Introduction. The development of the system of teaching foreign languages and cultures in institutions of higher education requires regular updating of the components of this system, in particular, modern technologies for teaching foreign languages and cultures to the students of various specialties. Among such technologies, the edutainment technology stands out for the formation of foreign language linguistic / linguo-sociocultural competences. Purpose. To present the technology of edutainment on the example of a specific exercise using a support, a poem by the French poet Paul Verlaine, as one of the means of this technology and justify the feasibility of using this means. Methods. Reviewing the studies that have already been conducted, analyzing the feasibility of using this technology on the example of specific exercises. Results. The study showed that the edutainment technology, namely its specific means, a poem, can be used during online and offline classes on learning foreign languages and cultures. This technology will contribute to better assimilation of the material, and will enhance student’ interest and motivation. Conclusion. To sum up, the use of poetry in classes as one of the means of the edutainment technology for teaching the French language and culture contributes to the effective formation of students’ lexical and phonetic components of the French-language communicative competence. Further research involves the study of other means of the edutainment technology for teaching the French language and culture to students – prospective philologists and translators, teachers.

Introduction. Researchers have pointed out that dialogue itself may be considered from the point of view of intercultural interaction. This is connected with the process of forming intercultural foreign language communicative competence that at recent times has been frequently carried out through information and communication technologies etc. Due to that, we have chosen as the object of our research the humorous dialogues of the Japanese comic performance genre of manzai, which we retrieved from the educational and entertainment video (one of the means of edutainment technology). Methods. Based on the classification of the peculiarities of the dialogues such as communicative, psychological, and linguistic ones developed by Ukrainian researchers we made an analysis of the Japanese dialogues of manzai genre and distinguished their functional types. Results. The analysis of the mentioned above dialogues revealed that first of all the dialogues may be considered as the ones of the combined type from the point of view of their functions. As well as we have clarified that dialogical unities of the analyzed dialogues often may have combinations of peculiarities such as psychological and linguistic ones or linguistic and communicative ones. Also, we have defined the peculiarity which provides the comic effect in these dialogues and serves as the base for what dialogue of such kind is developing. Conclusion. To sum up, it was found that the mentioned above peculiarities of the dialogues play a significant role in the process of forming intercultural foreign language communicative competence. Therefore, we consider this research useful for developing exercises for Japanese language students to form competence in dialogical speech using the educational and entertainment videos of the Japanese comic performance genre of manzai.

Curriculums, textbooks, and the outlook of teachers play a decisive role in the shaping of confident language use, in the development of balanced language awareness. Purpose. To analyze the information the students of Transcarpathian schools with the Hungarian language of instruction get about the language of their immediate environment from the Hungarian language textbooks used since the 90s of the 20th century, and thus to find out what language awareness is formed by these educational and pedagogical manuals in schoolchildren. Methods. Study and analysis of the Hungarian language textbooks published since the 90s, investigation the ways of dialect phenomenon representation in the manuals created for students of Transcarpathian schools with the Hungarian language of instruction. Results. The manuals convey information to the students considering the characteristics of the local language variants. And the 2005 edition clearly emphasizes the need for a scientific approach, comparing the language variants learned at home and the literary Hungarian language, they work on the formation of situational bilingualism. The latest curriculum and textbooks, however, mean a step back on this long path that can be called successful. Conclusion. The manuals are not suitable for eliminating either the positive or the negative stereotypes and do not convey objective, scientifically founded information about the native language variant of the students. Taking into account the results obtained, it is important to develop curriculums and manuals introducing students of Transcarpathian schools with the Hungarian language of instruction to the peculiarities of local Hungarian and Ukrainian dialects.

The paper proposes a practical framework of conducting the needs analysis as a constituent of exam teaching and discusses how the findings of these surveys can translate into an actual course design. The participants of the study are a group of five Ukrainian school-leavers, studying on an exam preparation course to take the ‘external independent evaluation’ (ZNO exam). The procedure correlated with the ‘triangulation’ theory, which envisages the use of several instruments to analyse learner needs to enhance the validity of their results. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods (questionnaires, diagnostic testing, observations and informal talks) has been applied to assess the outcomes of the needs analysis, which reveals the learners’ motivation, learning needs, as well as the areas of grammar, vocabulary, and subskills that requires further training. The study has showed that in case the instructional design is based on the outcomes of needs analysis, the teacher can take more informed decisions as to have the course tailored to the actual needs of its participants. Such individualized approach turns learners into co-creators of the course and fosters a more effective and purposeful preparation on their part. Further research could focus on fine-tuning the framework of analysing learner needs to the requirements of any specific exam.

