This study deals with how women are represented and the qualities and implications ofthis representation in the behavior of the hero in Hazrat Al-Mohtarm (1975) by NaguibMahfouz, which is a novel that presents a very complex human experience. As for whythe woman is in this novel, the woman achieves a remarkable presence in the life of theprotagonist, Othman Bayoumi, who bestows special developments on his life that elicitshis reactions to life's issues and manifestations, and then in the representation of the idea of work and its remarkable embodiment. The study deals with the idea of representations through four main axes: representations of sin, representations of desire, representations of sincere love, and representations of disappointment and loss. So access to the hero comes through an understanding of the dimensions of the woman's personality in the novel. The women of "Othman Bayoumi" were distributed on these four axes: Sayyidah, Qadria, Sunni, Asilah, Ansiyah, and Radaa. The study attempts to address the following questions: To what extent does the presence of women in this novel form a balance between the semantic and the artistic? What is the peculiarity of the presence of women in the novel? What effect does the presence of women have on shaping the features of the main character? What is the position that this representation appears in the novel? This article explores these ideas through the concepts of narratives in analyzing thecharacters at different levels: psychological, cultural, and feminist dimensions. Thereflections of minor characters help shape and develop the protagonist of the novel. Thestudy concludes that language highlights the effect of the personality on the realizationof the idea of the text, as the presence of the woman decides the features of theprotagonist in its semantic and artistic dimensions, and that the privacy of the womanappears in parallel with the specificity of the job and her delusions, which creates anexciting attraction between the presence of women and the job in one context. Keywords: Novel, Hazrat Al-Mohtarm, Representations, Central protagonist, Woman.

This research is based on the recent Hebrew translations of the Holy Quran: Al-Adawiand Al-Basul’s translations. In this research, I critically analyze these two translations inlight of three phenomena of the Arabic rhetorics; specifically, antonymy, synonymy, andpolysemy. Based on this research, I conclude that both translators did not consider theabove mentioned phenomena for various reasons. First, it is because of the inability toconvey the intended meanings on the part of the translators. Second, it is because of theinadequacy of the Hebrew language compared with Arabic since the latter has morelexical items with a wide variety of meanings. However, it should be noted that bothtranslators put a significant effort in translating the Holy Quran to Hebrew. Keywords: Translation, Hebrew language, Al-Adawi, Al-Basull, Antonymy,Synonymy, Polysemy.

This research discusses how both theoretical linguistics and computational linguisticsprocess natural language by clarifying the foundations which the two fields are based on.Also, this study attempts to analyze the differences and convergences that can lay a clearfoundation for linguistics to be computed by studying the goals and operationalprocedures in different language systems such as morphology, phonetics, syntax andsemantics. The research consists of an introduction and two sections. The first one istheoretical, explaining the linguistic theory with its two parts: Arabic and Western. Thenthe concept of computational linguistics and its role in studying, understanding, andgenerating the natural language processing is explored. The second section is applied, discussing the difference between theoretical linguistics and computational theories interms of their starting points, their objectives, and the way they process linguisticsystems. This study aims to clarify the concept of illusion and try to explain the interplaybetween appearance and truth in an attempt to highlight the transformation of illusioninto disappointment in Louis-Benoît Picard’s 1801 play The Little City. Picard’s heroes,as in almost all of his dramatic works, oscillate between two situations: the inherited andpreconceived appearance (illusion) and the discovered and experienced reality(disappointment). This may be a constant doubt about the reality of appearances. Thisarticle attempts to explain these two positions established by the playwright in the playso that this duality pushes us to concretize our imagination to put an end to ourmisleading prejudices. Keywords: Louis-Benoît Picard, illusion, appearance, comedy travel, reality, disillusion.

The article discusses the development of art and art movements in Qatar.Throughout the paper, I examine modern and postmodern arts and highlight the roles ofdifferent factors that could influence artists in their move between modern andpostmodern art and vise-versa. The forms of art developed during the modernist andpostmodern periods were influenced by the traits of the people. For example, themodernists constantly searched for the abstract truth of life, while the postmodernists did not believe in the abstract truth. It is important to recognize that postmodern culture is a reaction against the cultureof modernism. The works of postmodern artists create reality, whereas those ofmodernist artists reflect reality. During history, political crisis, natural crisis, economicdevelopment and social move have always played fundamental roles in art practice andmovement in the world. Through studying art movement of the Qatari artist YousefAhmed and his transitions between modern and postmodern art, this paper nalyzes thereasons that might drove post-modern artists to look back at modernism. The paperaddresses this question: why did Yousef Ahmed return to modernism after his hugesuccess as a postmodernist artist? Through looking at the question, we realized that the reason for such move it could be the individuals’ real experiences in the real world.Yousef Ahmed had to look back to modernism to move from metaphor to reality so thathe could better express his attachment to his culture. Keywords: Qatari Culture, Arts in Qatar, Yousef Ahmed, Postmodernism, QatariIdentity

This article re-examines the authenticity of Sayf Bin Omar's account of the ridda amongTamīm, his own tribe. Sayf implies that the main body of Tamīm remained faithful toMadina at the advent of Muhammad's death. However, modern scholars have discreditedSayf's account on the grounds that 1) the Hadīth's critics considered him unreliable;hence rejecting his transmissions altogether. 2) All other Arab historians disagree withhim on this matter. The article conducts an extensive examination into the attitude ofevery single Tamīmī section in the ridda and finds out that Sayf did not minimize theshare of his tribe in the ridda as generally believed. This conclusion serves to reach abetter understanding of that apostasy movement which was attributed to Sajah – asoothsayer who is said to have belonged to Tamīm.Keywords: Tribe of Tamim, Ridda wars, Sayf Bin Omar's Transmission, Early islamichistory.
