This paper reports an experimental study of the capability of molten salt reactions to obtain in one step promoted hydrotreating catalysts. Preparation and characterization of catalysts are described, catalytic properties are determined by conversion of thiophene, tetraline and n-pentylamine. It is deduced that one step synthesis in molten nitrates for the preparation of zirconia supported catalysts provides high surface area with an enhanced thermal stability for these new catalysts

This paper describes results from a study of the effect of a variety of additives (Li, Mg, B and Si) and/or impregnation stabilizers (P,citric acid, and hydrogen peroxide) in alumina supported Ni-Mo and Co-Mo hydrodesulfurization catalysts on benzothiophene desulfurization activity. Correlations of HDS activity with surface area, pore size and Mo gradient as determined by XPS are proposed.

This paper presents details of characterization and testing of hydrotreating catalysts prepared using synthetic and naturally occuring smectite clays. It is demonstrated that catalyst support materials made by modifying gamma-alumina with pillared and delaminated clays provide greater resistance to deactivation.

The hydrotreating reactions performed under high hydrogen pressure constitute an important part in the petroleum refining for producing clean fuels adapted to the market. The aim of this study is to obtain correlations between the catalytic results (activity and selectivity) and some chemical and structural characteristics of sulfided catalysts in which electron donor or acceptor elements have been added to the MoS 2 -Al 2 O 3 standard formulation. Experimental results are presented and discussed. It is deduced that additives like phosphorus, alkaline ions or fluorine have some effects on this catalyst.

This paper reports an experimental study of the hydrotreatment of an Illinois n°6 coal-derived naphta using supported (gamma-Al 2 O 3 ) transition metal sulfides of the second and third rows of the Periodic Table. The activities of the catalysts prepared for this study are compared under the same experimental conditions to those of commercial Ni-Mo/Alumina and Co-Mo/Alumina catalysts.

This paper reports an experimental study of CoMo catalysts (used in hydrodesulfurization catalytic process) properties. A systematic approach was adopted and the influence of the following parameters : temperature, Co-loading, presence/absence of Mo, support material (carbon or alumina) and, in case of alumina, the application of a calcination procedure, was investigated. A structural model of the active phase is proposed and the implications of this model are discussed.
