The surnames of the Miziakivski Khutory village are divided into two groups: ones derived from appellatives and others from onyms. Particularly surnames that are derived from appellatives contain lexical items that can be derived from personal appellatives (when the common name acquired individualizing features in a one-step process) and non-personal appellatives (there is a two-step anthroponymization). Surnames motivated by appellatives with personal significance : surnames that characterize the names of people by their external features; surnames that characterize the names of people by their internal features; surnames that indicate profession, type of occupation and social class; surnames that indicate the place of origin or residence and the specifics of their appearance in a local community. 2.Surnames motivated by appellatives with non-personal significance: surnames based on flora names; surnames associated with faunal names; surnames based on household items; surnames derived from clothing names; surnames associated with time concepts and natural phenomena. As a result, we were able to analyze 240 anthropo-units derived from personal and impersonal appellatives. It was found that the most common surnames in the Miziakivski Khutory village are those derived from fauna names, names of professions, type of occupation, and social class. It is worth noting that the study of surnames of this type is an important issue in the scientific study of Ukrainian anthroponymy, which is focused on enriching and deepening this segment of the lexicon. In the future, it is planned to study surnames derived from names, word-structural analysis of surnames of the Miziakivski Khutory village, Vinnytsia district, Vinnytsia region, which are an important component of the Ukrainian, in particular Podillia anthroponymic system.

The article reveals the problem of unmotivated English borrowings, in particular, their subgroups, which, given the etymology, are treated as pseudo-anglicisms. The lexico-semantic context of pseudo-anglicisms – anglo-latinism donat and anglo-greekism hype – is revealed against the socio-cultural background of the language-source and specific Ukrainian equivalents are proposed as an actualization of Ukrainian linguistic thinking. Taking into account the different degree of lexico-semantic assimilation, the anglicisms (or pseudo-anglicisms) involved in the analysis are grouped into three categories: barbarization, assimilated borrowing, persononomination: Barbarization is a borrowing with an existing and unattracted equivalent in translation dictionaries, as well as with a new specific equivalent, its search and approbation (64.6%): аб’юз – насильство, аутфіт – стрій, афіліація – належність (abuse – violence, outfit – clothing, affiliation – belonging). Assimilated borrowing – the possibility of replenishing the synonymous series through shades in meaning and the nomination of a new concept in the receiving language (16.2%): офшор – безподаткова територія, тренд – напрям, мода, тенденція, футбол – копаний м’яч (offshore – tax-free territory; trend – direction, fashion, tendency; football – kicked ball). Persononomination – is a newly created term by an author in the English language (and at the same time new realia in the receiving language), i.e., persononomena (19.2%). Such lexemes have their specific authors and the author’s motivation for naming: блог – щоденник, журнал, гендер – соціостать, лайфхак – навід, порада, підказка (blog – diary, magazine; gender – social class; life hack – hint, advice, tip). The percentage ratio, in particular the largest number of borrowings at the level of barbarization (64.6%), assimilated borrowings to a lesser extent (16.2%) and only 19.2% of persononomena due to the lack of corresponding concept or realia in the receiving language, testifies about a very low level of attracting the resources of the receiving language and the unconditional admiration of Ukrainians for someone else’s unmotivated vocabulary. Any borrowings in the language should be interpreted through the prism of the national principle, which consists in the constant actualization of one’s own capabilities, which open up to the Ukrainian language a continuous path to renewal and enrichment.

In 1920-1940 the prose of writers who went through the horrors of the First World War and recreated the spiritual and moral trauma of young men who found themselves on the front lines and learned to kill and survive in war conditions was widely recognized. The concept of the so-called “lost generation” appears, its representatives are united by the theme of spiritual breakdown, which in a few years at the front turned yesterday’s schoolchildren, full of romantic dreams and patriotic ideas, into tough men who desperately try to find their place in new life realities after their return. Unfortunately, the younger generation in Ukraine, which is also forced to go through all the horrors of a brutal war, faced similar problems and existential conditions. However, today we can state that there are significant differences in the worldview and behavior of those young people who were hardened by difficult trials even during the Revolution of Dignity. Young people who manage to survive the Russian-Ukrainian war in the future, just like their generational predecessors, may face new challenges. They will also have to find their place in peaceful life, learn to deal with psychological injuries. However, there is great hope that this generation will be “non-lost” and will overcome all post-war trials with dignity. In the article, the work of the young Ukrainian poet, soldier of the 68th chasseur brigade, eco-activist, the author of the already legendary poem “To my daughter” Pavlo Vyshebaba is considered in the context of the concepts of “lost” and “non-lost” generation. Pavlo Vyshebaba is a vivid representative of a cohort of young people who also faced numerous trials, but one would like to believe that they turned out to be psychologically stronger than their predecessors.

