Abstract : According to the order receipt report over the past 10 years the overseas construction business total trades were 54.05% and 68.09% done by the Middle East and other industrial facilities respectively. In the Middle East based on data collected in 2014 the country with most overseas construction business is Saudi Arabia with 34.10%, and the industrial facility occupies the larger share with 56%. Overseas construction business is suffering from a reduction in work orders in the Middle East because of the recent oil price reduction. At this point of view, it is necessary to consider economy fluctuation for the diversification of construction type and work orders. This study analyzed, focusing in Saudi Arabia how the economical fluctuations of nations of progress can affect overseas construction business’ trade orders. The analysis results demonstrated that most construction types depends on GDP, investment fund. Also industrial facility can be substituted with Architecture and civil engineering. This work is expected to be used as a basis for trade order amount maintenance and construction type diversification.

Abstract : International construction market have quantitatively increased and have reached up to 700 Bil. US$ through active effort of construction firms and government. In spite of this increase, substantiality issue has been constantly disputed due to qualitative problems such as lack of capability and technical shortage. To overcome these problems, many methods in performing quantitative growth and qualitative substantiality of overseas construction are being researched which showed that selection of subcontractors in general contractor is regarded as a very important success factor. However, it is difficult to make a reasonable decision for selecting the subcontractors due to the lack of evaluation standards and reliability. This study proposes an improved evaluation system through adjustment of the evaluation indicators using correlations analysis and multiple regression analysis with pre-qualification and performance evaluation of 121 firms in 6 countries. Abstract : The utilization of Building Information Modeling (BIM) has increased in order to enhance the integration of information for management and resources throughout the construction projects. Therefore, various BIM softwares have been used under open BIM environments in the building and plant construction industry. However, it has obstructive factors due to the lack of interoperability. In order to address this problem, this study conducted an interoperability analysis of BIM software focused on user-defined properties for enhanced function and efficiency. Result of the analysis shows that authoring tools have more interoperability problems than viewer tools and simulation tools have. In terms of interoperability, user-defined properties outperforms than those of system basic properties and logic data. Therefore, it was found that functional improvement and workload minimization in BIM can be attained by applying the GBS (an user-defined property for automatic manipulation of BIM proposed by Jung et al. 2013) that enables automatic link between geometric data and non-geometric data. In this respect, this study concludes that the application of user-defined property (e.g. GBS) can be an effective method for information integration throughout construction projects.

: In Korea, a series of noise-reduced aluminum forms are being recently used in apartment housing construction. However, their complicated and time-consuming work processes, and the noise which is still generated due to the inherent property of aluminum when especially installing and dismantling them have been pointed out as a problem to be certainly solved for increasing their practical use in construction sites. The primary objectives of this study are proposing an optimal conceptual design of a newly designed noise-reduced aluminum form and verifying the technical feasibility by conducting a working mock-up drive experiment. Thus, conventional noise-reduced aluminum forms have been analyzed and three conceptual designs of a newly noise-reduced aluminum forms have been deducted. AHP has been applied to a survey data collected by interviewing field experts. A trade-off analysis results have shown that ‘Noise-reduced System Aluminum Form with a Drop-down Floor Post and Adaptive Beam’ the highest weights of safety(0.52), work convenience(0.54) and thus selected. The suggested conceptual design in this study improved problems of conventional system aluminum forms. It is also expected that the suggested design will be used as a reliable guideline for the actual development of an aluminum form that ensures noise-reduce, work convenience and labor safety.

: The current remodeling cost estimation process is not only dependent on the historical data of new building construction, but it also has a poor linkage with risk-based estimation approach. As such, there is a high risk of falling short of initial budget. To overcome this, a risk-based estimation approach is necessary by providing a probabilistic estimation in consideration of the potential risk factors in conducting the remodeling projects. In addition, the decision-making process should be linked with the risk-based estimation results in stead of intuitive and/or experience-based estimation. This study provides a probabilistic estimation process for residential remodeling projects by developing a detailed methodology in which a step-by-step approach can be achieved. The new proposed estimation approach can help in decision-making for remodeling projects in terms of whether to proceed or not, by effectively reflecting the potential risk factors in the early stage of the project. In addition, the study can enhance the reliability of the estimation results by developing a sustainable estimation process model where a risk-based evaluation can be accomplished by setting up the cost-risk relationship database structure.

Abstract : This paper shows procedure and strategies to improve military facilities and local residents’ welfare through a civil-military sustainable cooperation project. Military installations tend to impede urban developments, so that a few civil compliant have been often filed. Meanwhile, it is sometimes impossible to relocate military units due to their own unique purpose, even though they belong to core sites of civil developments, which are generally indispensible due to urban expansion, magnified road networks and so on. The solution to offset these conflicts between civil and military demands, which are associated with military units and urbanization surrounding them, is to establish sustainable strategies which enable both civil and military be beneficial. In this study, it is described, decision making procedure to make some facilities of a military unit be better as well as promote local residents’ welfare through securing high-quality sports facilities. Delphi-technique and Paired Comparison Method are used to collect civil and military opinions regarding sustainable agreements. As a case study, a civil military cooperation project between a military unit and a local government is introduced. With successful projects, it is expected that the better installations could lead positive images of a military unit, provide advanced athletic environments for both local residents and military personnels, and lessen defense cost to maintain them. Moreover, this project will go down as a paragon of civil military sustainable cooperation.

Abstract : Design modification is one of the elements that must be controlled in the process of any construction project. Especially a military facility project comes with more obstacles than private work due to the unique characteristics and closeness of the military. As there are both the project manager and the user within the ordering body, it is likely to have difficulties unless communication is conducted smoothly. The reason is that such issues regarding communication lead to design modification and it will result in the user's dissatisfaction. Thus this study aimed to identify the elements that generally cause design modification by analyzing characteristics of military projects from the status of current project contracts, analyzing past elements that lead to design modification and comprehensively researching responds from the survey on operators of facility projects. It is expected that loss from design modification of military facility projects is reduced by proposing feasible and practical improvements.