Introduction. Among the modern trends in the development of education, there is a growing demand for entertainment projects. In teaching foreign languages and cultures in institutions of higher education, active learning entertainment technologies also occupy a prominent place, because they have significant potential. Purpose. To demonstrate the linguodidactic and socio-cultural potential of using songs and web quests as edutainment technology tools in teaching the Japanese language and culture to university students. Methods. Consideration and practical application of some modern approaches to the use of educational technologies through the example of songs and web quests in order to analyze the features and benefits of their use. Results. The possibilities of using songs in the educational process in the formation of language, speech and socio-cultural competencies were analyzed and demonstrated. There were provided examples of exercises for working with song material and web quests at the beginner and advanced stages of learning the Japanese language and culture. It can be concluded that the use of edutainment technology tools in learning foreign languages and cultures has a positive impact on student’s motivation, promotes the activation and practical application of knowledge, skills and abilities acquired in the learning process and significantly diversifies it. Conclusion. Songs and web quests as tools of educational technologies can perform educational, upbringing and developmental functions and have significant methodological potential as a modern teaching tool that deserves further study. At the same time, we cannot deny the fact that educational technology tools like songs and web quests are not an alternative to academic education.

Introduction. The development of foreign language writing competence in students majoring in linguistics is one of the key tasks in teaching foreign languages and cultures. There is a necessity of improving the educational process, in particular, updating the components of the learning system, which include educational technologies and tools. The purpose of the article is to investigate the use of modern technologies and educational tools in the process of developing students’ foreign language writing competence. Methods. The analytical review of the modern educational technologies involvingvisual learning tools in the educational process. Results. In the context of the communicative approach to teaching foreign languages, our interest is drawn to the technology of using visual supports as one of the modern educational technologies involving visual learning tools in the educational process. The advantage of this technology for teaching foreign language writing is the possibility of integrated development of competence in writing and other language competencies. At the same time, such authentic visual supports as a humorous drawing and an advertising poster provide valuable socio-cultural material, contributing to integrated foreign languages and cultures learning. Three stages of the formation of linguistic competence in writing based on visual aids are proposed: 1) receptive (Découverte), 2) receptive-reproductive (Systématisation), and 3) productive (Production écrite). This methodology is illustrated by a specific example based on humorous drawings. Conclusion. The proposed methodology is based on the basic didactic and methodological principles of teaching and contributes to the effective development of students’ competence in writing. The prospect of further scientific research will be the study of other educational technologies and tools for the development of foreign language communicative competence.

Introduction. Under the influence of increased individual and social responsibility, as well as global and local challenges, volunteering as a responsible social role and a form of active social activity began to develop rapidly in Ukraine. During the Russian-Ukrainian war of 2022, Transcarpathian youth played a major role as volunteers, helping refugees in Transcarpathia, on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, and in Hungary. Purpose. The authors of the article have investigated the young volunteers’ experience before the war, the characteristics of their volunteer activities during the war, and their motivation for the volunteer activity in order to find out the possible positive outcome of their activities. Methods. In the research, the authors have carried out the theme analysis by conducting semi-structured interviews with young volunteers from Transcarpathia. In addition to the theme analysis along the interviews, they also prepared a type-analysis and differentiated between three volunteer-types (regular volunteers with altruistic motivations, regular volunteers with mixed motivations, and occasional volunteers with mixed motivations). Results. The most important result of the research is that young volunteers from Transcarpathia are characterized by strong solidarity for the Ukrainian refugees despite the social tension arising as a result of the war. Another important finding may be that the group of respondents who only started to volunteer during the war might be open to helping others also in the future, and as a result, the culture of volunteering may spread even more in the examined area. Conclusion. Despite all the difficulties and social tensions caused by the war, Transcarpathian young people actively participated in voluntary work and successfully completed the tasks assigned to them.
