Colloquial and vulgar expressions as part of Polish language of some articles placed on the travel (mountaineering) blogs Summary The aim of the paper is to make an overwiev of the colloquial and vulgar expressions excerpted from some articles placed on the travel (mountaineering) blogs as well as to make an attempt to answer some questions concerning the reasons author-travelers have to talk about their experience using these phrases. Collected examples have been grouped into five categories: 1. mobility, attempt to reach destination, achieve the goal, 2. weather conditions, 3. equipement, 4. physical and psychological condition, 5. physiological needs. These categories were presented in that order. The backdrop of these reflections includes discussion on Polish language norm of the articles placed on the Internet.

Dynamics of Image of Jarosław Kaczyński in the pages of weekly “Newsweek Polska” Summary In the article the author describes the dynamics of Jarosław Kaczyński’s image, which has been created by the journalists of the weekly “Newsweek Polska” in 2005–2007. Then the image is compared to the contemporary one (2017). The author notices double dynamics: diametric change in the image’s connotation from the positive to the negative one in the period of 2005–2007 and extended negative connotation of the image in the texts from 2017 year comparing to 2007 year. It seems, that the cause lies in the reprofiling of the weekly and in its transformation into engaged political actor.

Problems with respect to building the Polish database of Anglicisms in the context of the GLAD network Summary The aim of this paper is to present the rational behind the international project GLAD (Global Anglicism Database) and to highlight different problems with respect to building the Polish Anglicism database. The data is collected from A Dictionary of European Anglicisms. A Usage Dictionary of Anglicisms in Sixteen European Languages edited by M. Görlach in 2001/2005, Słownik zapożyczeń angielskich w polszczyźnie edited by E. Mańczak-Wohlfeld (2010), various Polish lexicons of foreign words (e.g. Wielki słownik wyrazów obcych PWN edited by M. Bańko in 2003/2018) as well as from both the internet sources, including language corpora, and the contemporary mass media. The problems which arise concern the criteria to determine which Anglicisms should be included in the database. Particular difficulties are found in the case of both internationalisms mistakenly treated as Anglicisms and specialist vocabulary.

Prepositional case government in Polish and Ukrainian: comparative analysis and errors of use Summary The article presents a comparative analysis of the most frequent Polish and Ukrainian prepositions, focusing on their use in both languages and errors in prepositional case government. The author’s teaching practice has clearly shown a range of problems faced by Ukrainians and Poles, who study Polish and Ukrainian respectively.

Phraseologism (tam) gdzie diabeł mówi dobranoc in the dictionary and in texts. Modified forms Summary The purpose of the paper is to present the phraseological unit, which is used for naming and visual demonstration of distant, secluded, hard-to-reach and forgotten places. The subject of analysis are notations of this unit in lexicographic sources, as well as its textual uses (data from the National Corpus of Polish). Particular attention has been paid to conscious and deliberate modifications of the phraseological unit, which were applied in titles: innovations concerning exchange, development, shortening, regulation and contamination. Also, semantic changes resulting from the use of the phraseological unit in a modified form have been analysed.
