Aim. Using available data from previously published study the hypothesis that individuals with broader disease history are more conservative than those, who were infected less often in the past was tested. Methods. Publicly available database containing data regarding perceived vulnerability to disease, social conservatism and participant’s history of parasitic disease was accessed. In the study 9409 cases from 43 countries were analysed. Results. When controlling for participant’s age, sex, education level, wealth and perceived infectability, it was found, that broader disease history was a significant predictor of social conservatism. Conclusions. Individuals, who were in the past infected with parasitic diseases more often, were observed to be more conservative than people, who had suffered from these diseases less often.

Aim. The aim of the research is to provide a scientific justification for the integrated development of general and subject-specific competences of primary school pupils. Methods. The exploratory qualitative case study was conducted in a private school in Lithuania. The integrated activities covered the content of Lithuanian language and science education, as well as general competences such as communication and digital competences. The activity was implemented in grade 4 with 12 pupils (8 boys and 4 girls). A semi-structured interview with the class teacher was also conducted. Results and conclusion. The data from the empirical study were analysed according to the following thematic clusters: interest in the activity, group work, searching for information in the encyclopaedia and in electronic sources, working with a robot when integrating the digital skills and the content of science education, descriptions of animals as a summarising and consolidating activity. The study found that if the educational process is well thought out, if the pupils are interested, they can work independently and support each other in explaining the content, while the teacher becomes an observer, a facilitator, and can concentrate on the pupils’ individual activities during this process. Well-designed tasks with the robot develop not only digital literacy skills, but also the reinforcement of subject content related to the use of concepts. Originality. The case study provides valuable insights into the implementation of an educational process that integrates general and subject-specific competences, and the detailed description of the activities shows which tasks support students’ independent learning.

Thesis. The authors of the study consider important issues of the professional competencies formation during the process of teaching a foreign language to law students as a process of their professional identity formation. The authors had to identify by interviewing students what types of exercises help them to master their chosen speciality in a foreign language. Methods. The authors rely on comparative, competitive methods, as the interdisciplinary approach principles. Comparing the programmes of teaching a foreign language of speciality and international law, the authors build a system of a single learning process as one of forming a professional identity. Results. Authors of the study tried to build the process methodology of teaching the language of the speciality as a formative one of students’ professional identity. The authors cited as an example the system of methods and exercises used in the language lessons of the speciality, with the aim of formation of not only linguistic but also legal professional competencies. Conclusion. The process of forming a professional identity in the process of studying at a university is one of the most important in the development of the professional personality of a future specialist. Teaching a foreign language in humanitarian universities is an important process which should be revised in accordance with the main discipline teaching programmes. It’s important to create such methodological complexes that would allow the speciality language lessons to bring the learning process as close as possible to a professional one.

Aim. The main aim of presented study is the exploration of university students´ reflection on chosen characteristics of national populism in Slovakia. Methods. For the main method of the study, a quantitative approach has been used. Students studying at universities in the Slovak Republic have been addressed via a questionnaire prepared in advance. Recorded answers of sixty-seven university students studying in the Slovak Republic have been analysed via first-degree data sorting. Results. The study has a theoretical-empirical character. In the theoretical part, there is a brief characteristic of national populism and characteristics of national-populistic tactics and strategies in Slovakia. In the empirical part, the analysis of surveyed university students´ opinions shows that most addressed university students studying at Slovak universities have not expressed a negative view of presenting the interests of the Slovak nation by political representatives. Conclusion. The addressed university students reflect on the issue of national populism on the Slovak political scene. On the other hand, respondents lack a relevant and expert view of the issue of national populism through the optics of a university educator who would (via his/her expert opinion) help students to identify undesired national-populistic tactics and strategies. A more detailed study of university students’ opinions related to their view of national populism and its manifestations in Slovakia should be supplemented by a qualitative study, using in-depth interviews.

Aim. The paper presents feedback on the effects of a new approach to the teaching practice of teacher trainees introduced in Serbia. Verification of the new approach is connected with a mentor training conception which has been under preparation within the frame of Erasmus+ project 2020-1-SK01-KA201-07825 Mentor training addressed in mutual cooperation of higher education institutions from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, and the Republic of Serbia. Methods. Within the frame of the new approach, verification structured interviews were carried out with a research sample of ten mentor teachers—science teachers from primary and secondary schools. The teachers were asked about the teacher trainees’ knowledge and skills (competences) they use within the lessons taught by them during their teaching practice, ways to improve the mentoring process, as well as mentors’ competences and the ability to self-assess. Results. The researchers collected rather positive opinions of mentors about mentees’ knowledge and skills they come to schools with. At the same time, the mentors expressed high satisfaction with their own knowledge about their mentoring role and competences. Conclusion. The paper presents, on the one hand, a good example of synergy of the national school policy strategies, introducing new approaches to the teaching practice of teacher trainees in Serbia. On the other hand, the goals of an international project are presented, which are meant to improve the quality of mentor-teachers at schools in Serbia.

