This paper discusses the circuits that are incorporated usually in ultra wideband devices (e.g. radar, communication and localization devices). They are studied from the impulse distortion point of view. The following components can be considered: impulse generator, amplifier, sampling circuitry, antennas and timing circuits. Moreover, the environment, where the impulse signal is propagated, is also taken into account. The aim of the paper is to localize sources of the transmitted impulse distortion and formulate design hints or methods of the distortion minimization.

The paper deals with the significant results of the experimental research of the harmonic spectrum of currents and induced voltages at traction permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The experiments were done in a special workplace with a real traction drive for wheel vehicles. The current harmonic spectrums were analyzed by a specialized device on the basis of a central measuring station. The knowledge of marked subharmonic components of stator winding currents is the most significant finding of these experiments. The frequencies of these components are given by frequency multiples of mechanical speeds. The subharmonic components also pass to the DC current at an input site of the traction inverter. This fact is particularly important from the viewpoint of legislative requirements to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of drive with railway interlocking devices.

The paper describes an improved design of hoghorn, which is formed by a sectoral horn, flaring in only one plane, with parabolic cylinder. Hoghorns possess high efficiencies, low levels of back lobe radiations, good impedance matching and reasonable radiation pattern stabilities. However, near-by sidelobes are relatively higher. The numerical results are compared with the measurements. It is shown that slight discrepancies, frequency dependence and high sidelobe levels for one polarization can be diminished by proposed very simple improved design, which reduces parasitic interferences and improves an electromagnetic susceptibility.

This paper is devoted to noise suppression in systems for double station observation of meteors, nowadays known as MAIA (Meteor Automatic Imager and Analyzer). The noise analysis based on acquisition of testing video sequences at different lighting conditions and their statistical evaluation were described in our previous paper. The measurement showed that the type of noise generated by the system is signal-independent in a certain illumination range. The noise and image models in the wavelet domain are based on the Generalized Laplacian Model (GLM) and it is the most convenient to estimate the model parameters using the moment method. Furthermore, the noise component may be modeled by the GLM also in the space domain. Overall, we verified that the GLM allows for modeling various types of probability density functions. In the final section of this paper, the performance of the proposed advanced de-noising algorithm is verified on the real data, which were acquired in the Astronomical Institute.

The paper contains review of electromagnetic field (EMF) sources from the environmental point of view. It shows the simplest methods of EMF measurement and differences between selective and broadband measurements listing its advantages and disadvantages, what is essential for the EMF assessment for the need of monitoring in the environment. The measurement possibilities are also one of the subject taken up in this work. Authors point an important aspect of EMF evaluation which is field intensity changeability in time (periodicity) characteristic for mobile telephony systems related with the subscribers daily activity.

The paper presents results of the missile measurement and shows a possibility how to estimate a horizontal position of the missile. The missile is detected by a set of microwave curtains installed side by side on the top of a steal gate. For missile recognition, required for proper function of active defense system, the missile imprint seems to be important. The imprint of three different missiles is shown and discussed. As the 9 mm bullet's imprint is very simple, the one of the RPG-7 missile is much more complex due to more complicated structure. The measured imprints could be also useful for dynamic electromagnetic phenomena explanation and for missile identification.

The paper shows a procedure for testing large analog circuits or circuits with parasitic parameters via multi-frequency parametric fault diagnosis. To simplify and accelerate calculations the approximate symbolic analysis is used and unknown tested parameters are analyzed in separate frequency bands. Classification of unknown parameters into frequency bands is based on sensitivities. The proposed procedure is shown on parametric diagnosis of an EMI filter.

In the paper we deal with design, modeling and verification of thermostat with particularly thermally insulated chamber, based on Peltier thermoelectric modules (elements). A prototype of the designed thermostat has been realized. Parameters of the regulated system were obtained experimentally. We have developed the reliable model of the complete thermostat with the PSD regulation in the Matlab environment, as well. The model helps to optimize the parameters of the regulator according to desired temperature profiles inside the chamber. Measurements show a good agreement between the model and realized prototype of the thermostat.

Pattern searching and retrieval plays important role in task of content-based audio analysis for requirements of media database management or in surveillance systems for detecting significant audio events and keywords. In the paper, we present algorithm for spotting audio patterns in record, using Hidden Markov Models and Viterbi decoder. Also, two types of probability normalization are presented and compared. Performance of proposed algorithm was evaluated on database of slovak spoken numbers.
