A Learning Assessment Applying Pomodoro Technique as A Productivity Tool for Online Learning 应用番茄工作法作为在线学习生产力工具的学习评估

In this era of openness, educational achievement is a top priority for students at all levels; however, what worked in the past to promote accountability in face-to-face settings does not necessarily work in online environments. The need to define and incorporate best evaluation practices in online learning environments is growing as a result of the proliferation of online learning environments and the resulting continued demand for answerability. Assessment is a structured method of documenting learning by concrete data. It is used to improve all facets of student learning by assessing comprehension, skills, dispositions, and beliefs learned from instructional sequences.

MOOC Analytics on Teachers’ Students Centered Teaching Strategies Training: A Study Based on TPD Core Features MOOC对教师以学生为中心的教学策略训练的分析:基于TPD核心特征的研究

This study investigated the impact of using the Desimone framework features as TPD core features to analyse Peer Instruction (PI) and Think Pair Share (TPS) Students Centered teaching strategies training on the MOOC platform for teachers. Data were collected quantitatively and qualitatively from 163 teachers enrolled on training in MOOC for TPD. The features used for analytics were extracted from pre-survey data, discussion forum responses, MOOC report analytics, and face to face class work snapshots. The study results revealed that based on TPD core features from Desimone, the MOOC platform for TPD training encouraged teachers to collaborate and communicate with one another on different strategies and challenges encountered in their face to face classroom. There were also advances in teachers’ face-to-face interaction with students on using Students Centered teaching strategies in their classroom from the analysis of classwork snapshots on the MOOC platform. Despite the challenges of using MOOCs for TPD for some of the teachers, it is observed that implementing TPD based on core features from Desimone increases teachers’ knowledge and skills and improves their students’ learning.

Visual Analysis of Chinese E-commerce Talent Training Research Based on CiteSpace 基于CiteSpace的中国电子商务人才培养研究可视化分析

In recent years, the development of e-commerce has become more diversified, especially the development of cross-border e-commerce and rural e-commerce is particularly prominent. However, the talent training of e-commerce has not kept pace with the development of e-commerce. Therefore, it is necessary to sort out the development, research hotspots and development frontiers in e-commence talent training in China as a whole, so as to provide reference for policy makers to formulate policies and programs for e-commence talent training. By using the method of scientific knowledge mapping and CiteSpace software, this paper makes a visual analysis of 498 research articles on "e-commerce" and "talent training" in CNKI database. The results show that the number of research articles is growing rapidly and continuously, the published journals were concentrated in vocational education and economic journals, and the main research forces included Suzhou Institute of Trade & Commerce and other vocational schools. From the research focus, the keywords are e -commerce talent training, vocational education, cross-border e-commerce, rural e-commerce, Internet + and so on. In terms of research evolution, 1999-2004 is the preliminary development stage, 2005-2014 is the rising development stage, and 2015 to now is the vigorous development stage. In terms of research trend, due to the development of e-commerce and policy guidance, rural e-commerce and cross-border e-commerce have been fully developed, which has great research potential and value in recent years.

Thinking on the Cultivation of Innovative Talents in Computer Majors Facing Big Data Applications 面向大数据应用的计算机专业创新型人才培养的思考

In order to solve the problems in the training of big data talents in colleges and universities, such as unclear training objectives, not close combination of practical teaching and industrial enterprises, and low training quality, this paper proposes a training mode of innovative computer talents oriented to the application of big data. The mode to train applied talents as the goal, USES the OBE's education idea, through the revision of the talent training scheme, optimizing curriculum system, reforming teaching methods, practical teaching system construction, improve teachers' skills, reform the assessment content and ways to improve the quality of talent training, meet the social demand for big data and technical personnel.
针对目前高校大数据人才培养中存在的培养目标不明确、实践教学与产业企业结合不紧密、培养质量低等问题,本文提出了一种面向大数据应用的创新型计算机人才培养模式。该模式以培养应用型人才为目标,采用OBE的教育理念,通过修订人才培养方案、优化课程体系、改革教学方法、实践教学体系建设、提高教师技能、改革考核内容和方式等提高人才培养质量,满足社会对大数据技术人才的需求。