Aim. This article seeks to show that Rembrandt is the most profound, comprehensive and reliable interpreter – not an illustrator – of the Old Testament: "His ability… makes him one of the great visual interpreters of Scripture… a theologian not by academic degree but in his very nature” (Parker, 1994, p. 28). It is the purpose of this article to demonstrate the acute difference between Rembrandt’s depictions of Old Testament events and those by other artists who merely converted the overtly stated text in the Holy Bible into the visual medium. Methods. The case for claiming that Rembrandt interpreted rather than merely depicted the Old Testament will be made by analysing five of his works and the comparison to others portraying the same events. Rembrandt’s unique methods and techniques such as adding or omitting certain figures or details, using chiaroscuro extensively and deviating from expected iconography will be demonstrated as he unearths the core significance of each event. Results. This article manifests how Rembrandt whose production of artwork relating to Old Testament scenes was prolific did not merely depict Old Testament scenes but rather interpreted the deeper, psychological meanings of the subjects involved and events portrayed, exhibiting a profound understanding of the messages in the original Hebrew text. Conclusion. The article unfolds Rembrandt’s significant artistic accomplishments surpassing those who preceded or succeeded him. It reveals the different means he used in each painting expressing its high point according to Old Testament interpretation rather than through the prism of the New Testament.

Aim. The goal of the study is to describe the teacher’s corrective work on pre-schoolers’ sound pronunciation that is developed according to the children’s age, physiological and mental norms, and special educational needs. Methods. Four children with special educational needs participated in this experimental study. We used the method of monitoring children’s speech during various activities: play, household activity and teaching (during speech therapy classes and various types of practical language classes). Results and conclusion. Age-related features of pre-schoolers’ speech development have been identified in the study. The reasons and indicators of pre-schoolers’ speech development disorders have been described, and the ways to overcome language disorders have been found. The experimental study tested the effectiveness of articulation exercises in working with children with special educational needs in an inclusive environment, the involvement of psychologists and children’s parents to overcome speech disorders of pre-schoolers, and the use of folklore texts. Originality. In the experimental study, we observed that riddles, proverbs, ditties, tongue twisters, fairy tales, lullabies, nursery rhymes, counting rhymes, and sayings are an effective means of phonetics and articulation work, during both the speech development classes and other classes as well as during walks.

Aim. The study aims to identify and compare the sending of own and somebody else’s intimate photos and videos and to point out the importance of media education as a meaningful way of preventing sexting. Methods. The research tool was an online self-designed questionnaire. 250 respondents aged 15 to 19 participated in the research. Results. The research has shown that sending their own photos and somebody else’s photos are equally frequent. Differences are only noticeable in average values. The findings offer an overview of sending sexually explicit photos and indicate decreased shyness, and a greater desire to attract attention through their own naked photos or videos. In the case of sending somebody else’s photos, it is a matter of ridiculing the victim without his/her consent. Conclusions. Primarily, the importance of media education ought to be pointed out, as it provides information about the dangers of publishing such photos and videos, and develops critical thinking and media literacy in children, which is key for the safeguarding of online space. We see the importance and significance of the study especially in the prevention of sexting through media education, which could be the primary means of eliminating it.

Aim. The proposed study examines the subversive polemics of Fo’s theatre which serves as a catalyst for social, political and cultural change. It aims to foreground the revolutionary politics of Fo who uses theatre to combat the oppressive system bringing to fore the working-class struggle for a classless society. The present study will be done with the help of the analysis of Fo’s select plays. These plays will be interpreted using the Gramscian framework of cultural consensus, an enabling provision of authority and control and the role of intellectuals in countering the same. Concept. The paper underlines the significance of art in facilitating a deeper understanding of the complex social realities of our world. The paper engages with the question of power and control, oppression and marginalisation as well as art and education as contextualised in Dario Fo’s theatre. Results. Fo’s use of drama to humanize the history of Italian working classes tells us about the expedience of art to enage with matters most urgent. This tells us that art and culture can be an important link in the mobilization authoritarism. Conclusion. A comprehensive discussion on power politics is presented in the paper with the aim of keeping people informed of the subtle working of these underlying structures which govern power relations in society. Originality. The originality of the study is contingent on investigating into how power is acquired, legitimised, practised, and maintained, how it can be resisted and what role art and artists play in the construction, dissemination and opposition of it.

In this article it is discussed whether the catholic education may be approached as the alternative for the dominating education system. In the theoretic part I did reveal that regarding to the historical context, the catholic education is a traditional, during different periods reflourishing phenomenon. That is why the notion alternative while speaking about a catholic school in Lithuania may be used in some extremely specific cases: a) how catholic education becomes an opposition for different repressions as well as for a worldview that is uncongenial for the catholic culture; b) when there is an objective to gain reservations necessary for an education institution as well as not to pursue certain reforms that are provided for at a national level. Phenomenological analysis has grasped that an incredibly special space of a catholic school that appears in the remembrance of the participants of the analysis, is a chapel. A relation based on trust between adults and pupils in a catholic school, stimulates pupils to proceed the same well that they witness the senior (teachers and other pupils) as well as their peers (building team and embracing correlation) doing. On the other hand, negation and disregard of a classroom relation problems may lead to hidden, decennial sneering. Body dimension at a catholic school displays in several aspects: voluntary physical assistance and embracing look at the different one, a shocking collision with a theme about one’s sexuality and peaceful belief in body resurrection that provides strength and hope. Exclusive time in catholic education – planned retreat kairos time. Other scheduled liturgical practice (Mass) for some pupils becomes as resistance time for senselessness. Also, the transformation time when worldview of a school is changing, leads to foreignness and anxiety experience that stimulates resistance as well as desire to replace a school back to the usual, “normalcy” condition. Some exceptional catholic education features that are mentioned in a theoretic part of the article also are seen in findings of phenomenological analysis, that are: pastoral care practices, liturgical practices and practise of mercy activities.
