carbazole on alumina-supported molybdenum nitride catalyst. The kinetics of C-N hydrogenolysis is analyzed to obtain rate expression for C-N hydrogenolysis which is a rate-determining step in equilibrium of the hydrogenation. Rate equations of the Langmuir-Hinshelwood type were compared with the rate dat using a non-linear leat-squares regression technique.

Sol-gel synthesis is a versatile approach in preparing catalytic materials because it offers better control over their textural properties and sample homogeneity in multicomponent systems. Aerogels, materials that are obtained by drying wet gels with supercritical extraction, offer additional advantages such as high specific surface area and thermal stability. We have explored some of these advantages by preparing aerogels of vanadia, titania and silica and evaluating their SCR activities.

Our first investigation deals with NO reduction by CH 4 over Li/MgO catalysts in the presence and absence of gas-phase O 2 . A family of MgO and Li/MgO catalysts was prepared by reported methods, and the specific activities, activation energies, and observed reaction kinetics are discussed in this paper.

The effects of metal leaching on catalyst characteristics are reported and discussed. Samples of spent catalyst and chemically treated catalysts were characterized for surface area, porosity and chemical composition. The influence of chemical treatment on the distributuion of foulant metals (V and Ni) and the active metals (Co and Mo) within the catalyst pellet was examined by electron microphobe analysis. The samples were also tested for HDS activity recovery as a result of the rejuvenation process.

This papers deals with the use of ruthenium sulfide based catalysts in the hydrotreating process. The authors give an overview of the studies they have carried out in their laboratory concerning : the characterization of active sites and the nature of adsorbed hydrogen species, the properties of ruthenium sulfide supported on alumina or dispersed in zeolite, the ability to form solid solutions either in the supported or unsupported state.