The article is devoted to interlingual and intercultural communication in the training of specialists in Germanic philology. The relevance of the research is conditioned by the search for effective ways of training modern professionals in the field of Germanic Studies. The aim of the article is to substantiate the necessity of revising the content of foreign language education with a focus on linguistics and intercultural communication. Intercultural communication is interpreted as a complete mutual understanding between two participants in a communication act who belong to different national cultures. The authors point out that in intercultural communication, it is not the culture that comes into contact, but the person who is the representative and mediator of intercultural interaction, i.e. intercultural communication is the relationship that develops between people from different cultures in situations of language interaction. Cultural competence is considered to be the most important element of communicative competence necessary for cultural dialogue, which means tolerance in all situations of communication, the ability to choose the right tone in communicating with representatives of other cultures, appropriate communication strategies and forms of self-presentation. The authors considered the condition of effective intercultural communication from linguistic and extralinguistic points of view. The article concludes that it is necessary to jointly study language as a system of symbols and a tool for communication and culture as a system of values, worldview and behavior of native speakers. The authors of the article suggest introducing such disciplines as «Linguocultural studies» and «Ethnolinguistics» into the curriculum of Germanist training. It is proposed to use macrosociological, microsociological, anthropological, tourism, and educational approaches in the teaching of these disciplines.

The purpose of the research is to determine the specificity of the emotion of anger, characteristic of conflict communication (based on the material of Ukrainian and English phraseology). The research material is 82 phraseological units (45 Ukrainian and 37 English). Anger is an emotion characteristic of conflict communication (representation using various linguistic means of the process of creating and deploying a communicative space caused by the clash of different views, needs, and values of linguopersons, which develops into a contradiction of varying degrees of sharpness). Its constitutive features are aggressiveness, tension, impulsiveness, energy, activity, strength, mostly a clear focus on a non-specific subject (a specific object, a specific circumstance, a specific phenomenon, etc.), usually negative functionality in communication. The emotion of anger in the material of Ukrainian and English phraseology is manifested in 4 main aspects: 1) active aggression (expressed procedurally, by certain actions), in particular verbal (33 PhU); 2) anger as a momentary or permanent feature of the subject of conflict communication (27 PhU); 3) anger, explained with the help of a person’s appearance (mostly – with a look) (14 PhU); 4) a feeling of calmness after a state of anger (8 PhU). Anger as a process, an action is more characteristic of the English-speaking emotional picture of the world; at the same time, the verbalization of the transfer of anger by appearance, look, as well as the state of calmness are characteristic features of Ukrainian phraseology in the first place; the description of anger as a sign of personality is equally significant for both Ukrainian and English phraseology. The emotion of anger has a powerful conflictogenic (which can cause conflict communication) and actually conflict (which directly embodies conflict communication) potential.

Cultural, political, economic ties between peoples contribute to the emergence of mutual borrowing. Many lexemes in the Ukrainian language come from Polish, and the Polish language, in turn, borrows from Ukrainian. Lexical borrowings from the Ukrainian language in Polish written records appeared lay for a long period of XVI-XIX centuries. Ukrainian lexical elements had an influence on the formation of the lexical composition of the Polish literary language, which was especially noticeable in the period of romanticism in the work of representatives of the «Ukrainian school» in Polish literature. This article examines Ukrainian lexical borrowings in the literary Polish language on the basis of «Wielki słownik wyrazów obcych i trudnych», their matter, semantics, grammatical adaptation, the connotation of lexemes, and above all the etymology of borrowings. The dictionary does not always indicate the mediating functions of one or another language, including Ukrainian, in the borrowing process. In this regard, some Turkicisms that entered the Polish language through Ukrainian are presented as Ukrainianisms. But the majority of lexemes, which the source dictionary defines as Ukrainianisms, have a Turkic origin, which suggests the mediating role of the Ukrainian language. Ukrainianism are mainly related to the subject of «man», as well as to his activities, in particular domestic and military, demonstrate equivalence of semantics and belong to oral borrowings, assigned mostly in Polish to a lesser extent. Among the borrowings there are obsolete and polysemous words. The article emphasizes the historical process of language integration, particularly Slavic languages.

The article justifies the importance of the practice of daily reading against the background of consumption of “quick” information from social networks, available video content and television. The relevance and urgency of the formation of reading skills is emphasized in view of the “Strategy for the development of reading for the period until 2032 “Reading as a life strategy”, approved by the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. The article is devoted to the characteristics of difficulties in learning to read in English and the description of ways to overcome them. The authors analyzed the main causes of difficulties in teaching Ukrainian students to read in English in view of the differences in the sound and letter composition of these languages. The necessary prerequisites for successful learning to read have been determined. Considerable attention is devoted to the characteristics of phonemic awareness as a necessary skill for successful learning to read in any language. Phonemic awareness is the ability to notice, think about, and work with the individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. This includes blending sounds into words, segmenting words into sounds, and deleting and playing with the sounds in spoken words. Explicit teaching of phonological awareness in early years can eliminate future reading problems for many students. The authors gave examples of various exercises for the formation of reading micro-skills. Special attention is paid to the strategy of multisensory leaning, which incorporates different activities in teaching reading based on seeing, hearing, moving, touching, reading and writing. Multisensory approach is overall beneficial to the learners’ academic development as it includes a wide spectrum of highly motivational, interactive and entertaining activities. Such activities as Sound Chain, Sound and Pound, Key Vowel, Catch the Sound, Paddle Pop, Syllable Segmenting and Blending are described and carefully exemplified in the article.

