In order to eliminate the problems associated with the conventional grids, smart grids are coming into existence nowadays. One of the advantages of smart grid is that it can utilize both conventional and non conventional sources of energy to meet the load demands and sends the monitored data to control station in digital form. ZigBee has been identified earlier as the one of the most suitable wireless technology for Home Area Networks (HAN) of smart grid. Mesh network topology provides the secure and reliable means of data transmission in case of ZigBee network to be implemented in smart grid. In this work, a smart grid network has been designed to be developed in Jadavpur University Saltlake Campus, Kolkata (22.5733°N, 88.4137°E). The wireless sensor nodes have been identified in different areas of the campus and the load of different buildings has been monitored. Solar and wind power system controlled by WSN technologies has been also installed to meet the excess load demands. A central control station will monitor the load distribution throughout the campus and hence will make load leveling possible. Optimum numbers of wireless nodes have been planned to ensure that all the buildings are covered along with continuous and reliable data delivery to the control station. Dijkstra's algorithm has been chosen for initial test purpose which has been planned to be replaced by a more energy efficient algorithm in the future.

Variable speed induction motor drives for constant torque applications often employ Pulse Width Modulated Voltage Source Inverters for exercising speed control through constant volts/hertz control. Although such drive systems offer a wide range of speed control, they however create severe power quality problems on the source side. In order to overcome these power quality problems, an alternative drive system has been proposed in this paper for exercising constant volts/hertz control in induction motors by means of Matrix Converters. Matrix Converters are a relatively new breed of AC voltage controllers that offer a controllable output voltage at unrestricted frequency while maintaining desirable power quality at input as well as output. Besides serving as an improved power quality drive, a matrix converter based induction motor drive offers single stage AC to AC conversion, hence eliminating the need for a heavy D.C link capacitor that is otherwise required in a conventional drive system.

This paper presents a solar PV array fed water pumping system using an induction motor drive (IMD). There are two stages in the solar array fed water pumping system, its first stage extracts the maximum power from the solar PV (Photo Voltaic) array by controlling the duty ratio of the DC-DC boost converter. To control the duty ratio, an INC (Incremental Conductance) based MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) control technique is utilized. In the second stage, V/f(Voltage/ Frequency) controller based on sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) is utilized to control the switching pulses of the VSI (Voltage Source Inverter). The stator frequency of the IMD is controlled by controlling the frequency of SPWM. The prototype of SPV powered IMD coupled with a pump is developed in the laboratory to examine the performance under different operating conditions.

As the wind power penetration continues to increase in the modern day electrification, the stabilized operation of wind farms interconnected with grids pose an alarming situation. Typically for an asymmetric grid fault, whose probability of occurrence is more than 70%, the voltage and VAR profile of the wind farm gets disturbed thus leading to erroneous operation of wind energy conversion system. LVRT (Low Voltage Ride-Through) requirements for the wind energy conversion systems typically for an offshore based grid interconnection are still under discussion. This paper presents a FACT device based LVRT capability, where the FACT device injects 1pu reactive current in the grid during asymmetric faults as well as symmetric three phase faults.

Motor is the heart of many industrial automation and motion control applications. Brushless DC (BLDC) motor drives are widely used in a many applications, ranging from low to high power applications, because of their high efficiency, low maintenance, require small space, salient operation and high torque to power ratio, etc. The rotor position must be acquired in order to drive a BLDC motor. The position of the rotor is known by hall sensors and encoders, but when these types of sensors are used to drive BLDC motor, the circuits become very complex and large. Therefore accuracy and performance of BLDC motor drivers should be enhanced through sensorless technology. Many sensorless methods are existing in literature to sense the rotor position of motor, but this paper explain and proposed zero crossing back-EMF detection method. This paper work on analysis of sensorless techniques to sense the rotor position and PWM based speed control of inverter-fed sensorless BLDC motor. Modeling and simulation of three-phase star connected sensorless BLDC motor is done in MATLAB/Simulink environment. An accurate speed estimation has been achieved by using back EMF zero crossing speed estimation method. Fast response with negligible settling time has been obtained by this method of sensorless speed estimation of BLDC motor.

This paper presents a new floating general element simulator configuration which comprises of two VDCC and three grounded passive components. This circuit can realize floating resistor; floating capacitor and floating inductor depending on the choice of different passive components. The proposed circuit do not require any component matching condition(s). The realized floating resistor; inductor and capacitor can be tuned electrically by changing transconductances of VDCC. The workability of presented configuration has been demonstrated by SPICE Simulations.

The identification of Lung cancer at initial stages is of extreme importance if it is intended to degrade high mortality rate. The worldwide lung screening program focuses to imagine PET/CT examinations amongst most matured gatherings at danger to upgrade the early location rate. In spite of the fact that utilization of obtrusive procedures, side effects scarcely show up until infection is propelled making it troublesome for radiologist to recognize sores. Every year, the American Cancer Society appraises the quantities of new growth cases and passing that will happen in the world in the present year and aggregates the latest information on tumor frequency, mortality, and survival. Genuine and precise information is the basis of disease control initiatives. More than 3/4th of the illness is identified with tobacco utilization. Furthermore, hereditary components, presentation to ecological poisons, second hand smoking expand illness quickly. Cures including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, epidermal open medications raise survival rate and personal satisfaction. This strategy is more about diagnosing at ahead of schedule and critical stages with keen computational procedures with different noise elimination by segmentation strategies and calculations which is the root idea of digital image processing. Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) is an important problem in power system optimization. It helps to create very efficient unit management plans and keeps the generation cost to a minimum. In this paper, we have addressed ELD problem with a novel improved algorithm called Elitist Cuckoo Search (ECS) keeping in mind the practical constraints of a plant such as generation ramp rate and prohibited zones of operation. The transmission network losses are also taken into account. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is tested on a sample test system consisting of fifteen generating units. It is observed that both Cuckoo Search (CS) and Improved Cuckoo Search (ICS) are trapped in local minima and give worse convergence characteristics when compared to other meta-heuristic algorithms applied to the same test case. Hence in order to improve the performance, reduce the probability of getting trapped in local optima and to improve the convergence characteristics of these two Cuckoo Search algorithms, a new method called Elitist Cuckoo Search (ECS) is introduced and is shown to be superior than Cuckoo Search, Improved Cuckoo Search and other well-known meta-heuristic algorithms.