A Simple but Effective Gamification Methodology Based on Lego Type Models for the Attraction of More Students into STEM Programs in Developing Nations 一个简单而有效的基于乐高模型的游戏化方法,吸引更多的学生进入发展中国家的STEM项目

This paper presents a methodology based on Lego construction and applications in a context of simple games, for the development of soft competencies in sixth-semester high school students and helping them in the decision of which Engineering program is best for them. These students have declared interest in enrolling at our university, particularly at the School of Engineering and Science. Soft competencies have always been a valuable resource that employers look for in students that finish a college education. Universities around the world make many efforts to attract more students into Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs. This work presents a simple but effective methodology that has worked for us during visits and workshops to high schools as part of our attraction process. In this work we show how some soft competencies like creativity, teamwork, stress management and goal-oriented work are developed at a basic level within a gamification context. The results of a survey answered by two hundred students show the perception of students on how those competencies were developed, how their interest in STEM programs was confirmed and also, how their self confidence in pursuing a “hard” program was strengthened. We present this work so that other universities, particularly those in developing nations, could include this type of gamification activities in their attraction process and improve on the enrolling numbers of students in STEM programs.

Addressing the needs of advancing cultural education in China, this study presents a framework to integrate positive psychology education into C-STEAM education. We call the model P-CAR to emphasize a positive cognition-action-reflection procedure to cultivate subjective well-being during cultural learning. We conducted a pilot study and then a formal study to test the feasibility of the framework with technology-enhanced instruction and cultural creation activities. We found significant improvement for students’ subjective well-being, conceptual understanding, in-class performance, and program attitude. Hence, positive psychology seems to help promote more effective moral, virtue and cultural education. This paper paves the way for future “fusion” research and helps provide more data and discussion on positive psychology education, especially regarding its application in China. But more study would be needed to establish greater reliability, validity, and generalizability for this research direction.

Learning with Mobile Technologies: Their Potential to Enhance Well-being, Collaboration and Social Enrichment among Diverse Students 使用移动技术学习:它们在不同学生之间增进福祉、合作和社会丰富的潜力

Technology for learning has shown great potential in increasing a student's academic achievement, performance, meaning, and well-being. It has also harvested a reputation for improving collaboration and socialization among student-student and student-teacher dyads. Evidence-based learning remains limited in learning with technology, showing whether students actually learn with digitized and mobilized technologies. Smartphones and mobile technologies continue to be the device of choice for young generations, namely those who occupy traditional classrooms and those who frequently engage in distance learning platforms. Employing Martin Seligman's Well-Being Theory (WBT), the PERMA model as the theoretical foundation for this research, will demonstrate how technology for learning presents a myriad of advantages and complexities where the multidimensions of well-being is concerned. The theoretical foundation would largely contribute to the trustworthiness of this literature. This research will focus on previous pieces of literature relevant to learning with technology, collaboration, socialization, and well-being. It will attempt to diversely fill the gap illustrated by Briz-Ponce et al. of what some of the drivers are that motivates learning and teaching with innovative and emergent technologies. It is suggested that future research take a diverse and demographic approach to show how knowledge acquisition with technology influences students’ well-being, academic achievement, and opportunities for collaboration and social wealth. More importantly, future research should be respectful of culture, race, age, community, or geographic location. Limitations of this study will be addressed.

