. According to three experimental virtual spaces, the key factor for experience montage is identified—3D collage. General speaking, the theory of montage describes the connection of space and time. Time is a phenomenon of connection of points. Within 3D virtual space, the influence of Experience Montage generated examined through the Exploration model ( representation + rules + memory + policy = search exploration ) proposed by Woodbury in 1996. Through browsing and reading, the originally intact virtual space is dissected into pieces and corners. By duplicated, dismantled and reorganized over this dissected space, a new personalized virtual space is then modeled. As a continuation of previous analysis, latter stages of the study use the Exploration model to explain anew the connection among the representation, rules, memory , and policy of Experience Montage .

. Virtual reality (VR) can enhance users' spatial perception by enabling spatial design activities. Conversely, the VR environment provides more visual information for the user to process than the desktop environment, resulting in a low efficiency of the design process. This study aims to verify whether VR can have a distinctive influence on the spatial design experience compared to the desktop environment. We conducted user studies on design experience in VR and desktop environments to accomplish this goal. The results revealed that participants’ satisfaction with the design experience was higher in VR; however, the task completion was more time consuming than in the desktop environment.

Conventional inflatable material systems offer a quick and reversible means of construction, however presenting limitations in terms of adaptability. Conventional, discrete, form-resistant structures feature stability through the complex organisation of discrete ele- ments, however featuring inertias in terms of flexibility and disecon- omies if applied to projects with a short lifespan. This paper discusses an alternative application of inflatable buoyant moduli to a discrete form-resistant structure in order to provide an adaptive installation for temporary events. Numerical and physical models are developed through a series of benchmarks, first, and a design project application eventually. The inherent predictability of this complex system is stud- ied in terms of constructability, costs, flexibility and spatial quality.

A Synchronous Distributed Design Study Meeting Process with Annotation Function
Pub Date : 1900-01-01 DOI: 10.52842/conf.caadria.2014.749

This research investigated the impact of synchronous distributed non immersive cloud-VR (cloud computing type of Virtual Reality) meetings using the annotation function by noting an architectural design process. The experimentation of collaborative design work at the early stage of a housing renovation project was executed by three designers. The synchronously distributed meetings using cloud-VR and a freehand sketching function were completed in two days. The annotation function was used effectively when a designer wished to show the space composition and volume shape of the planned building and so on. The proposed design environment, sharing a 3D virtual space with viewpoints, plans, sketches and other information synchronously and remotely, was feasible and effective.

The advent of the ‘ubiquitous computing society’, in which computing will be omnipresent, will bring about drastic changes in the design of building and the cities they form. The goal of our research is to establish guidelines for designing structures and urban spaces best suited for a ubiquitous environment. As a first step, in this paper we discuss how ubiquitous computing can be applied from both the notional and technical viewpoints, develop a prototype system using it. Then we test this system in real-project, and explore the feasibility of applying this system in a ubiquitous environment.
“无处不在的计算社会”的到来,计算将无处不在,将给建筑设计和它们形成的城市带来巨大的变化。我们的研究目标是为设计最适合无处不在的环境的结构和城市空间建立指导方针。作为第一步,在本文中,我们从概念和技术的角度讨论了如何应用泛在计算,并使用它开发了一个原型系统。然后在实际工程中对该系统进行了测试,并探讨了该系统在泛在环境中应用的可行性。

A Web-Based Approach to Transferring Architectural Information to the Construction Site Based on the Bim Object Concept
Pub Date : 1900-01-01 DOI: 10.52842/conf.caadria.2004.613
Magdy M. Ibrahim, Robert J. Krawczyk George Schipporiet
The current means of transferring architectural data to the construction site depends mainly on the drawing either manually or electronically drafted both in physical or digital formats. The printed or manually drafted drawing is being replaced with the digital version that can be accessed with a PDA. There are many benefits of the digital form over the physical form. However the full potential of this medium has not yet been fully exploited. The new CAD paradigm, BIM (Building Information Modeling), suggests that all the building information can be represented as a digital database that constitutes the information about the building elements as three-dimensional geometry, as well as, properties and specifications in the form of objects. This paper describes the process to convey the information about the CAD objects to the construction site through the web by extracting the properties of the objects into an XML file which can be queried for the needed data.

Diagrams as parametric systems in urban design: parametric systems applied to conceptual design
Pub Date : 1900-01-01 DOI: 10.52842/conf.caadria.2010.337

The paper describes how parametric systems have been used to help students bridge from conceptual design to descriptive results. Specifically, it describes projects set in two cities, Hong Kong and Melbourne, to address substantive urban design issues and illustrate that the approach is not scale or culturally bounded. The project undertaken in Hong Kong establishes interdependency models for dense urban structure and examined urban systems that contribute positively to their contextual setting. Parametric models were used to develop diagrams of site potential through models of air movement, light and sun exposure, in particular addressing air quality in one of the most polluted places in Hong Kong. The Melbourne case studies examine urban systems as self-organising systems. In these, the case studies identify parameters that determine two patterns: material pattern of the city and cognitive pattern of the city. The paper illustrates the use of a parametric system as a diagramming tool to explore urban propositions from an urban system.
