Learning grammar strategies have been explored by students and teachers. Moreover, research on this issue has been done by several researchers. However, new inventory to measure learning English grammar strategy has been developed and not implemented to identify students’ learning strategy. Thus, the present study aimed to implement and identify the students’ English learning grammar strategy by using new inventory. Besides, this study also wanted to know the challenges of students in implementing those strategies. This study used Mixed method with sequential explanatory. The participants of this research were 30 students of English Language Department in one of the universities in Bengkulu. The instrument of this study used questionnaire of Grammar Learning Strategy Inventory (GLSI) and the interview guideline. Those instruments have been validated by two expert judgments and tried out to another class. The quantitative data were analysed by using simple statistic calculation and using percentage for every learning strategy type. However, the qualitative data analysis comprised several steps namely data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion. The result shows that students used all strategies in learning grammar, but the dominant one is cognitive strategy, while the least one is social strategy. The challenges in implementing learning strategy or in learning grammar were poor knowledge of grammar, ineffective time management, less group work, and less sociable because of Covid-19.

Classroom management is an essential element of the teaching and learning process which determines the quality of instruction. This research aims to investigate the elements of classroom management which can be effectively applied in EFL classrooms. This study is a review research study, where the data were collected from 43 previously published materials, restricted to books, dissertations, and articles published in academic journal. The data were analysed using data condensation, data display and conclusion drawing. The results of this study show that there are three elements of classroom management, i.e. seating arrangements, engagement, and participation. The seating arrangement has three effective components including u-shaped, sitting in a group, and orderly row. Further, student engagement consists of cognitive, behavioural, academic, emotional, social, intellectual, physiological, affective and relational engagement approaches. Meanwhile, participation includes classroom talk, teacher talk, collaborative talk, exploratory talk, disputational talk, and learner-managed talk. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers utilize effective classroom management components based on the results of this study to improve the quality of instruction.

The utilization of digital video game was rarely applied for the reading skill. Consequently, there were still no research exploring the integrations of the digital game and the learning of reading skill for long periods, as the jargon of lifelong learning. Therefore, this paper aimed at enriching the perspectives of the integrations of the digital game and a reading skill, at exploring the pedagogical perspectives towards its integrations and at discussing the dilemmas the digital game for teaching and learning a reading skill. This study employed qualitative-interpretative design, while the data were gathered via library research without any participants or respondents. The results highlighted three points. The first point was that the integrations of reading skill through the digital game had to consider the digital game values, the digital game patterns and the reading skill components. The second point was that the pedagogical perspectives had to ponder games’ instructions, teachers’ roles and students’ roles. The third point was dilemmas toward those integrations which were classified as the psychological and pedagogical effects both positively and negatively.

This paper reports the appraisal analysis - particularly the attitudinal language - of Indonesian flora and fauna discourse on the official website of Indonesian tourism by examining 11 articles, accessed on www.Indonesia.travel. This paper qualitatively identifies the appraised features denoting Indonesian flora and fauna discourse and examined their appraising resources by applying Martin & White’s (2005) framework. Through the lens of interpersonal meaning, this paper criticizes how the website communicates through flora & fauna discourse in tourism to global readers. Findings reveal that affect, judgement, and appreciation function in several ways: introduce Indonesian endangered and endemic species, present the government’s seriousness to preserve the species, and promote the happiness and satisfaction tourists can feel when visiting the sites. From an ecolinguistics point of view, the website presents a beneficial discourse since it does not focus on feelings the tourists may have but the appreciation of the natural phenomena.

Exile is a song written by Taylor Swift that describes a relationship that is no longer working on two people. This song describes a broken relationship through metaphors. This study aims to examine broken relationship metaphors in Taylor Swift’s Exile through a cognitive linguistic perspective. The method used for this research is the non-participant observation and identity referential method. The result shows that there are several metaphors that indicate a broken relationship in that song, namely [RELATIONSHIP IS A FILM], [PARTNER IS A HOMELAND], [MOVING ON IS EXILE], [OPINION IS A BREAKING BRANCH], [MOVING ON IS A SIDE DOOR], and [UNCERTAINTY IS A THIN LINE]. In conclusion, this song describes a situation of a broken relationship that is expressed in a metaphorical way to set a scene of breaking up, misunderstanding, and showing different opinions from one to another.