It has also harvested a reputation for improving collaboration and socialization among student-student and student-teacher dyads. Evidence-based learning remains limited in learning with technology, showing whether students actually learn with digitized and mobilized technologies. Smartphones and mobile technologies continue to be the device of choice for young generations, namely those who occupy traditional classrooms and those who frequently engage in distance learning platforms. Employing Martin Seligman's Well-Being Theory (WBT), the PERMA model as the theoretical foundation for this research, will demonstrate how technology for learning presents a myriad of advantages and complexities where the multidimensions of well-being is concerned. The theoretical foundation would largely contribute to the trustworthiness of this literature. This research will focus on previous pieces of literature relevant to learning with technology, collaboration, socialization, and well-being. It will attempt to diversely fill the gap illustrated by Briz-Ponce et al. of what some of the drivers are that motivates learning and teaching with innovative and emergent technologies. It is suggested that future research take a diverse and demographic approach to show how knowledge acquisition with technology influences students’ well-being, academic achievement, and opportunities for collaboration and social wealth. More importantly, future research should be respectful of culture, race, age, community, or geographic location. Mixed Teaching Pattern Exploration Integrating Online and Offline Platforms Oriented to Continuous Improvement for Engineering Accreditation: Practice in computer programming course as a presentation case 面向持续改进的工程资格认证线上线下结合的混合式教学模式探索——以计算机程序设计课程实践为例

Computer programming is a practical basic course. In order to implement the teaching method based on the concept of engineering accreditation, this paper explores the fixed teaching pattern integrating multiple online and offline platforms in the computer programming course, and gives a reasonable course evaluation system. In accordance with the support of this course on the core quality of talents required in engineering accreditation, the course objectives, the teaching activities and implementation method are respectively established in the three stages of the class, namely, pre class, in class and after class, shifting from teaching to learning as the center of the class. A suit of teaching method integrating multiple online and offline platforms in computer programming course under the new pattern is constructed, which can not only achieve good teaching effect, cultivate students’ high-level thinking and abilities, but also help to find the weakness for purpose of continuous improvement oriented to engineering accreditation.
计算机程序设计是一门实用的基础课程。为了实施基于工程认证理念的教学方法,本文在计算机编程课程中探索了线上线下多个平台相结合的固定教学模式,并给出了合理的课程评价体系。根据本课程对工程认证所需人才核心素质的支持,在课前、课中、课后三个阶段分别确立了课程目标、教学活动和实施方法,由以教为中心转向以学为中心。构建了一套新模式下的计算机程序设计课程线上线下多平台一体化的教学方法,既能取得良好的教学效果,培养学生的高层次思维和能力,又能找到不足之处,以工程认证为导向进行持续改进。

Understanding Learners’ Interests in Cybersecurity Competitions on Reddit 了解学习者对Reddit网络安全竞赛的兴趣

Cybersecurity competitions have been recognized as an effective approach to engaging students with real-world challenges. This work aims to explore the cybersecurity competition contestants’ interests and opinions by collecting and analyzing Reddit data. Reddit is a leading hub for students and professionals to exchange information and share experience. We identified a list of keywords of interest and gathered over three thousand relevant public posts. Both qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods are employed to gain insight into learners’ interests and opinions from the data. Our results of analyzing Reddit posts provide a complementary understanding of learners’ interests and opinions compared with the existing survey studies of cybersecurity competitions. The frequency analysis results show that the popular topics include training tools, career advice, penetration testing, CTF, and certifications. Although survey studies are more targeted, our analysis of Reddit posts provides a more complete picture of how learners’ sentiment is impacted by competitions. In the end, our analysis results enable us to discuss several practical implications of the findings and directions of future work.

Automatic Classroom Question Classification Based on Bloom's Taxonomy 基于Bloom分类法的课堂问题自动分类

Asking questions is usually used by teachers to guide students to think and to interact with students. Bloom's Taxonomy has been used widely in the educational field to assess students’ intellectual abilities and skills. However, most questions lack a scientific basis and design; too many low-level questions constrain students’ thought. Some works classify these questions manually, which is inefficient. To improve the efficiency and provide implications for teachers to design curriculums, this study utilized machine learning to automatically classify teachers’ questions by building up keywords and extracting TF-IDF (Term frequency inverse document frequency) features. The result showed that keywords are significant in classifying questions, and we obtained an accuracy of 86.0%.
