In this paper, millimeter-wave broadband cascode amplifiers were designed and fabricated. The 0.1 mum InGaAs/InAlAs/GaAs MHEMT (metamorphic high electron mobility transistor) was fabricated for the cascode amplifier. The DC characteristics of MHEMT are 670 mA/mm of drain current density, 688 mS/mm of maximum transconductance. The current gain cut-off frequency (fT) is 139 GHz and the maximum oscillation frequency (fmax) is 266 GHz. To prevent oscillation of the designed cascode amplifiers, a parallel resistor and capacitor were connected to the drain of common gate device. By using the CPW (coplanar wave guide) transmission line, the cascode amplifier was designed and matched for the broadband characteristics. The designed amplifier was fabricated by the standard MHEMT MMIC (millimeter-wave monolithic IC) process that was developed through this research. As the results of measurement, the amplifier was obtained 3 dB bandwidth of 50.37 GHz from 20.76 to 71.13 GHz. Also, the amplifier represents the S21 gain with the average 7.07 dB in bandwidth and the maximum gain of 10.3 dB at 30 GHz.

This paper focuses on the optics design for a 3 x 3 millimeter-wave focal plane array for the Delingha 13.7-m telescope. Three optical schemes, such as that with relay optics consisting of focusing mirrors or lenses, or that without relay optics, have been evaluated using ZEMAX, with a comparison to that from GRASP9. The conclusion drawn from the two software tools agree well with each other.

The performance study of a 60 GHz band 1.25 Gbps radio-over-fiber system is presented in this paper. The bit error rate of a 60 GHz millimeter wave transmission radio-over-fiber system with and without an optical fiber under different single mode optical fiber lengths is investigated. The RF output power of the photo-detector is also presented when the tone signal (58.1 GHz, 60 GHz and 62.9 GHz) is input to the radio-over-fiber system.

The effect of LFM jamming on PRPPM-PRBC compound systemic fuze is analyzed. It is found that the correlation curve is deteriorated when LFM jamming power is larger than the anti-jamming limit of the fuze system. It is necessary to excise LFM jamming before correlation. Through the analysis of fractional Fourier transform result of LFM signal, the method of excising LFM jamming in fractal rank domain is put forward. Through simulation analysis, it is found that the method proposed can effectively excise the LFM interference and ameliorate the correlation curve.

A 15 GHz coaxial Bragg reflector corrugated with sinusoidal ripples is studied by the coupled mode theory. Numerical analysis is carried out to compare with the software CST microwave studio. It is found that, although the results obtained by the coupled mode theory and the software are in agreement, both the calculation time and memories used by the coupled mode theory are much less than that needed by the software CST, and especially, the coupled mode theory is still valid for higher-order mode and higher frequency up to hundreds giga hertz, whereas the software CST needs tremendous number of mesh cells and hence can hardly process in a PC.

An all-optical frequency up-converter utilizing a four-wave mixing effect in a semiconductor optical amplifier is experimentally demonstrated. In order to characterize a spurious free dynamic range, the third-order inter-modulation distortion signal power is measured by a two-tone test. The spurious free dynamic range of the photonic frequency up-converter is 81 dB-Hz2/3 for the optical LO power of -10 dBm and the optical IF power of -16 dBm. The scheme shows a positive conversion efficiency of 5.77 dB for the optical IF power of -22 dBm and the optical LO power of-13 dBm.

A single-layer capacitive feeding structure is proposed to design a wideband millimeter wave microstrip antenna, which the radiating and feeding patches are located at a single layer. As the purpose of obtaining suited impedance, the radiating patch is fed by coupling of the feeding element which compensates the additional inductance of using probe-fed. The bandwidth (VSWR < 2) of the designed antenna is 52.5% (25.3 GHz~ 43.3 GHz).

A reflectarray antenna consists of the elements of double-layer rectangular patches with slot loading of different lengths, printed on the upper- and down-surfaces of a single- layer substrate respectively, and suspended over a ground plate is proposed and designed for bandwidth enhancement. It has 15% bandwidth for -1 dB gain-drop from the peak value, is obviously wider than that of conventional reflectarray.

This paper presents a novel design of an antenna with an array of slots, radiating circularly polarized conical beam. The structure of the antenna is simple and suitable for mass production. The radiation characteristics such as radiation pattern and directivity are found to be conical beam radiation, which is omni-directional in the circumferential direction. The polarization characteristics are investigated to perform the circularly polarized radiation. At the operation frequency 35 GHz, the antenna gets a circularly polarized omni-directional radiation pattern at thetas=77deg, the gain is about 1.70-5.08 dB, and the axial ratio is less than 3 dB in the azimuthal plane.