This study conducted an approximate replication of Marsden, Whong, & Gil's (2018) ‘What’s in the Textbook and What’s in the Mind: Polarity Item Any in Learner English’. Forty Indonesian speaking learners of English knowledge of English Negative Polarity Item any was investigated and the results were compared with the results of the original study (ibid.) including the additional study conducted by the same authors (Gil et al., 2017). The purpose of this study is to provide a replicated and extended study to the reliability of the original study by investigating different populations and comparing their performance with the performance of the population in the original study as well as by adding an additional language item some to be tested in a Truth Value Judgment Task (TVJT). This study focused on English NPI any and how Indonesian speaker learners of English acquire its properties when the properties were both taught and not taught. The results confirmed the original study with an additional finding that there was no correlation between the learners’ knowledge of any with their knowledge of some. Therefore, it is suggested that the existing instruction of the use of any should no longer be contrasted with some, but presented in a more meaningful context.

This study was purposely done to investigate the representation of the government in The Jakarta Post. Therefore, the research objective of this study is to reveal the representation of the government related to the draft of Criminal Code in The Jakarta Post by using Fairclough three-dimensional model. The three-dimensional model including textual analysis, discourse practice, and social practice were the stages for the researchers to analyze the news. The qualitative descriptive approach was employed by the researchers as the research method. The findings of this current study showed that The Jakarta Post was on the protesters’ side and it negatively represented the government. This research can be a meaningful insight for future researchers who want to conduct a study under a critical discourse analysis theory, for readers to become more aware of reading news, and for journalists to become more aware as well in writing news.

Teachers' views influence how they choose pedagogical methods and how they execute teaching practices in the classroom. An investigation of teachers' views regarding the notion of "language socialization" (LS) and how it may be used to enhance pedagogical application via the use of social networking technologies (SNTs) in a Yemeni EFL setting is the subject of this study. In this study, 30 EFL teachers participated in a survey. Five males were interviewed out of the total number of participants. The findings revealed that the vast majority of teachers had good associations with LS as a teaching method and positive reactions to the use of SNTs in the EFL classrooms even though most participants had never used SNTs in their own classrooms. Because of a lack of access to and training in the usage of SNTs, teachers have been prevented from integrating them into their classrooms when teaching English. This suggests that instructors recognize the important functions that SNTs play in improving students’ language learning and socialization but that they lack first-hand experience and training in how to use them in their classrooms effectively. That there is a shortage of provision must be addressed as soon as possible to guarantee that Yemeni English as a foreign language teachers and their students have the chance to engage with new technologies in order to enhance their educational experiences critically.

This study proposes to describe morphological causative formation in Indonesian and Javanese to determine similar verbs by comparing both. The levels of causative formation patterns in the Rembang Javanese dialect and Indonesian include (1) analytical causative construction, (2) morphological causation, and (3) lexical causation. This study focuses on the morphological causative construction in both languages. This study is descriptive qualitative with a language typology approach. Sources of data came from oral and written data. The data analysis applied typology theory. The results point out that the morphological causative form in Indonesian is constructed with the suffix “-kan” only. Meanwhile, Rembang Javanese dialect is much greater; it can be formed with the prefix “n-“, infix “-en”, infix “-in”, the suffix “-I”, the suffix “-no”, and the suffix “–ke”. These affixes increase the number of valences (arguments).

This study explores the ways in which America: The Jesuit Review, one Catholic media in the United Sates represents the COVID-19 pandemic to the believers. Using Critical Discourse Analysis, the analyzed materials include 35 selected articles appeared from March to May 2020 publication. Stylistic devices, discursive practice, and ideological implications are the three main analyzing techniques. The analysis reveals that, first, rhetorical style predominates. Secondly, comforting rather than disabling is the mode used in the reporting. Lastly, Pope Francis as the head of the Catholic Church is the moral reference in his call for faith, hope, and compassion during this pandemic time.
