The effectiveness of English language teaching in the classroom can be influenced by a multitude of factors, and among these, the teaching style employed by the teacher is a critical determinant that can significantly impact the success of the learning activities. This study aims to investigate the types of teaching strategies employed by English teachers in teaching English in vocational high schools, specifically under the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum launched by the Indonesian Ministry of Education. A qualitative research approach has been adopted, and data collection will be done through two main techniques: classroom observation and interviews. The results showed that both teachers implemented lecturing and small group discussions as their primary teaching strategies. The study also revealed the need for English lessons to be more specific to a topic that is closely related to students' majors, as highlighted by previous research. Moreover, the study revealed that different learning topics necessitate different teaching strategies, and using multiple strategies can enhance learning outcomes.

This research is focused on the modulation strategy in translating verb phrases in English cookbook into Indonesian. The data used in this study is taken from English cookbook entitled “The Essential Book of Sauces & Dressings” written by Murdoch Books and published by Periplus, Singapore and the translation into Indonesian entitled “Saus dan Dressing yang esensial” translated by Hadyana P. and published by Periplus, Indonesia. The main theory is adopted from the book “A Text book of Translation” by Newmark (1988) about the translation strategy. The methods that are used to collect data are documentation and observation. The results of this study not only found a number of independent modulation translation strategys, but there was also a combination of the modulation translation strategy with other strategys, including modulation and transposition; literal translation and modulation; modulation and reduction; transposition, modulation and calce; modulation, addition and transposition.

Individuals who respect normative ideals should communicate carefully, particularly on social media. Instagram, for example, is a popular social media platform that is now used by active users. The hate speech on Ragil Mahardika's social media accounts is a reflection of the behavior of internet users who purposefully post comments and opinions about Ragil Mahardika's life. This research will also look into the many sorts of hate speech. Descriptive qualitative research with supporting theory was employed as the research approach. According to Waldron (2010), hate speech is defined as a word that tries to hate, violate, or discriminate against groups based on race, color, religion, or national origin by offending, threatening, or insulting them. Related to the finding, there are three types of hate speech uttered by netizens on Ragil's Instagram; words, phrases and sentences. The three types of hate speech tend to dysphemia. Learning a new language is considered a difficult task because it needs more exercise in various skills. Media plays the important role in increasing the learners’ desire to learn by creating an atmosphere of fun. In this digital era, learning models utilize technology as learning media to provide wider access and opportunities for students in building their own knowledge. The availability of technology in education enables educators to plan and implement innovative and interactive learning models. This research is development research (R&D) which aims to develop the current media for teaching and learning the language in the digital era based on local wisdom for an online class to improve listening and writing skills in the information systems education program at ITB STIKOM Bali. Data was collected by means of documentation, interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The data collected was analyzed quantitatively to determine the average score, where the average score was categorized based on the evaluation table of reference criteria and qualitatively as a description of the score results obtained. The research procedure followed Luther’s model design proposed by Branch (2009) with some modifications. The steps were analyzing the students’ needs and curriculum analysis, designing the blueprint, and developing the first draft of the digital-based listening materials. This research developed digital literacy-based listening and writing materials based on the results of the needs analysis. The data from the needs analysis was analyzed quantitatively that obtained from the experts' judgment were analyzed through descriptive statistics. The digital literacy-based listening and writing materials were appropriate to be implemented as the listening and writing materials that could support the teaching and learning process for the Information Systems education program at ITB STIKOM Bali. This was supported by the result of the experts’ judgment who evaluate the appropriateness of the product in terms of content, language, presentation, and media aspect. The mean score in the experts’ judgment based on the materials evaluation in the aspect of content, language, and presentation was 3,8 which belonged to the very good category. The mean score based on the graphic evaluation was 3,8 which belonged to the very good category. This digital literacy-based listening and writing materials were packed into Google Form that consisted of 3 materials such as Word Processing, Asking and giving for information, and Globalization. Therefore, the written materials of the second draft and the final product of the digital-based listening materials are the same product.

During the epidemic era and because of COVID-19, especially when online learning was required and the only means to deliver instruction, learning management systems (LMS) have been frequently employed. Teachers are now required to use solutions developed since the epidemic, such as introducing blended learning with the use of an LMS, even in regular on-site classrooms. One of the learning management systems (LMSs) utilized by teachers and lecturers throughout the world is Canvas Instructure, a web-based and application-based LMS. This study looked into how students in a higher- education vocational setting perceived the use of Canvas Instructure as an extra learning platform in flipped ESP classes. To learn more about the usage of LMS in ESP classrooms, 108 students were given a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The study's conclusions show that students are generally in favor of using Canvas Instructure in flipped ESP classes. The vast majority of students agree that Canvas Instructure is user-friendly, helps them learn English more effectively, and makes it straightforward for them to access the course materials. Thus, using Canvas Instructure for other disciplines is highly recommended.

The English Proficiency Index (EPI) ranking released by Education First (EF) shows that Indonesian EPI falls under Vietnam in 2016 and commits a decreasing trend since 2011. Besides, other EFL-countries, e.g., Belgium and Argentina, could reach the 11th and 19th world ranking in the same year. These phenomena showed that Indonesian had problems in improving English language proficiency. Therefore, this paper is aimed at; (1) pointing out the factors affecting EPI from social-cultural, legal and educational perspectives, (2) factors affected by EPI, and, (3) recommendations for improving EPI based on the other EFL-countries with high EPI.
