This study examines the role of social parameters in the choice of address forms used in kinship domain in Punjab, Pakistan. The study targeted 140 respondents in order to test the impact of social factors along with the regional differences in the choices of address forms in kinship domain. Statistical analyses are done by applying t-test for gender in relation to choices of address forms and ANOVA for age, income, education and social class. The study finds out that there is a strong connection of different social parameters not only with language use and practice but also in choices and use of address forms especially in kinship relationships. Moreover, it is highlighted that gender does not influence in the choices of address forms, even the participants belonging to young and middle categories show no significant difference with regard to the choices of address form despite the fact that all the factors and parameters exert influence on the choices of address forms. Hence address forms as being one of the major traits of language and society is affected by all the social factors around and regional differences are also most important as they give identity and ethnicity to the society.

Children’s literature may be one of the most difficult genres to write, if not the most difficult. The writer has to take into consideration his or her aims in writing the story while focusing on other literary elements such as the theme and the plot at the same time. Not only that, he or she has to put in mind what kind of reaction he wants from his or her reader – whether it be amusement, rejection or wholesome acceptance through learning. The purpose of this study is to identify the different speech acts commonly found in contemporary children’s short stories particularly those which have been awarded as Palanca winners and those from the book entitled Filipino Stories for Filipino children (An Anthology from the UP Integrated School Creative Writing Classes) by Eleanor Eme Hermosa. The study is anchored on John Searle’s (1969) Speech Act Theory. In the analysis, it is found that children’s literature provides a didactic role. Consistent with this function, the speech act structure has observed didactic role found to be primarily informational, assertive, and expressive in nature. In the stories, some of the values that the writers aimed to teach the readers are nationalism, love and pride for parents and siblings, and appreciation for education.

The expressive language skills of children with autism can be improved through teaching and learning. One of the factors supporting the success of teaching and learning process in improving the expressive language skills of children with autism is the selection of media which is in accordance with the characteristic of children with autism as target of learning. Children with autism are known to conceive information based on visual as their characteristic, so visual-based media will be more effectively in the learning process. This study uses the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) development model that aims to develop visual-based media that can accommodate the expressive language skills of children with autism. The media developed is in form book-shaped media that contains a combination of writing and image illustration. This study produces a decent picture book media based on material conformity with curriculum, grammar used, media display, and communication theory used.

This paper aims to examine the types of deixis, the meaning of deixis, and the position of deixis in novel entitled Night Whispers written by Judith McNaught. The authors applied theory of deixis from Levinson (1983) and theory of meaning by Chaer (2013). The analysis of this research uses distributional and referential identity method by Sudaryanto (1993). The results show that there are five types of deixis which is found in the novel with the most-found type is person deixis and the fewest-found type is social deixis. The meanings of the deixis are referred to the speaker herself which is named Sloan, Sloan’s friend named Sara, the time when Sloan uttered the utterance, the span when Sloan lived as police officer, Sloan’s father’s house, Apparition, the thought of Sloan of a group of girl, the thing Sloan wanted Paris to remember, and Sloan’s great-grandmother. The position of the deixis is as Noun, Pronoun, Adjective, and Adverb.

Line drawing is the draw which can be made in the board directly in the classroom or it can be prepared in certain papers before entering the classroom. The aim of this research was to investigate the use of line drawing has an effect or not in teaching English vocabulary at the seventh-grade students of junior high school. The research was conducted the first semester at the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 19 Mataram. The population in this research was the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 19 Mataram, in which the total number of the class were five classes and in this research just conducted in two classes. The sampling technique was cluster sampling. The total numbers of the students as sample were 62 students from two classes and each class consist of 31 students. During the period of time, the experimental group was treated by using line drawing and the control group was treated without using line drawing. The result of the research reveals that the mean score of the experimental group is 24.6 and the control group is 12.9. In the other hand, the standard deviation of the experimental group is 2.8 > 1.5 under the identification of t-test formula. It is found that the value of it is 5.62 > 0.05% and 0.01% at the degree of freedom infinitive which is 1.67 and 2.39. From this point, it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis is accepted or the line drawing has an effect in teaching English vocabulary at the seventh-grade students of SMPN 19 Mataram.

This study is about the effect of metacognitive learning strategy toward students’ achievement in listening comprehension an experimental study at the second-year students of MTs.AL-MADANIYAH Jempong Mataram in the academic year 2016-2017. The purpose of the study is to know whether there is an effect of metacognitive learning strategy or not toward students’ achievement in listening comprehension. The research method was quasi-experimental research with nonequivalent control group design. The population of the research was all of the second year Students of MTs.AL-MADANIYAH Jempong Mataram, conducted of two classes as a sample; Experimental group II A and Control group II B. II A was taught by using Metacognitive Learning Strategy while II B was taught without using Metacognitive Learning Strategy. The researcher gave the Listening test to gather the data. The formula that used to analyze the data was t-test. It is supposed to know the significant difference between students’ score in the experimental group and control group. Based on the computation of the t-test formula, it was found that the mean score of the experimental group was 17,6 and the mean score of the control group was 9,2. After analyzing the data, it was found that t-test was 5,626. The degree of freedom (df) was (Nx+Ny-2) = (25+25-2) =48. The degree of freedom from 38 students as the sample. The researcher got a score for confident level 0.5 or 95% and score 2.000, for confident level 0.1 or 99% is 2.660. It means that t-test was higher than t-table. After the data had been obtained; it was found that metacognitive learning strategy has a positive effect on teaching listening. It showed by the significant value of t-test >t-table. It means that Ha (alternative hypotheses) was accepted because t-test was higher than t-table. Based on the explanation, the researcher concludes that the effect of metacognitive learning strategy toward students achievement in listening comprehension at the second year students of MTs.AL- MADANIYAH Jempong Mataram has a positive effect.
