The craftsmanship and the popular banks in Varna have developed the economic potential and the social interactions in the city in 1933. A correspondence in a local newspaper testifies to the ongoing discussions about the role of craftsmanship and popular banks, and this has prompted changes in the political and economic base later in time. The purpose of the paper is to provide some documents and testimonies about the conditions, trends and opportunities of craftsmanship in the region during the Great Depression.

After accepting the Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire, the construction of temples serving the new faith began. Church chroniclers claim that Odessos is one of the first cities in Lower Moesia to accept Christianity. The significance of the city as an Episcopal center is confirmed by the found of over ten early Christian basilicas on its territory. The Early Christian Basilica in the Odessos region experienced its prosperity in the IV-VI century. The open basilicas are of two types - a basilica with a wooden roofed roof ("Hellenistic" type) and an arched basilica. In a symbolic aspect the holy building is a space that is a real image of the inhabitants as an inner space used by man and it is the most immediate form of expression of his personality or in the case of the general consciousness.

At the beginning of the 20th century, and especially after the First World War, there were substantial changes related to maritime transport, fisheries, production and trade in agricultural products. From a means of survival and livelihood these activities become characteristic and dominate the overall appearance of the North- East Black Sea coast. In a managerial aspect there is a gradual transition from casual and temporary communities to cooperatives and associations that bring together numerous and well organized members. Despite the burdens of the economic crisis and wars from the beginning of the last century, these economic structures combine the specifics of the Bulgarian traditions and the positive influence of the European experience and the relevant modern analogues.

The golden phallus from the Chalcolithic Necropolis of Varna is just one of a series of amazing archaeological artifacts found in its survey. Unique and inimitable, it has not been the subject of serious scientific analysis so far. Interest in it raises the fact that it is viewed as a unique prehistoric artifact among the wide palette of varied forms that symbolize the male beginning accompanying the changes in man's religious beliefs of the Chalcolithic society with the imposition of the Patriarchate. It is even more interesting to examine it in the light of the unexplored parallels between the cultures of Old Europe and Egypt in recent years. The proposed work is an attempt to create a discussion around the golden phallus, looking at it in those directions and suggesting some serious arguments for the purpose.

In 2016 two gold coins were found between the towns of Balchik and Kavarna where the capital of the Second Scythian kingdom, was probably located. One of the coin is a quarter stater of Olbia, minted under the Athenian coin system in the period 310 - 300 BC. It is descripted by the Russian numismatists Karishkovskiy and Anokhin as a hemidrahm or triobol. On the obverse is depicted the goddess Demetra with a wreath of stalks grains, turned left. The reverse presents a dolphin to the left, below it a monogram ОΛ. The coins has a diameter of 11 mm and a weight 2,157 g. The other coin is also quarter stater with weight 2,103 g and a diameter 12 mm. On the obverse is depicted the head of god Apollo with a laured wreath, turned left. Above the image there is a monogram ΔI. On the reverse is a Scythian with a spear in the right hand on a horse in gallop turned to the left. From the studies and comparisons made, it can be assumed that this is a quarter stater of the king of Bosporan kingdom, Perissad IV, minted in Panticapaion during the period 140 - 130 BC.

The article examines objects and installations of the Varna artist Ilia Yankov, created in the 1980s and 1990s. The author works at the boundary between visual art and design, creating aesthetic works of glass and other materials with a dominant role of light. In terms of aesthetics this kind of creative searches are peripheral to postmodern visual practices, in which the principle of profane and grotesque comes to the fore.