The article is devoted to the functions of local and temporal prepositions in German. Space and time are fundamental concepts that exist in the human mind, which explains the importance of studying them. Understanding and describing spatial and temporal relations in different languages is of particular interest both in cognitive and linguistic terms. The study of prepositions that convey spatial and temporal relations makes it possible to identify the patterns of spatial and temporal perception of the world, refracted in the meanings of these language units, and helps to reveal the system of concepts with which a person comprehends the world around him, which is important for professional translators. The relevance of the study is that it is devoted to little-studied problematic semantics – the problematic meanings of spatial and temporary prepositions. The object of the research is the system of spatial and temporal prepositions of the German language. The subject of the research is the semantic functions of prepositions, expressive spatial and temporal relations. The purpose of this study is to identify the features of the spatial and temporal perception of the world by native speakers of the German language by describing and comparing the semantic functions of the spatial and temporal prepositions of the German language. The article considers the main aspects of the study of prepositions within the framework of modern linguistics in order to determine the basic theoretical postulates of the study, and also determines the specificity of the grammatical and lexical meanings of prepositions. The authors of the article analyzed research approaches to the study of the semantic structure and functionality of prepositions. In addition, the categories of space and time are considered in order to determine the place and role of prepositions in the expression of spatial and temporal relations. The article reveals the features of the spatial and temporal perception of the world by German speakers, which are reflected in the semantics of local and temporal prepositions.

The article is devoted to the study of the role of corpus linguistics in the teaching of foreign languages, in particular English. It defines the main aspects of corpus linguistics, considers the corpus approach as a method of teaching foreign languages, its advantages and disadvantages, gives a brief history of corpus linguistics as a branch of linguistics, and gives examples of possible tasks based on linguistic corpora. The article presents the tasks of the corpus approach, which are related to the teaching of foreign languages, its main characteristics, which determine its reliability and validity, are indicated. By analyzing researches on corpus linguistics, the authors summarized the typology of corpora. The article substantiates the expediency of using the corpus approach in teaching a foreign language in higher educational institutions. The authors established that the use of corpora in the work of students with the involvement of the inductive method contributes to the students’ awareness of the main language patterns and the development of linguistic intuition, while the study material is authentic texts. The authors revealed the possibility of using a direct and indirect corpus approach in the formation of lexical and grammatical skills of students. Thus, the direct use of this method may involve the teaching of corpus linguistics to university students as a purely academic subject, the performance of certain tasks or exercises using concordance programs, and the implementation of individual research projects of students. The indirect corpus approach includes material development and language testing. The article contains information about special software that can be used to implement training on the main types of tasks that can be offered on the basis of these programs.

The article presents the results of the study of the “Russian-Ukrainian war” concept semantic field based on the material published by leading Ukrainian informational Internet resources. The researched concept is important in the modern conceptual sphere. It will keep a special place in the picture of the world of the Ukrainians’ next generations. Content analysis and statistical analysis were used as the main research methods. The second one was implemented with the Google search engine tools that specialized in the mathematical calculation of the frequency of language units use. The analysis of the semantic organization of the concept of “Russian-Ukrainian war” is based on the theoretical foundations of the field conception. Since the verbal explication of the concept of “Russian-Ukrainian war” in the info-media space goes beyond the linguistic grouping, united by paradigmatic semantic relations between words, and is determined by a non-linguistic situation that has various aspects, the description of this linguistic and mental construct is carried out in terminology semantic field. It has been determined the analytical semolex, which is the titular name of the concept – a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Moreover, it was found that the content of the linguistic and mental construct objectifies the semantic field, in which the thematic groups of language embodiments of the main content components are clearly distinguished: “aggressor”, “defenders of Ukraine”, “weapons”, “Ukrainians at war”, “actions occupiers”, “crimes of the occupiers”, “consequences of the war”, “tragedies of the war”, “events of the war”, “international reaction to the Russian-Ukrainian war”. Lexical units, analytical semolexes, and word combinations belonging to thematic groups do not occupy the same positions in the structural model of the studied concept. Eleven nominations represent the core of the linguistic and mental image of the Russian-Ukrainian war in the Ukrainian picture of the world. It is supplemented and detailed by the core zone of the concept, which includes twenty-eight verbalizers of the conceptual features of the Russian-Ukrainian war, which are currently relevant in the public consciousness of Ukrainians.
