We present data from an elicited production task and from spontaneous production to investigate the development of clitic climbing by European Portuguese speaking children. We show that clitic climbing is acquired early, that children are sensitive to the presence of proclisis triggers that favour clitic climbing, and that there is development of the knowledge of the verbs that allow clitic climbing. Taking into account the developmental patterns that show an early preference for clitic climbing, we discuss the notion of complexity in child language.

In this paper we present the annotation of a corpus with named entities that are classified into semantic types and disambiguated by linking them to their corresponding entry in the Portuguese DBpedia. This corpus, QTLeap Corpus, is a multilingual collection of question and answer pairs from a chat-based helpdesk service for Information and Communication Technologies. The resulting annotated corpus is a gold-standard named entity annotated lexical resource that is useful in supporting the training and evaluation of named entity annotation and disambiguation tools for Portuguese.

In this paper we analyse antecedent and free consecutives. In consecutives with overt antecedents, we adopt the split degree hypothesis of Corver (1993, 1997a, b 2013), which has the advantage of separating determiner-like degree word and quantifier-like words. We also adopt Kennedy’s (1997, 1999) and Corver’s (2013) hypotheses that consecutive CPs are adjuncts that act as modifiers of a DegP, which form a unit with the degree/quantifying word at the level of LF. This analysis is extended to free consecutive clauses. We claim that in free consecutives the gradable expression is an elided constituent included in the sentence that contains the consecutive CP, whose content must be recovered by (an element of) the sentence to which it is paratactically related.
