The aim of the study was to assess to what extent the quality standards in the Special Education Program at Majmaah University, were available from the point of view of faculty members and 8th level students who were expected to graduate, in the light of a number of variables. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used a descriptive survey method and developed a questionnaire, consisting of six areas: (objectives of the program, teaching methods, and curriculum, students’ evaluation, facilities and services, and field training). The study sample consisted of all faculty members at the Department of Special Education in the College of Education, totaling (42) faculty members, and (62) 8th Level students who were expected to graduate in the academic year 2015 / 2016. The study results revealed the availability of quality standards in the program to a high degree from the point of view of faculty members, and in all the areas of the questionnaire, with a slight variation between these areas "standards ". The standard “objectives of the program” ranked first, while the standard “facilities and services” ranked last. From the students’ perspective, on the other hand, the results indicated that quality standards, which are related to program objectives only, were available in the program to a high degree. In other areas of the questionnaire, students’ perspectives had a medium degree. The results of the study did not show any significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the means of the faculty members perspectives, attributed to the variables (gender, years of experience), but there were statistically significant differences (α=0.05), attributed to the impact of level of education, in favor of MA and PhD holders. Also, the results did not reveal any significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) between the means of the students’ perspectives due to the variable (GPA, gender). The study aimed at answering the following key question: Are academic standards of political sciences fulfilled in the curricula of political science programs at the Palestinian universities? Accordingly, the study included a theoretical section that explained the basic concepts of quality in education, and some international experiences adopted for quality assurance of political sciences programs. Then the study analyzed, according to the standard criteria, the curricula of four departments that grant a bachelor's degree in political sciences, based on information published on the departments’ sites on the internet, and according to the academic guidebook of each department. The study concluded that the mission and objectives of three departments are clear, while the findings of the analysis showed that there is mismatch of requirements in the Palestinian curricula with academic standards. Most programs are rich with major materials, but need a little adjustment to conform to the standards. The findings also showed a number of negative points in study plans, which do not contain enough credit hours for scientific research, computer applications, and field training, while they have extra credit hours for university requirements. The study made several recommendations to address the problems of the curricula, including: Inviting departments to form committees to ensure quality, to modify the curricula, and develop it in accordance with international standards. The findings also showed a number of negative points in study plans, which do not contain enough credit hours for scientific research, computer applications, and field training, while they have extra credit hours for university requirements. The study made several recommendations to address the problems of the curricula, including: Inviting departments to form committees to ensure quality, to modify the curricula, and develop it in accordance with international standards. \u0000Keywords: Academic program, Academic standards, Curricula assessment, Political sciences.","PeriodicalId":300044,"journal":{"name":"The Arab Journal For Quality Assurance in Higher Education","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127969408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of scholarly production and impact indicators of faculty members at some state Universities in Sudan. The study used a purposive sample which consisted of (191) faculty members from state Universities (El Imam El Mahdi, Bakhat El rrida, Kordofan, & West Kordofan University). To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used CVs and content analysis as well as the descriptive analytical method. The study showed that the level of indicators of production and scholarly impact of faculty members at those state Universities was low, as the mean was (6.524). The mean of scholarly impact was (7.952) at a level (0.05). There was also a difference in the scholarly production and impact indicators of faculty members at those state Universities in Sudan depending on the place of obtaining the doctorate degree, in favour of those who did their degrees abroad. Also, there was a difference in the scholarly production and impact indicators depending on the academic rank (assistant professor, associate professor, and professor), in favour of Professors. Based on the study results it was recommended that the university administrations and the ministry of higher Education should provide appropriate opportunities for researchers to publish their studies and to subscribe to international academic networks that are interested in the impact of research.
