In this paper, we propose an effective image compression noise reduction system based on the total variation (TV) regularization method. Our system allows the removal of MPEG-2 compression noise such as mosquito noise and blocky noise without losing picture sharpness. This method is particularly useful for HDTV terrestrial broadcasting with insufficient transmission bandwidth for noise-free HDTV pictures. The problem of the TV regularization method application to motion pictures is its high computational time requirement. We solved this problem by using the multi-core CELL processor. The experimental results show that the processing time of our system on the CELL processor is 2.5 ms, which is much lower than the television frame time of 16.7 ms. This shows that our system can be implemented in HDTV receivers.

New threats to embedded systems have appeared lately and attacks such as physical hacking using high cost analysis tools have become popular. This is the reason why hardware component of devices managing confidential information cannot be considered as trusted anymore. In this paper, we propose a confidential data protection scheme from physical hacking. Our proposal provides encryption of confidential data stored in external memory with additional features such as anti key analysis/cloning and key destruction mechanisms.

Recent years, the spread of devices to output Three-Dimension information are progressing. Researches about Three-Dimensional measurement have been actively carried out as a part of it. In general, when using the active stereo method, distance calibration is needed to associate the distance value to the pattern which the projector exposes. In addition, it is possible to extend the field of view by using multiple cameras, but a transformation matrix is needed to synthesize, due to the difference in the camera coordinate system. In this study, we propose a method to perform the distance calibration and the calculation of the transformation matrix at the same time, and then performed a 360degrees Tree-Dimensional measurement using the proposed method.

There is a growing importance of the in-air hand operation for the input devices. In order to introduce such in-air operation, we require an image sensing technology that enables 3D position detection of the user's hand in wide range. In this paper, as a practical application system, we focus on the Zooming Touch Panel [1] that connects the touch-panel and in-air operations seamlessly. In order to provide wide operation space for this type of the system, we propose a new hand detection method based on data fusion of fish-eye stereo camera. This technique enables both high-accuracy and wide-range 3D hand detection. Also this paper shows two example demonstrations.

In a network environment including a wireless LAN and a wired network, split-connection type proxies have been proposed to improve TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) throughput. A proxy is placed at the boundary between a wireless LAN and a wired network, and it splits a TCP connection which is established between a host (WSTA) in a wireless LAN and a host (STA) in a wired network into two virtual TCP connections. We have proposed a split-connection proxy called DA-Proxy, and simulation results in our previous works show that although the DA-Proxy can increase throughput of downflows (flows from STAs to WSTAs), throughput of upflows (flows from WSTAs to STAs) is not improved and is almost the same as that of upflows without the proxy. In this paper, we propose a new proxy called MDA-Proxy which tries to increase throughput of upflows by decreasing the number of ACKs in a WLAN and show its effectiveness using simulation results.

We propose simple three-dimensional measurement system in this paper. We think this system introduce a vehicle. This system is cheaper and easier than existing methods because, this system need only monocular camera and one light source. In addition we propose method re-create absorbed luminance by the texture to be able to measure any objects. Proposed method must keep pace surface that have high absorptive power because, proposed method use luminance distribution. This method use two light source. It can introduce vehicle very easy because, vehicle have back light and tail lamp.

Previously, we proposed a learning-based super-resolution method using the TV regularization method, which significantly reduced image processing time by removing database redundancy. However, there was a problem when noise appeared in reconstructed images because of an excessive reduction in database redundancy. In this paper, we propose a new learning-based super-resolution method, where noise is removed by utilizing Principal Components Analysis (PCA). The obtained algorithms significantly reduce the complexity and maintain a comparable image quality. This facilitates the adoption of learning-based super-resolution by motion pictures, e.g., Internet and HDTV movies.

This paper introduces our study of GUI for TV set based on a web browser. It will show how to get great efficiency when developing web related applications which uses web service APIs by taking advantage of web browser features. However, because current HTML standards do not grant access to TV functions, we have tried using WebSocket server. Used as a web service on TV, it allows not only to develop Web Browser based GUI, but even mobile devices to connect to the server and to use the TV functions provided through it. It also grants great benefit by allowing to share the HTML5 applications with both TV and mobile devices, thanks to the platform independency.

A process suspension approach is introduced by this paper to improve the OS boot up time. Two key factors are discussed to apply this approach. One is how to determine which processes can be suspended and resumed by external triggers. The other is how to recover from our incorrect decision to suspend some processes, resulting in deteriorating the OS boot up time unexpectedly, by using Bayesian Updating method.

In this paper, we propose a new IDPMS (In-Domain Protection and Management Scheme) to solve the multi-user problem and rights leak in the Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems. The content is divided to content objects to be delivered to the client devices without the need of being kept by the device. The proposed IDPMS defined a new DRM vector to replace the initial vector of the encrypt/decrypt cipher to enhance the security. Additionally, the new IDPMS helps disable the rights leak from content sharing with devices of the domain. The implementation of IDPMS is based on the OMA[1] DRM system and the major modification is on the content issuer.
